You mentioned that you would have liked music in some of the more emotional scenes of this game but I actually think the creators chose not to add music to make it feel more real. There's no music accompanying sad moments in real life, there's nothing to dull or change the pain, there's just silence. And I think that's what the creators are trying to convey here. The banality of each person's pain, how life goes on even when one thinks it won't, that our life doesn't have Hollywood like moments and no matter how much we're hurting, there is no soundtrack to life. There's only background noises like there always are. I think it makes the game that much more powerful.

I'm so glad everyone in the comments told you to play this again to unlock this ending. I cannot believe there was SO MUCH totally different content to get into! This game is so layered and deep and beautiful and I am right there with you on the ugly sobbing. I think, though, that while it's clear Mark and Nicole are soulmates, I think they are soulmates in that they had to come together to help each other move forward. It's likely that neither of them would have confronted the darkest parts of themselves without meeting each other; the first run of the game made that much clear, and while so much of the subsequent playthroughs are about Mark trying to save Cath, the thing that holds true in all of them is that Nicole and Mark help each other move on. Of course, the final confrontation with Butterfly!Jake and Butterfly!Mom seems to be a big part of what helped to reset everything, but it was still part of that process of their continued meeting, their being together. That said, I really hope they don't hold memories of those multitudes, but based on Marks' reaction when he returned and was so desperate to save Cath, and what he said to her makes me wonder if he actually forgot anything? Maybe over time those memories fade and that's why in the cafe they're able to sit at these tables beside each other without seeming affected? It just feels like it would be so painful to hold all those memories - the lifetimes of loving someone (to returning over and over and over to your teenage self having these memories of once having been MARRIED to someone?!), the multiple times he's lost Cath, the lifetimes where Ridel was or wasn't there, the lifetimes where things became progressively worse. It took such a toll on him that I just wish they didn't hold those memories, or that they began to fade away with time like a vivid dream that dissipates the longer you're awake, if only so they could have that peace, to live their lives. I think there's a sort of poetry in them being these soulmates, pulled together by these important forces in their lives, in order to finally find the footing to move forward in their lives, to be PROACTIVE in their lives - it wasn't just that neither of them were listening or paying attention, but it was a lack of action, too - and that it allowed them to live their lives wholly as themselves, their true selves. I mean, don't get me wrong, I feel like it's so sad, too, and that's part of what's so poetic - to be so incredibly important to each other, but for that time to be so shortlived. But seeing their futures - the both of them growing older, Nicole and Kate making up, Nicole returning to the piano and Kate trying her hand at the guitar; Mark, Cath, and Ridel all still close together in their future this time unlike that first play through - I think makes up for the loss. In a way, there's a trade off, but the result was that both of them went on to LIVE their lives. To be active, present players in their lives, to make effort and to move forward. I feel so attached to these characters over this 15 hour period, but for me it was Cath, too. I don't think I could have taken it if the true, canon ending was Cath's death, especially when it was so clear in the first playthrough that she didn't mean to die, that she was really trying to get to Mark and didn't look/see the truck coming. I NEEDED her to have a happy ending, to open up to her friends, and to have a future where she's alive and safe and smiling and ;~; I guess I needed the true canon ending to be Mark, Cath, and Ridel to be the trio they were supposed to be, before it all fell apart in the first playthrough; MCR forever. Also is it just me or, because of the bandage on her nose, doesn't Cath resemble a little duck? Anyway this is an essay dump of so many feelings because I just absolutely loved this story so much and it's going to stick with me for a long, long time.

"Tadhana" means fate or destiny. Their fates were never meant to meet, only pulled to entanglement by two butteflies aiming to give a better future for the two of them, an action that's never to happen and shouldn't happen or else it will lead to the universe's destruction. They got lifetimes of entanglement but ridden with persisting and worsening chaos. And only throughout these lifetimes did they learn of their "phenomenon", its roots, and the tragic solution. As everything's resolved and the universe gets back to normal, their lives went better as the butteflies hoped, but so did their fates returned to how it was: never meeting. Now there they were at Destiny's Cafe, their fates getting the closest they can get to meeting. It was the butterflies' last effort to recognize the special bond that what once was, but only this time with no entanglement, no realities colliding, and no universes destructing. The rest is up to imagination. Perhaps their fates were really just meant to entangle naturally without anyone's intervention (and i hope so) albeit at another time forward. Until then.

From how I interpret the ending, they were always meant to end up together. It's just this time, the butterflies let things develop naturally, so Mark and Nicole don't end up together until they overcame their traumas and found their own happiness first.

