Good news, they exited Chapter 11 in September, so they are currently not in danger. It does look like endless shrimp might not be something they do anymore though.
@afriend599414 күн бұрын
Filing for chapter 11 is essentially just renegotiating your debt that's become unmanageable. The only way the company would have been in "danger" of actually going away is if they filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy. Saying that, part of the chapter 11 plan would generally be closing unprofitable locations during the process.
@jaybling668714 күн бұрын
@@afriend5994 That's pretty much what happened. They closed the location that was closest to me when I was living in NJ, but the location that's closest to me while living in Colorado is still open.
@firefly4f414 күн бұрын
The endless shrimp was NOT the reason they started having problems. Predatory investors came in, bought the company, and then sold the land the buildings were on so that all the locations were renting instead of owning. I'm simplifying a bit, but that's the gist of it. Look for the video, "Bankrupt - Red Lobster" by Bright Sun Films for a better description.
@jlaw13198514 күн бұрын
@ no, it wasn’t how they started having problems. It also was unfortunately not financially working for them. It’d be nice if it was.
@jlaw13198514 күн бұрын
@@afriend5994 as long as Chapter 11 is successful, it’s generally less dangerous. But a company that files for chapter 11 can still be in a lot of trouble, and might need to file Chapter 7 if they can’t agree on a way out of it.

@EJetson2214 күн бұрын
Because his criticism is based on expectations. When you go to a fine dining restaurant, you expect everything to be terrific. When you go to Red Lobster, you expect to get decent quality seafood and if you order a steak, you expect just what Guga said. It tastes like a steak cooked by a seafood restaurant. Red Lobster is decent quality seafood at a reasonable price. If you live in the middle of the country, 1000 miles from any ocean, Red Lobster is a great place to get your seafood fix.

Guga my friend, I have worked at red lobster for a decade all the way up to management and I will say your review is quite accurate The biscuits are great but a few things to try next time. We have a pina colada sauce (for the coco shrimp) that’s great to dip in or even the fan favorite honey 😮 The sweet chili sauce on the dragon shrimp has been around forever, they just keep using the sauce for different entrees and appetizers but the actual sauce is killer! The lobster dip is also really good, is in the kitchen like to mix the pico inside the dip also for a little acid boost! Clam chowder is a classic and the lobster bisque is also making a come back! We recently switched steak dealers and I do agree, the quality has tanks from the feedback I get from tables. I will suggest forming over the extra money for a NY strip or a filet if you go the steak route! Lobster topped baked potato is good but try it on the mashed potatoes next time, easier to manage the lobster bur Blanc! The brussel sprouts are actually deep fried to get crispy and topped with a soy ginger glaze, another fan favorite!! I’m glad it was a pleasurable visit for you, and as of now there company has been bought out by an investment company who are already taking steps to expand the brand!

Hey Guga! I know the chances of you seeing this are low but if you do I have a suggestion for an experiment that you could do. See I have a balsamic chicken recipe that I love to make, basically it’s chicken (I always use breast cause it retains the flavor the best out of any cut) marinated in balsamic vinaigrette (salad dressing) and 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar per chicken breast for 24 hours then is boiled in the mixture and seared in a pan or on a grill. And while it’s delicious my problem with it is that it doesn’t matter how many different ways I try to tenderize the chicken it always comes out tough, and not very juicy. I’d like to know what could be done to make the chicken more tender without effecting the flavor of the balsamic too much and I’d love to see an experiment video about it!
@darrencarter981212 күн бұрын
Your problem is that vinegar denatures proteins. That changes the texture of the chicken. With breasts having a low fat content, they get rubbery. The acid in the vinegar is effectively cooking the chicken and it end up rubbery like it was microwaved. There really isn’t a work-around. I would recommend grilling the chicken, and serving it with a balsamic reduction as a sauce. Alternatively, figure out exactly what flavor you like in the marinade, and season yoghurt or buttermilk to use as a marinade. Then serve it grilled with the balsamic reduction sauce. Good luck!
@DuskShadow23510 күн бұрын
@ I find that I (and a lot of people I’ve shared this recipe with) really enjoy the kinda acidic-sweet flavor in the vinaigrette, so if you know of something that won’t take away from that I’d love to know so I can try it
@darrencarter98128 күн бұрын
@@DuskShadow235 try what suggested with the buttermilk and add ginger powder and fenugreek. Then finish the chicken with the vinaigrette reduction… raspberries would be a nice addition to the reduction, but either way… it won’t be exactly the same but you’ll still add a sweet and sour component with ginger and fenugreek, and the buttermilk marinade will kick it up a notch.

I like Red Lobster but I think I've only eaten there maybe 4 or 5 times my entire life (44). I won't miss it.

Red lobster is like a good singer that passes away too early. Nobody cared about it when it was there but when they’re gone all of a sudden they were the greatest ever what a tragedy how could this happen 😩

Hey Guga!..found your channel by chance couple days ago(the Florence trip) and I right way subscribed. I'm originally from Brazil(Santos - S.P.) and I clearly remember the first time I went to Red Lobster . I had arrived in America(NYC) in April 1988 and in July some friends took me to the Red Lobster on Queens Blvd, in Queens. I was only 19 years of age...wow, it was so good!.. The last 7 months I'm in North Dakota(Dickinson) and it's dead here...no wonder they all it "The BadLand"..Anyways, ❤ your channel !

The new CEO did an interview about the future of the restaurant. He seems very intelligent and down to earth. The way he spoke gave me hope for this once dying franchise ❤

Part of Red Lobster going under has also been chain management by peopling buying into it and opening them in various locations too while still trying to bring quality. I don't think people understand that chain restaurants, fast food, and convenient stores are from indiviuals who have bought into it and opened that. To them: it IS their small business. Since Covid, it's hit everyone really, really hard. Supply issues, lack of staff, all of it. I hope Red Lobster sustains because then it just means one more thing gone for us. Guga: you the man trying to keep them going. ❤

You are a warrior sir - single handedly trying to save a restaurant chain!

Also as someone who has cooked in restaurants you can add like different ingredients and make it your own at home. Like a little extra good Smoked Cheddar, Bacon, and Jalapenos...

I also worked at RL during it's heyday, for 5 years. All the seafood and steaks are frozen. The only exception was the fresh fish menu and the lobsters alive in the tank. EVERYTHING is slathered in the same "scampi butter" right down to the biscuits. You can recreate pretty much all of it at home with frozen seafood from the grocery store and salty garlic butter.

I don’t ever crave red lobster but after watching this video I’m definitely stopping by this weekend to give it a try! If it’s Guga approved it must be good! 👍

I'm 65 and as a kid my family would go to RL on special occasions, I still do that today! Endless shrimp was my thing so I'm pretty sad about it ending. I'm not a real big eater so 7 orders was my personal record (two different styles at each order).
