Here's my broccoli sprouts story: I'm almost 70 and started growing them similarly to EdSilvia1 below in May 2022 after my prostate cancer diagnosis and after watching Rhonda Patrick's videos. My PSA readings ranged from 4.7 to 7.1 in the years prior to the confirmed (biopsy and MRI) diagnosis. I began consuming protein shakes in May almost every day including significant portions of fresh and frozen broccoli sprouts after a morning gym session. My wife and I continued our research on my treatment options over the summer and I had my PSA tested in October just prior to starting a combination of hormone deprivation and eventual radiation therapy. This reading came in prior to starting the cancer therapy - after 6 months of consistently consuming broccoli sprouts, my PSA came in at 4.1. This was the lowest PSA reading I had in probably 4 years! I continue to consume broccoli sprouts today after recently completing radiation treatment.

Here's a dressing recipe for sprouts. Also good for blood pressure and diabetes: tablespoon of low sodium soy sauce, tablespoon of white vinegar, roughly tablespoon of tahini (like peanut butter but made from sesame seeds). Mix these three ingredients with a whisk until smooth. Then mix in your sprouts and any other veggies you like. Set in fridge for about an hour to chill, but can be eaten at room temp as well. Super good!

Here are some considerations for above options::::: 1) Eating raw: Raw broccoli sprouts are a convenient and quick way to consume them. Raw broccoli sprouts contain a high level of myrosinase, an enzyme that helps activate the beneficial compound sulforaphane. Myrosinase is sensitive to heat and can be destroyed by cooking, so consuming raw broccoli sprouts ensures that the myrosinase is still active and can help maximize the production of sulforaphane in the body. 2) Lightly cooked: While cooking can destroy some of the myrosinase in broccoli sprouts, lightly cooking them can still preserve some of their health benefits. For example, lightly steaming or stir-frying broccoli sprouts can soften them and make them easier to digest. Cooking broccoli sprouts also increases the bioavailability of other nutrients, such as vitamin C and beta-carotene. 3) Blended: Blending broccoli sprouts into a smoothie or juice can be a convenient and tasty way to consume them. Blending can help break down the tough fibers in the sprouts, making them easier to digest and absorb. However, blending may also destroy some of the myrosinase, so it's important to consume the blended mixture soon after preparation to maximize its health benefits. In summary, eating raw broccoli sprouts can help maximize the production of sulforaphane, while lightly cooking them can still preserve some of their health benefits. Blending broccoli sprouts can be a convenient and tasty way to consume them, but may destroy some of the myrosinase.

@TakaluKevin
@TakaluKevin Жыл бұрын
@@TheScienceofSelfCare .. Seems most people go for blending, thinking it is most beneficial. This is largely true but only if consumed quickly, like you do. Also, some people kinda 'over blend' which increase sprouts exposure to oxygen. This too can cause the nutrients to oxidize and lose their potency. I too think, eating raw is The Best.. I've been off medication.. touch wood.

@davidchapa4611

Broccoli sprouts are healthy because of their polyphenol content. Therefore, you don't want to mix them with foods high in polyphenol oxidase. All fruits have it but avocado, banana, apples, and pears are particularly high. It is what makes them brown. In a recent study, mixing banana in a berry smoothy greatly reduced polyphenol content in the blood due to low absorption. It binds with or destroys the polyphenols during digestion. In a 2005 study they tested pears, banana, and avocado and they all destroyed polyphenols but avocado was the worst. In this study they were trying to destroy polyphenols to increase iron absorption for vegetarians (polyphenols bind iron during digestion) so they considered avocado the best. Some vegetables are also a problem like collard greens, beats, and I think Swiss chard. It is hard to research polyphenol oxidase content in food. If you're eating high polyphenol foods for their polyphenol content you should isolate them from fruit and some vegetables. This includes sprouts, berries, extra virgin olive oil, cacao, tea, coffee, spices, etc. If you mix sprouts with avocado you can decrease the polyphenol content nearly 90%. You can still eat all these foods. You just have to eat them separately. And don't eat polyphenols when you're trying to absorb iron. You can mix your sprouts with berries and olive oil. It might be a great exception for added sugar or some sweetener.

