I’ve definitely been using platinums as a way to extended an experience I’ve really enjoyed lately, and I’m more than happy to walk away from a game I don’t enjoy. I think especially with age, you realise how valuable time is and throwing 40 hours into a game you don’t enjoy for the sake of a number on your account really looses its appeal! Hey Lewis. Been loving the daily uploads in June! Something I like to do to avoid burnout on a game is to split it in multiple parts. For example, for a 40 hour game, I’ll probably play 20 or 30 hours of it, then I’ll put it on the back burner for like 6 months to a year, and then I’ll come back and finish it when I feel like it. That’s how I like to play and finish platinums. But anyways, great video, and keep it up!

I think every trophy hunter can relate to this. I get burnt out from gaming/trophy hunting from time to time where I can't motivate myself to start a new game, especially if I had planned to play a bigger game. When this happens I usually take a short break from gaming or play games where I don't have to focus on a complex story like Rogue likes or Lego games.

I went from being a full-time trophy hunter to basically now a casual trophy Hunter myself. I started gaming when I was about 3 years old because I enjoyed gaming. Not because I enjoyed trophies. Totally hear you Lewis, I go through seasons where I really care about completion percentage and getting platinums. Just recently platinumed house of ashes, after 4 play throughs I was sick of it. Just take it easy my friend. The inspiration will return. It always does
@massivegat508711 ай бұрын
Burnout is so damn real man. I remember getting into trophies around 2016-2018; I was still in high school lol. I never went for super easy platinums but I’ve definitely fallen victim to a lot of unhealthy mindsets with it all. Avoiding games you know you can’t plat, avoiding games you KNOW you can plat but can’t get the clean 100% due to DLC trophies and whatnot. The exhaustion of having trophies in your mind on your initial playthrough and the absolute slog that is trying to cleanup trophies on games that you only played for fun previously. By the time you become bored of a game, are you really going to want to get those trophies? I don’t have much advice, that’s why I’m on this video lol. I do think some degree of separation is good though, as well as structure. For me personally I have a really hard time moving on from games. Games I know I want to plat but just don’t feel like it. Easy cleanup that would only take a few hours, but the motivation just isn’t there. I often feel like I’m not allowed to play a new game if I have an unfinished trophy list that I was working on before. Sometimes life just gets in the way and you lose momentum, it can be so hard to get the ball rolling again even when the last leg of the race is almost complete. I guess we should all just trust our intuition and prioritize our mental health. I have really severe ADHD; I think a lot of gamers do, and so trophy hunting was a way to hyperfixate on games I loved and get the most out of them. I’m an adult now and don’t have the time for 200-300 hour platinums like I’ve done before, but that’s okay. I might make an exception here and there, or I might just go where my interest takes me. Everyone is different when it comes to how we enjoy things, but the universal rule is just that, to enjoy them 💜

Yep exactly what I do, I take month breaks and slow down. Just play games I want to play that don't involve any real grinding. If I'm close to platinum or a trophy milestone then I ramp it up and pull out all stops. That's just a recipe for burnout and means you are neglecting other important areas of your lifestyle.

I try mixing up achievement/trophy hunting. I tend to focus on multiple easier games and have a back log of those. Switching between Xbox and PlayStation. So with the new PS Plus coming out I have been trophy hunting on my PS5. I find that setting small goals and milestones also helps motivate me to keep playing.
@shadowmaksim2 жыл бұрын
This is why I think taking breaks are important. Whenever I get a platinum, as a minimum, I take the rest of that day plus the entirety of the next day off as a mandatory break to refresh. Depending on how demanding the platinum was, sometimes I'll even take multiple days off. I find that it helps with getting over the post-project depression as well as being a form of pacing myself. As much as we love our hobbies, it's still possible to get burnt out on them if that's all you're doing for long enough. Sometimes, stepping aside to engage with other activities, or even just to do nothing, is a necessary step to continue liking what you like. It's like how that one food analogy goes. If you had nothing but your favorite meal every single day, you'll get sick of it eventually. Or even come to dislike it once you start forcing yourself to continue consuming it.