Here is my take on the overall lore of the game: The two butterflies kept tapping into the multiverse, forcibly altering mark and nicoles fates and effectively entangling them. Each time they meet, the universe they're in collapses, then the butterflies transition into a new one if they arent satisfied. Each time they make a transition, the situation in the world they transition to worsen. This means more disasters, people disappearances, and deja vus, until the last point where it's just darkness and this is all due to the collapse that happened in the universes they left, affecting all neighboring universes that there is and that would come to be. The only anomaly that attempts to make a balance is the people disappearances to cancel out the paradoxes formed specifically from the original universe (each time they disappear, they have a glimpse of the original universe, then reappear either in the universe they're in or a different one). All of the timelines have always been from the viewpoint of the butterflies in hopes that nicole/mark live a better life. The collapses in the first playthrough doesn't happen because it's the very first instance (with memories from the original universe). There was no entanglement yet until the moment that they had clear memories of their other lifetimes by the second transition. When the butterflies realize that some things really just don't change and they're just in a loop, they let go and accept the reality of the original universe they were in. A universe where mark and nicole weren't supposed to meet, a universe where jake and marks mom didn't have control of. It's really up to fate if they are to meet again. If they do meet, there at least wont be universes collapsing since they arent entangled and no outside force like the butterflies are in control. I just didn't understand why jake chose mark, and mark's mom chose nicole to entangle with each other. The only connection they had was when marks mom was watching nicole at the recital. Is this because their fate/situation is so close to each other? A pattern that kept popping up so they just decided to go with it till the end? Or are they really just fated despite being entangled by the butterflies? I don't know and my head hurts.

I don't know if this was intended, but this just occurred to me. When you see Jessica before she goes missing in all the timelines she is always twirling her hair with her finger, and for the true ending, the girl Mark is on a date with in the cafe is twirling her hair with her finger just like Jessica does. It's interesting to think that Mark was possibly going on a date with Jessica who was introverted and a loner throughout the story so you rarely learn anything about her the entire time.

This game absolutely had me reflecting on life. When I was a kid, I had so many friends. Some come and go, but 4 of my friends stuck up. We hung out almost every single day, Went to karaoke, mall, shopping, had our ups and downs, etc. But it always doesnt come our way, 3 of my friends had to move houses, transfer schools, 2 of them moved to USA, Then, I found this son of a game. After i finished it, all of it... I absolutely was sobbing, No like- Uncontrollable crying. It made me rethink every single choices ive made for the past. It actually broke me. Cathy is also almost one of my friends I've had and but in here, its a he. I neglected him and i mean yeah, we got back on good terms and went back to being good friends but theres still a huge part of me that makes me feel guilty, angry at myself, regretfulness. From parents to friends and to the real reality, it seems that we've been going through the same on every characters. One of you might relate to Cathy, one of you might relate to Ridel, and One of you might relate to Mark. And I hope you guys have great lives. Prosperous futures, bright lives. And theres one thing that the game taught me, its to cherish everything whats given to you and be grateful that you had them/have.

I finished the first playthrough in one sitting but this... this took me a whole month. Couldn't really help it, paused and cried for so much of it. Had to rewatch some parts over and over again through the tears lol. I hope this game gets the recognition it deserves. It's truly a work of art.

First, that last scene is such a beautiful metaphor of the theory, that your soulmate can be pretty much anywhere in the world, and you never know where you're going to be found. It's hopeful to keep going and just bump into them eventually. Secondly, did anyone notice how the clock in the black screen after Nicole's and Mark's last good bye, ( 5:56:13 ) started madly turning back?!?!??!!? It was literally so cool, and showed how they both literally went back in time into the "true" universe Thanks to everybody who made this game. It really hit hard for me, because I'm experiencing one of the loneliest and unstable times of my life. It really healed something in me❣️

They accept it for good sake And it’s good they didn’t meet here ,because it’s open for maybe they meet but not now,I mean if u sad don’t worry they maybe meet in future! @TheChildOfDarkness Nah, I just didn't like her. Her design was alright. She was a decent character, but when I saw the rain scene between Cath and Mark, it set it in stone for me. At that moment, I thought Cath was the right one for Mark. Again, during the firework scene before Andrew showed up, it was such a touching moment that I wanted what I had laid out in my head as "cannon" to be real. To me, it felt like Nicole got in the way of that, over and over again. Like during the fair, Cath was sad seeing Mark and Nicole together. Yes, she jokes about it during fireworks, but you can see that hidden pain in her eyes. I know in the end it was because she was being left behind, but to me, it felt different. But I can't change the story. It is what it is. I've tried my best to space out my thoughts here to the best of my ability. It's hard to explain cause you aren't inside my head. But I hope it made enough sense.

Man i love this game 😢 i feel sad and keep hopping he will just see nicole eyes at the end. But at the same time I'm very happy about cathy, she's the best character in the game. She suffered so much and 99% of her scenes is her being cheerful beside us, i really think cathy deserve so much of the world. Knowing her always saying "everything is fine", "I'm okay" while always having her usual bright smile broke me really hard.

There are so many layers to this story - one of the best ever story games in my book. Gave me some Spiritfarer vibes. Now I suddenly want to reach out to some of the friends I never make time to catch up with. If it has the power to do that, this game has served a purpose. And... ... I think the final scene can be best explained using actual physics referenced (fictionally) in the game! A quantum mechanical system exists in all possible states simultaneously - until it is observed, collapsing the wave function into a single state. Not letting us see what transpires in the cafe leads to the best possible outcome - Mark and Nicole simultaneously are able to be together, while also not ending the world. Of course, in real life, quantum mechanics applies to individual particles, but it's a neat allegory. In a very allegorical game.

