yea and when you watch tyson fury fight his entire game is his feints tyson has a habbit in the ring of wearing a glove with a white thumb he uses the white thumb to constantly rub against his eye so if it bleeds he can see the red vs the white thumb he even raises his hand to his face as if hes checking his eye cut and then uses that as a jab ontop of that he often raises his shorts up his thigh with his glove as an excuse to feint low when ngannue didnt bite on the fienting game tyson gave up and came in close for some dirty boxing but ngannou didnt fight out the clinch traditionally.. he would quite literally throw tyson to one side and go for something on the break at this stage fury was out of all answers.. both his feinting game and his bigman game had been shut down i do think AJ can gameplan to beat francis easily BUTTT i dont think AJ owns a chin good enough to allow him to win with a gameplan i cannot get the AJ vs ruiz left hook where AJ got hit on the top of the head and went full chicken leg for 45s

Great thoughts from Dan. Leaning towards Ngannou myself. Simon asks a good question as to why MMA guys can transition into boxing, while boxers can't transition into MMA. A couple of observations: 1. How many MMA guys have really made this transition successfully? Ngannou looked great in the one match he's had so far, Connor didn't. Most of the other MMA guys to make the jump lately have been fighting influencers, not pro boxers... 2. MMA guys are incentivised to jump over to boxing for two reasons: first, the money is overwhelmingly bigger, and second, lots of them are boxing fans because they've been exposed to boxing in their training. In both cases, the converse is not true. 3. Boxers are specialists, and MMA guys are generalists, true. But MMA guys run the gamut from people who are true all-rounders to people who are specialists that round out their game. An outstanding boxer could spend 6 - 12 months intensively training wrestling, BJJ, and muay thai at the highest level and sparring MMA, then make the jump successfully. The goal is not to become a generalist - it's to learn enough so that you can defend yourself against (for example) leg kicks, take downs, etc. and force the opponent to fight your fight. All I am saying with the above, really, is that boxers probably wouldn't find it that much harder to transition into MMA than the other way round. The reason we don't see it that often is more to do with incentivisation than aptitude.

You make some good points but I don’t think a boxer could transition against an mma fighter who had started as a wrestler. People who’ve trained takedown defence for years can’t stop the high level wrestlers taking them down. Take Bo Nickal, you think after a year of mma training anyone could stop him doing whatever he wanted with you? I don’t.

I agree with your points. Longtime MMA fan here, just going to add that - as you know - not all MMA guys are the same. Some MMA guys are better at BJJ and would do terrible in Boxing but do well in a BJJ tournament (Damien Maia for example). Some are great at wrestling, some at kickboxing. I love that about MMA that you get all these different styles facing off against each other. Francis always had a solid boxing foundation in MMA, so for him to transition into Boxing feels more natural than say Jon Jones (wrestling base) doing boxing. Add in the fact that its Heavyweight Boxing so punching power levels out some deficiency in boxing technique - and you have a dangerous opponent in Ngannou. I can't wait for this fight. It was a dream match-up for many years for me.

When Ngannou makes a error and AJ detonates a 4 punch combo on his chin, all of which are KO punches Ngannou wont be the same person either. Tyson Fury cant counter to save his life, whereas AJ basically specialises in it. Fury for all of his skill is very sloppy when it comes to punch delivery, AJ on the other hand is sharp and explosive. Ngannou said Fury was the hardest puncher he faced, if that is the case, AJ will shock him big time.

I loved Dan's point about difference of fighting barefoot and w boxing shoes, and how it affects footwork and movement, that's a great insight imo. Also I feel there are some boxers out there that could do well in mma, but I am unsure the time needed to train and learn other techniques, would be justified to them to make the switch. Maybe if they didn't think boxing was working out.. But I feel that would really depend on the individual. Like mma guys work on a form of boxing every day. But not many boxers are probably working on their jiu-jitsu as example, so it would require a bit more imo than the other way.

Agree with Hardy 100% exact same reasons I’ve put money on Ngannou winning. - Cooper is an extremely intelligent coach with experience in boxing and mma, I believe they would have come up with a gameplan to utilise Ngannou’s superior ability in the clinch and fatigue Joshua in a way he’s not used to. - AJ doesn’t have the same type of heart that Fury does, very very few people do, if he is knocked down which let’s face it is quite likely, there’s a good chance he’s going to become hesitant, lose focus and his composure. - Ngannou is physically the more powerful and durable guy, AJ is used to being the bully, if his ego gets the better of him and he tries to trade shot for shot I don’t see it ending well for him.

AJ vs Ngannou is how Mayweather vs McGregor would have gone if they were the same size and if Mayweather was at his peak and not retired and not training. Top boxers (who take the fight seriously) will demolish any MMA fighter at boxing. Look at the state of Fury in the Ngannou fight vs him now when preparing for Usyk or when he fought Klitschko. MMA fighters always ignore Ray Mercer (pretty much retired boxer) vs another former UFC HW champ, Tim Sylvia. How long did that one last?

He’s a very high level kick-boxer who has taken some mma fights - an mma fighter who does muy Thai leg kicks can end a fight in the street quickly - it can negate the hands if the other person doesn’t plan to wrestle- and once your legs are gone the punches are all arm so even if the mma fighter gets caught trying to take the boxer down it’s not a ko punch
