Fun fact: Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ was originally intended to be 4 parts, but Chris said he ran out of time to figure out the 4th one. Edit: For those wondering where I got this from, Chris said this in a reply to my comment on the video for Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ Part I.
@nolanboucher49124 ай бұрын
that’s really interesting seeing as each of the three parts is meant to be one of the parts that made the false son, i think providence being part 1, mithrix being part 2, and auerlionite being part 3. I wonder if part 4 was going to be the false son’s “true” theme of sorts, or the most original to him which ended up being too hard to make on time.

@@megumin2137 the time signature, or beat. most music is 4/4, meaning 4 beats per bar, and a quarter-note is one beat. you can easily count the time as "1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4 etc" 3/4 is a waltz, 3 beats for par, quarternote. 123,123,123 etc. 2/4 is a march, 1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2 sometimes you want to write the music as having something OTHER than a quarter note having a beat, often due to complexity or a faster tempo. then you might use 8th notes instead, hence 6/8. that's 6 beats per par, and an 8th note gets the beat. that's technecally the same as 3/4, but it sounds and feels different. but lets say you wanna get out of the comfortable zone of western music's 4 notes or 3 notes per bar. 5/8 and 5/4 are both used a lot in jazz, that's 5 notes per par and either quarter or 8th notes. 5/4 gives a slightly lilted feeling, where 5/8 often really feels like 10 beats per 2 bars. 7/8 is 7 notes per par of 8th notes, or functionally 3.5/4. you get get as weird as 11/8 (like one of the songs in RoR1) really its just a way of counting and organizing notes so the players and listeners can determine the grove and where the downbeats are.

yeah the jazz parts of the song are in 13/16 (or 13/8) and the electric guitar parts are in 7/8+7/8+7/8+13/16, which is just cruelty for anybody trying to follow the beat. even worse from the same album is Forgot the Cry of Gulls, the last section is in this abomination of mixed meter (and the first section is not much better): 8/8+5/8+5/8+5/8+7/8+5/8+5/8+5/8+7/8+5/8+5/8+5/8+7/8+5/8+5/8+5/8+7/8. basically it's doing 5/8+5/8+5/8+7/8, but every 16th measure (4th repeat of that pattern) a bar of 8/8 is added, so it repeats every 17 measures.

@@bennie1079 I can't really understand what you wrote, but the thing in question I'm referring to is called "Alt codes" and is a very useful thing to know. For example, for Germans, code alt+0228 gives a umlaut ("ä") and alt+0246 gives o umlaut ("ö").
@anusaukko67924 ай бұрын
@@LordDragox412 They don't have an ä and ö on their keyboard by default? That's interesting.
@LordDragox4124 ай бұрын
@@anusaukko6792 There's both a German keyboard layout that has them (which sucks. "ü" key is to the right of "P" key) and default Qwerty layout with system language settings that makes alt+a give you "ä" and alt+o giving you "ö" etc. The trick's more useful for people studying abroad and borrowing a friend's laptop for a moment. You're not gonna change the settings just to write a quick e-mail and stuff, you just use the alt codes. And if you're in law school, alt codes like alt+21 ("§") are useful.
