I'm not even excited for GTA VI, and I've been waiting for that game for 10+ years Cities skylines 2 and Kerbal space program 2 were the only games I was looking forward to, and they are both a horrible mess that's not worth your money or time.

To be frank, I'm pretty sure the decrease in mid-update patches is specifically in order to speed up feature update frequency, something people have been screaming at them about, like here. They got all the quick and easy fixes out of the way so going for the next ones first would mean every update takes as long as For Science. If they're holding off for this long, I think it must mean that they're focusing their bug fixing on the dev build, which would mean the colony update shouldn't send the stability of the game back into the dumpster. Now that we've had a look at their development since the game released, how early access is going to go is pretty much factually known, so no more surprises. The road map is going to at minimum take 5 years to complete, with stability and performance increases steadily keeping pace with complexity, just barely balancing.

I have 190 hours in the game. So far after the latest update, it has been stable so far. I do run into the odd bug occasionally, but nothing a quickload cant fix, most of my issues come from long term missions that require a lot of saving and loading (sometimes antennas and solar panels would not work as expected) but a restart usually fixed the issue. There is an update coming in the next few weeks, so maybe wait for that if you still have reservations. I would at least recommend it if its on sale if you dont want to pay full price.

When a project we like goes belly up, sooner or later "spiritual successors" are bound to come, maybe that's what it takes for modders to come up with better solutions for KSP 1 than even KSP 2 would arguably provide us, who knows when, if at all. And even if they don't, the ideas of colonies and everything else is already in everyone's minds, we'll still get to play with some even more polished version of all of that... eventually... perhaps even earlier than the current KSP 2 team would be able to provide! You can't just ditch all that code assuming you'll figure out everything again. For example, reentry heat is actually not that trivial. The physics about that are a nightmare, so you have to make your own game friendly formula that looks realistic enough. Now KSP2 no only does not have that, I would said is worse in any metric to KSP1.

When a game is released on Early Access, it has this little tag above the Buy button that says, "Note: This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development." So, complaining about an Early Access game being incomplete feels really pointless to me. Yes, it sucks that it's not further along than we'd want it to be, but it's being developed. It's in Early Access, and they don't owe you anything. If they only charged $10 or $20, that's all they get from you forever. You don't get charged again when the game goes to a full release. I personally wouldn't pay full price for Early Access as it is now, but, again, complaining about the state of a game and its price when it's in Early Access feels pointless. As for the No Man's Sky equivalence, you said it didn't even take a few months for the game to get to the state its in now, but within the first 2 years, they'd only put out 3 updates. It's also important to note that No Man's Sky was a HUGE deal being what it was when it was released, because they promised a shitload of stuff and then, as you said, it still isn't really what was promised 8 years later. A much better game maybe, but not what was promised. And that was a full release. You get no promises with Early Access. So stop being salty about something as open and honest as Early Access is and have some fun playing KSP 1, since that's clearly what you want to do.

@DragongeekAndCo5 ай бұрын
I generally agree that "Early Access" is a gamble in the same way that, for example, supporting a Kickstarter project might be. That said, I think the situation is a bit different there. The team/company behind KSP / KSP2 isn't some small two-man indie operation, they're an actual company with a bunch of actual employees and money, and them using the Early Access program feels a bit disingenuous. Additionally, while Steam does have the "Early Access Disclaimer", if you look at the marketing and publicity material that has been generated about KSP2, they sure are trying to sell it quite hard. Their videos are all like "available now!" and celebrating a 1 year anniversary isn't really something you should do if you haven't actually released a full game. They were, also very deliberately, feeding the hype train up to the release, which again, something they shouldn't have done for EA. Personally, I don't think that EA games should do any advertising at all--the purpose of EA is to give die-hard community fans a closer connection to the developers and provide community feedback, something that can be done with a very small fanbase, not to drum up sales for an incomplete product.