I’m eating broccoli sprouts for health reasons. I’m not too fond of the taste of plain sprouts, but I pour a little olive oil and acv over them plus a little course salt, and I like them so much now. Hi Robin! Great video! You must know that sulforaphane is created upon damage to the plant such as from tearing, or chewing, or chopping during food preparation. Sulforaphane is really a defense mechanism of the plant, in that it produces a slightly bitter taste that discourages herbivores from continuing to munch on the sprouts. . Mixing the sprouts with orange juice is a great idea, but I find pineapple juice is even better for cutting that bitter undertaste. I also like to add a pinch of pink Himalayan salt to add flavor. . You should have also mentioned myrosinase, the enzyme that's needed to convert the precursor glucoraphanin into the desired compound sulforaphane. Glucoraphanin is hardy enough to survive the heat of cooking, but myrosinase is apparently much more fragile. . Rhonda Patrick recommends adding a pinch of dried mustard to your steamed or boiled broccoli before serving, to ensure sulforaphane is delivered - mustard is also a cruciferous vegetable. . So I add the pinch of mustard to the blended sprouts and pineapple juice as well, even though no cooking was done in that case. Just in case, you know. . Well, that's my 2¢. Cheers!

I've been sprouting for almost 7 years now. If you eat broccoli sprouts with ground pepper, your body absorbs more of the nutrients from the sprouts. If you freeze the sprouts, that instantly creates more than double the sulforaphane content in the sprouts. Pouring 158F / 70C hot water on the sprouts for 5 minutes will more than triple the sulforphane content. Never boil sprouts or you lose all the nutrients. Also microwaving them for 20 secs works as well. Sulforaphane is created from the sprouts when they are damaged by chopping them, chewing them, heating them, or freezing them. Also, the younger spouts contains more sulforaphane than the longer and older sprouts.

The sprouts I've eaten, I love it on a low carb bagel with cream cheese and the sprouts sprinkled on top as well as making an omelette with a sprinkle of cheese and some veggies and sprinkling sprouts inside before folding it over and serving it on a plate. My standard breakfast is a bowl of white rice topped with natto, shiso garlic, & 100-200g of broccoli sprouts. It admittedly doesn't taste great, but I've found it's been good enough to consume regularly for a few months. Really appreciate your insight about salts and fatty foods (e.g. avocado) make the sprouts naturally much more enjoyable -- that makes perfect sense. The orange juice + blended sprouts recipe is another thoughtful recipe I wouldn't have thought of! Looking forward to trying these ideas out.

I sprinkle them over most meals (not in a clump like pictured in the video) My absolute favourite is as a topping to a vegetable frittata , it just adds so much to meal that was already my favourite. I can't go back!

Glucoraphanin is a glucosinolate compound that is converted into sulforaphane through an enzymatic process when the sprouts are chewed, chopped, or crushed. This conversion is facilitated by the enzyme myrosinase, which is also present in broccoli sprouts.
@johanessuryanata1544
@johanessuryanata1544 5 ай бұрын
To maximize the bioavailability of glucoraphanin and ensure optimal conversion to sulforaphane, you can follow these strategies: 1. **Choose Fresh Broccoli Sprouts:** Freshly harvested broccoli sprouts contain higher levels of active myrosinase enzyme, which is crucial for the conversion of glucoraphanin to sulforaphane. 2. **Chop or Chew Thoroughly:** Chopping or chewing broccoli sprouts thoroughly helps break down the cell walls and release myrosinase, promoting the conversion of glucoraphanin to sulforaphane. 3. **Combine with Foods Rich in Myrosinase:** Consuming broccoli sprouts with foods that contain myrosinase, such as mustard seeds, radishes, or wasabi, can enhance the conversion of glucoraphanin to sulforaphane. 4. **Avoid High Heat:** Cooking at high temperatures can denature myrosinase, reducing its activity. To preserve myrosinase activity, lightly steam or sauté broccoli sprouts or consume them raw. 5. **Store Properly:** Store broccoli sprouts properly in the refrigerator to maintain their freshness and enzymatic activity. Avoid storing them for too long, as the activity of myrosinase may decrease over time.