I've been having similar thoughts recently, trophy burnout is definitely a thing and we all go through it. I've actually backed up from my current platinum hunts some to just play games I have backlogged on other platforms. It is nice to take some time away from pulling up guides for collectibles and just play games for the sake of having a good time. I think that helps our sanity as trophy hunters, not every game has to be that 100% or platinum, as least not right away.

I’ve been gaming for 18 years, trophy hunting for 8 of those. 2015-2020 was the most I’ve been like “I’m only gonna play this game for trophies.” I’m harkening back to my childhood days of finding games with cool covers and just playing if it’s fun. I could’ve grinded out my kills for DBD by now but I spent the week watching my friend play Detroit because that was more fun, even though I’ve played it and watched it multiple times. Every time I start playing a game, I never think about the trophies, I just want to have fun. If I really enjoy it, I will get the trophies. Younger people now didn’t have a time in their life when trophies and achievements weren’t a thing, which isn’t necessarily a good or bad thing, but it means they have a different experience. I also think that, for you specifically, caring about leaderboards and comparing to others burnt you out quicker. I’ve always done it for myself, might show off to my friends who don’t care about trophies. But I’ve never been like “where am I on the leaderboard.” Especially because I’ve always known those leaderboards are bs 30 minute games with 7 stacks. “If it’s not fun, why bother?” -Reggie Fils-Aimé. It’s cool that Nintendo never implemented that type of system because anytime I play a game on one of their consoles I never even have the thought of doing specific things. I do what I want to do. Gaming should always be fun first and foremost, and if trophy hunting detracts from that then you should absolutely take a step back. I’ve never really been burnt out of trophy hunting, but definitely burnt out of doing a specific game (usually when there’s a long grind). But I’ve always looked at my trophies as what games i liked or didn’t like. I have probably 50 games that are less than 5% complete because I didn’t enjoy them. Plenty of games that are 70%+ that I didn’t find fun enough to finish. Games that I have the platinum but not the dlc, and games that I have the platinum and all the dlc. The trick for me is treating it as my personal experience and balancing it with games I wanna play most, games I play with friends, and games I’m doing trophies in (sometimes they overlap like deep rock galactic).

I'm in the same boat man. I got burnt out years ago and slowly eased back into it in the past few weeks. I got burnt out again real quick when I realized how grindy some can be (looking at you Final Fantasy 14 with your 4000+ hour plat). I'm about to get where I have even less limited time to game and I just need to spend that on completing my backlog instead of dedicating it to getting collectibles or replaying the same game on multiple difficulties (looking at you Catherine Full Body). I have so many close plats I'm just sitting on, but don't want to do the extra push to get them (Final Fantasy 12, Dark Souls 2, Elden Ring, Shadow Warrior 3, and both Spider-Man games). I love these games, but I spent all of the time I want to spend in them. If we had more games like Syphon Filter where you can earn the plat naturally and they just ask you to do small things within certain levels, then I'd never get burnt out.

Instead, I’m taking my time enjoying the experience of exploring, playing pvp, helping my boys with difficult bosses, etc. If platinum hunting goes from being enjoyable to feeling like a job, that defeats the purpose of gaming in the first place.

I understand where you’re coming from. I’m tired of trophies dictating the way i play games. I just got around to Resident Evil 7, a game I’ve been looking forward to playing for a long time and i love the game but the trophy list is asking me to play the game in a way i would never play this game and it’s souring my experience with a game that I otherwise love. Having to replay story/dlc over and over especially when the hard mode is so challenging is just draining. The main game is great even the platinum is reasonable but the I am not having a good time with this dlc which makes up half the completion percentage

I think the healthiest way to view trophies is to just play the games you want without seeing in guide, and only if you love the game you go for the platinum if its feasable. Don't let the completion rate dictate your life, its just a number after all.

