Huh, it would be interesting to see her reaction to Nioh 1 or 2 in that case... which after just now googling, she *has* played. Awesome. Nioh 2 is easily my favorite soulslike game, even over the FromSoftware souls series. It just does so much to differentiate itself in both setting, atmosphere and gameplay that calling it a souls clone would be doing it a disservice. Truthfully, more than anything I like how it uses AI phantoms generated from other players' characters. So even if you're playing solo you can still get a little assistance.

My Dear Gab, Tengus in Japanese culture are highly learned Monks who haven't complete their refinement of souls. After they died, due to their learning and understanding of Buddism, they won't go hell, according to Japanese culture. However, due to their incomplete training for their souls, so to speak, they are not allowed to enter heaven. Thus, their spirit are caught between heaven and earth. For further learning or refinement, so to speak. Thus the darkened wings, supposedly signify angel wings, yet still yet unclean, needing soul refinement or cleansing to whiten, to my own understandings.

Man, this game. It really kind of hit me. It captures that sense of despair, frustration and fear so well. I was my grandmother's caregiver when i was very young, doing full-time uni and a part-time job and...it really does happen like this. The dementia, the loss of bodily functions. The lack of personality that the other sometimes has. Phew. I remember sometimes coming into the house then and feeling this huge surge of depression and exhaustion hit me in waves. Seeing this person, in that house, really brought some of that back. Ah well, times long ago. Haha. I'm lucky i didn't have to care for my grandmother in a house and setting like this!

The workplace gossip at healthcare facilities really takes me back to when I used to work as a nurse supervisor. The emotionless part of being a caregiver stems from having to turn off and not be the source of negative emotions. Stoicism as some would call it. But yeah, it's never a good thing when a caregiver doesn't show ANY emotion especially in the passing of a patient. And no matter how long you've done it, it'll never not stink when you clean someone up. You just get used to it enough to get things done. "Understaffed" is pretty much the mantra of most facilities.