To maximize the absorption of sulforaphane and its potential health benefits, consider the following strategies: 1. **Consume with Healthy Fats:** Sulforaphane is fat-soluble, so consuming it with healthy fats like avocado, olive oil, or nuts can enhance its absorption. 2. **Pair with Vitamin C:** Vitamin C can help stabilize sulforaphane and improve its absorption. Foods rich in vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, strawberries, and bell peppers, can be included in meals with sulforaphane-containing foods. 3. **Include Cruciferous Vegetables:** Besides broccoli sprouts, other cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, kale, and Brussels sprouts also contain glucoraphanin. Consuming a variety of these vegetables can provide a broader range of health-promoting compounds. 4. **Consider Supplement Form:** Sulforaphane supplements are available, often in the form of broccoli sprout extract. These supplements can provide a concentrated dose of sulforaphane, but it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplements. 5. **Optimize Gut Health:** A healthy gut microbiome can support the absorption and metabolism of sulforaphane. Consuming probiotic-rich foods and fiber can promote gut health. 6. **Avoid Overcooking:** Overcooking cruciferous vegetables can reduce their sulforaphane content. Lightly steaming or sautéing them can help retain more of their beneficial compounds.

I love this so much! Thank you so much for sharing. Especially your findings on taste combinations and what you preferred to go better together than other things like pairing them with the fattiness element of avocado and such. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Dr. Brooke Goldner, but she has 1000s of amazing healing testimonials from people she's helped worldwide, and they're primarily from cruciferous vegetables in conjunction with plant-based omega-3s like flaxseed and chia seed oil. I actually asked her since she basically has live Q&A sessions online every Wednesday afternoon, I was excited to ask her since she has had such tremendous results with cruciferous vegetables if she had ever considered cruciferous Sprouts since that would seem to amplify the results. She seemed to shoot it down rather quickly which was disappointing to me; however, I still plan to be the guinea pig and experiment with cruciferous sprouts myself like broccoli Sprouts, radish Sprouts, after watching your video - red cabbage Sprouts, etc. I am in the process of experimenting with my healing from a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, and I am convinced that Sprouts are going to be instrumental. Thank you again so much for sharing all of this! Hv

Excellent initiative to incorporate cruciferous vegetables and sprouts in the diet - I eat them daily. I would only advise to chose a better base than cashews, which have probably the worst fat profile of all nuts (pure omega 6), besides being full of lectins...

Hello! I was diagnosed with breast cancer last spring and my granny in law immediately sent me a broccoli sprouts growing kit so I’ve been making my own sprouts and eating them every day for a few months now. As the weather is now getting cooler I’ve started eating warmer foods and I’ve been throwing the sprouts on top of soups, etc. But then I started to wonder if the heat makes them lose any of the sulforaphane healing properties. I’ve googled it but get answers from it actually triples the benefits if heated to a certain temperature and others say it decreases the benefits. Have you done any research on this?

Broccoli sprouts are very good in salad but I don't think I could eat it every single so they have a supplement from the place I go it's organic broccoli sprouts they freeze dry on the so that preserves the nourishment of the broccoli and you just take them easy and capsules veggie capsules and they would have the same effect as if you were home cuz when you freeze-dry unmute preserve the nourishment of the broccoli I mean even liver I could eat that everyday but I could eat a date at one or two times a week so I take a supplement for that too is one of the most vitamin dense foods there is on the planet grass-fed grass-finished liver

When asked about why I eat sprouts and what makes them so good for you. I give an analogy. Who is more healthier, under normal circumstances, a new born baby or an 80 year old? Broccoli, the full grown vegetabe, is the complete manifestation of the plant seed itself. It has gone, almost, to flower. It has used most of its nutrients and power to grow the plant in order to spill its seeds to further the life of the organism. It still has benefits of course. But not as nutrient dense as the sprout. Just wait until the power of what is in the seed is remembered. I mean, discovered.
@TheScienceofSelfCare
@TheScienceofSelfCare Жыл бұрын
Poetic. Though many “products” of seeds can be very nutrient dense as well (eg. Avocado flesh). 🥑😋I do love seeds of all sorts and there is no doubt many edible seeds have wonderful macronutrient and micronutrient profiles. Pumpkin seed butter, for example, is delicious, nutritious, and an underrated condiment in my opinion.