I feel you. I got to the point where I've grown bored of trophy hunting to the point I'm not really enjoying the game because I'm to focused on the trophy hunting I've not been taking the time to appreciate the game. So yeah I'm taking a break for a few months and going back to enjoying the games. Even the one's I've already platinumed I've gone back to. Just watched the video mate and 100% agree that burnout can easily happen I’ve had a few spells of it myself especially with my work schedule. And yup been there with game selection with working out hours to plat and it really ends up limiting what games I can play/dedicate time to. A break is always good and at the end of the day it’s the enjoyment of what you decide to play that is the most important thing, the plat is just a nice bonus

Yes I had a similar experience in 2018 or 19. Most people hate collectibles or Multiplayer Trophies. I personally have no problems at all with multiplayer trophies & collectibles are really a 50/50 situation, it just depends how many there are. I always hated the most when you have to do multiple play trough’s to earn the platinum no matter how good the game is. Since my little burnout I seriously never platinumed a game again that requires multiple play troughs. I’m kinda healed from it. And if I’m completely honest, I’m actually a little bit jealous about people who gives 0 fuck about trophies.

You know when you grind so much you can feel it in when you go to bed. People trying to up there completion fast I think get the most burnout, because you tend to try to rush the platinums. I try to leap frog my games a bit but it never lasts long. I just end up going tunnel vision to "get it over with." I try to watch movies and read to balance it out a bit. I think as well to just go for some cheap easy platinums once in a while can help for completion too, like a booster.

Burnout has been getting to me to from looking at shows I'm missing out on & different experiences on other consoles. So I'm trying to balance between them & honestly I feel much better doing that approach. Though recently completing Ape Escape enlightened me with why I enjoying platinuming games, for the unique experiences you won't get on other formats unless you play on a Playstation console. Definitely feel yea about balancing between your work for playtime as well, with an uneven work schedule throws off all the extra time putting in stuff towards earning more completions for me as much as I used to. Though passion projects I'm having trouble trying to find a partner for Halo 1 on Steam to complete its achievements & going to look for someone to play Shredder's Revenge with since I'm kind of missing the old arcade games. Still got to research more like how to make intro & outro videos to add life to my channel on the side.

I’m going through burnout right now, I used platinum 4-5 big games a month. Now I platnuim one every month or two. I used to never start a new game unless I platnuim the last one. I’ve stopped enjoying the trophy grind. Mainly because I’m sick of collectibles and missable trophies and following guides. Especially now since I’m starting university I just want to play a fun game and platnuim something without a guide. I’m starting to Really have fun now unlike before 😅😅

When I get to burnout point happens 2 or 3 times a year. I turn to a game I just really want to play regardless of trophies. That is usually a looter shooter like Destiny or Division. Elden ring is perfect for you just play it, think about it later. Absolutely amazing you will quickly forget about trophies and get immersed into the game. I couldn't put it down for a month, haven't been that drawn into a game since Skyrim first came out.

I think PUBG was the final straw for me. I’ve got some great plats, but ultimately, I want to play the games I want to play, so I’ve become a lot more selective about the games I’m willing to start since I care more about having fun now than I do about having UR trophies. I'm 50 this year and I look like a 80 year old man. XD But I can understand your feelings towards trophies now. I have started a new account and only platinum games which I like. I've played through a bunch of accounts and realized that I was just playing tons of cashgrub games just for the trophies. My last account is at 320 and I downloaded My Name Is Mayo 3 and then thought... "You know what? NO. I am getting tired of it all." The last platinum I will earn on that account is the one for FFXIV PS4's list, and then that will be it. I'll stop at 330 platinums on that account and abandon it for my new account, which has 100% trophies and I just platinumed my 10th game. We are no longer going for the 238 mark, not even the 100 mark in our lifetimes. Also, I've got other ways to waste time, like earning a Living Pokedex in Pokemon Violet when that game comes out. ;)

I'm not sure why the hour commitment is so daunting for most. If i enjoy a game blind then i go for the platinum, which often involves extra playthroughs. my stats are like 2/3 games are 80-100% and 1/3 are 0-20%. Some of my favorite games and favorite plats are 150+ hour games. Just play games that interest you and the desire for platinum will come. I find buying Dlc or committing to online grinds and boosting ridiculous but we all can't be perfect lol.