I kind of like that they made it so Nicole and Mark don't really look for one another and I think it's a nice finish that they don't end up finding each other as I feel like that solidifies the fact that they had completely let go. They're not forcing things like they were doing for the 15 hours of playthrough. I think it signifies how they're really living their truth now. but to be frank, I also wouldn't liked it if they did find each other again at the end...

So, the multiverse in this game is real. They collide with each other, causing the alternate mark to experience memories that he never originally had, but from another multiverse. 🤔 Edit: So we know that Mark had actually vanished also, as we see after the scene where a black butterfly lands on his hand at one scene. Previously Nicole mentioned something about memory, and mark asked if that’s the key to bringing his friends back. Now that he’s vanished from the universe he was in to a different one, he still has his previous memories, as seen with Sofia, Nicole.. etc. Btw im at the 3 hour mark so I might be correct idk 🤷‍♂️

The butterflies in all endings are not only some kind of sign about entanglement or some multiverse thing (don't know how to describe it), but it also has another, more deeper meaning that kind of makes sense to most of the plotline. Being Filipino myself, my family used to believe a superstition that butterflies were a manifestation of dead relatives and loved ones. This also applies to the game's story, where Jake and Mrs. Borja were usually portrayed as butterflies. Pretty cool and fascinating detail I'd say

My idea of an ending would be that Mark's and Nicole's dates don't really work out and at some point Mark starts to play piano as a hobby since he has this odd feeling of deja vu he starts to remember that his mother played a certain song so he tries to perfect it but he fails since he doesn't know the second part. After some time he shows up at some shows and a few recidels (I don't know how to spell that word) to play the piano, but one day he plays the piece he heard his mother play and publicly asks if anyone knows the second part. Eventually Nicole finds out about Mark and reaches out to him, they start talking but both have the strange but strong feeling that they somehow know each other already. Much later they get together and it's basically what happened at the end of playthrough 1. And idk maybe they have kids who could be the protagonist for a continuation of "Until then" that wouldn't be a real sequel but still similar to it... And here is a question to Playchroma studios and all other people who contributed to this wonderful game (if somehow a miracle happens and a dev sees this) How did you manage to make a game that makes it clear that the two main characters are Soulmates and stronger if they do things together, through almost 11 hours and only have them Kiss once and it's only a little smooch on Prom? (If anyone even sees this question please don't take it seriously since the game's message is WAY more than that!) Good night!

A Charm quark is a type of subatomic particle that forms the basis of atoms and our universe. "No, I find it strange." Strange quarks are another of the types of subatomic particles also essential to the existence of atoms and our universe.. "Turning his date down" - reference to subatomic particles again, this time Down quarks, another subatomic particle that forms the foundations of physics and the world as we know it. "I feel a strong force" referring to one of the four forces that exist in our world: the strong nuclear force that holds atoms together. 'Gluons' - another elementary particle. Hope someone found this brief amusing! Clearly, Louise's family are all particle physicists LOL

Idk why but after Omori, I can't cry like I used to when playing these types of games. Like a lifetime of tears was flowed after months of not being able to keep it together everytime I get reminded of something about Omori. one things for sure they dont remember anything. and i think this is a different timeline or alternate universe . this is what i realize when they save cathy. and i thought that this is the same "mark" we seeing from that entire game who lost cathy but another mark on the alternate universe. So the question is what happen to the "Mark" & "Nicole" we know?. i believe mark and nicole got absorb or transfer to that universe but they lost all of their memories together that's why they say no more turning back. its sad to think that they lost their memories but i think "Fate" is still doing something for them atleast and I believe they will come back together again cause they are what you call "Soul Mate". And man this game is soo good the plot and the twist. and the good ending, True ending i mean i loved it.

I felt betrayed and broken. After seing Nicole and Mark being soulsmates during 100 lifetimes, that last scene felt like they were cheating on each other by trying to date someone else. It was just painful to watch. This was my first impression when I saw the ending, Now I'm just convincing myself really hard that their date was shitty, and that they get together afterwards. I'm just reading comments sharing the same belief to cure my depression... Regardless, I really enjoyed playing that game 9.5/10. This game could have been a sweet masterpiece, but now depression will just hit me like a truck everytime I remember it...

1:11:19 nope bro! Multiverse is not reasonable. There are 4 interpretations of Quantum Mechanics and the most common one is called Copenhagen Interpretation isn't compatible with multiverse. It can't explain why to someone lacking prior knowledge. The 2nd most popular theory is indeed "many worlds theory" but it's not the general consensus. Secondly, even if it's real, we cannot verify it... ever. They multiple universes would never interact

I interpreted the ending as they were never meant to be together, they were never soulmates, but the 2 butterfly spirits tried to keep forcing a timeline where they were together to fix them and it kept making everything worse. BUT because they were able to live 100 timelines, they learned and grew, and in the final timeline they were able to do what they needed to to actually have good lives. Mark finally paid proper attention to Cathy and committed to their friendship, and Nicole finally properly patched things up with Kate, and in the end that was what was needed to make a happy life for them all
