Marvel, Sega and video games! The MCU is getting old like the PS3. No PS5 games though? You'd think with the Marvel cinematic universe and superheroes being as high grossing as it is that we'd get more video games on them, but that's unfortunately not really the case. Avengers, anyone? But once upon a time, we did. This is about that. A self inflicted retrospective.

Big issue with getting the real actors to voice act: Just because someone can act well doesn't mean they can voice act well. Not always the case, but it is a different experience being a character and acting as them than it is to stand in a room speaking the same line into a microphone several times until the voice director says you can move on to the next one. That, and big name actors may just phone in their voice roles because they're not getting paid as much as a normal acting role.
@TheAssassin642

But they do ADR all the time. Though that's not the same as voice acting because they can probably see themselves reading the lines and are just dubbing over it. But yeah that seems close to voice acting.

@@TheAssassin642 yeah this was my thought too, they do ADR so what's the problem? I will say the only ADR I've seen was Hugh Jackman for one of the wolverine movies or X-Men movies and yeah I would say it's a different experience (like he is full into the scene basically acting it out in the room he's in) than just voice recording a sound booth so maybe that's why they're not good at it.

@@TheAssassin642 RDJ would have had to do it for all the scenes he's in the suit. It might be a case where they have no context of the scene, poor direction. Like they just have lines on a page. There was this weird trend in the late 2000s where cross gen games used the last gen version for the pc release, going against the entire concept of the pc. You can still see this today with pc versions not getting next gen features, effectively making them the last gen versions.

It was very common with Disney games at the time too. That made a bit more sense at least since they were mainly aimed at kids. Honestly I really enjoyed the Captain America tie in game, the HD one specifically, it was the closest to Batman Arkham combat as it was going to get without being well Batman Arkham and it made me really like the idea of Captain America as a video game, plus the VA for it which had a lot of the cast to reprise their roles from the movie actually did a better job than most Tie In games that get the movie actors to reprise their given roles, still though with Amy Henning's Captain America project being announced as a team up with the Black Panther makes me more excited than ever for Captain America and even characters who never got a game prior to actually get their own games or heck a bigger role in a Marvel game at all, so excited where the future leaves us True Believers with the world of Marvel.

I actually thought The Incredible Hulk movie with Edward Norton was a pretty good movie and highly underrated. I thought Norton did a good job playing the world-weary wanderer aspect of Bruce Banner's character. That being said, I actually do like Mark Ruffalo's performance the best, but Norton did pretty well in his own right. This is a total side-bar, but there was a line in a conversation between Black Widow and Banner from Avengers: Age of Ultron that I really like. She states (I might end up paraphrasing), "You're the only guy who's afraid to fight because he knows he'll win." I don't remember much about that film, but that moment sticks out for me.

I remember back in the 2016-2018 time period I thought to myself that Marvel was really kicking up their game in... games. Telltale Guardians, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, and LEGO Avengers & Marvel 2 But it really does seem that after Spider-Man 2018 they really became motivated to go for bigger and prestigious AAA games. Even if the Avengers game was a failure we still got great Miles Morales and a Guardians game (I haven't played it yet) and we got Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, Captain America & Black Panther, open world Black Panther, and Iron Man coming. Spidey '18 really motivated Marvel to aim bigger and higher and I really appreciate the game for it.

Thor is probably the biggest disappointment - considering how many God of War games had come out at that point. All developers had to do was use that game as a template & change the God of War for the God of Thunder. Captain America Super Solder's devs understood, that if you're gonna do a quick license tie-in, just "borrow" everything you can from another game that can fit within the core of the character, story, enemy & levels. Thor the video gane attempted that, but failed miserably, which is even more baffling.

Watching this video after the announcement of EA Motive's Iron Man game. I hope they learned the lessons of these Iron Man games to give us the Iron Man game we've been clamoring for since we were kids. Seeing EA's name attached does set off more than a few alarm bells, but it's not like they've never made a good game before. And people do seem to have a fairly positive opinion of this Motive studio, so I'll err on the side of being excited for the game for now. And besides, I think that superhero games are being held to a higher standard nowadays. The Arkham games were all great, both Insomniac Spider-Man games were great, and Guardians of the Galaxy was great. And while it's not out yet, even the people who think Gotham Knights looks mid (can we please retire that godforsaken word as an insult?) have to admit that it still looks miles better than anything in this video. It's just a shame that no one's ever released an Avengers game. I'm sure a big budget Avengers game would be very well received and not at all embarrassing.

People really forget how far ahead of the PC those consoles were at the time. Even top Master Race PCs struggled to keep up with games coming out for the Xbox 360 or the PS3 later on. That's why most PC versions were "old gen" versions. A computer that could realistically run a PS3 game would cost way more than even the average gaming rig.
@PosthumanHeresy
@PosthumanHeresy Жыл бұрын
That was because those consoles were actually some pretty marvelous purpose-built hardware. The great recession kept them along so long that we forget that. The PS3 in particular is such a unique system that porting to/from it is hard, emulating it is even harder, and when Kojima weaved MGS4 into the framework of the hardware via his team being experts at the Playstation architecture, he accidentally made a game impossible to port off the system. PCs started outclassing consoles because computing power doubled about five times from one console generation to the next thanks to the great recession putting them on pause. PCs didn't get significantly better so much as consoles stagnated for a decade. Of course, Valve gave PC gaming the biggest shot in the arm ever with Steam and it's been roided out since.

@@PosthumanHeresy Yup! PCs brute forced their way out of the seventh gen, but even then developers were still squeezing out power from the Xbox 360 and the PS3. I recall John Carmack disappointed that the One and the PS4 were nearing their announcements, because he still felt those consoles could've gone one at least until 2015 or so. In the end, I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't have been better. @@du0lol I've never heard anyone say the generation should have gone longer, but if John Carmack thinks so then it's true. Name a 3D game. It's engine is using John Carmack's code. If it isn't, it's an absolute shitshow to work with and only used by the idiots who made it unless it's also Japanese (and even they've started given in and using Unreal lately). Unreal and Source are both built on top of his code. Personally I just find it funny that after they both jumped the gun trying to return to the previous pace when going from the One/PS4 to the Series/PS5, the human malware caused a second Great Recession. Shoulda slowed down!

@@PosthumanHeresy To be fair, I kinda felt the same way back then too, which is why I was so struck by hearing Carmack's opinion. I remember playing Resident Evil 6 and being surprised at how good it looked, especially in comparison to other games on the system. Next gen arrived a year later and, early on, it was still hard to distinguish between Xbox 360 and Xbox One games. Very different than the jump from Xbox to Xbox One.

18:21 the fact I recognized one of those renders as the Secret Rings render shocked me. Pretty thankful that the only MCU game I touched from the early days as a kid was the Iron Man Movie one is surprising as both my brother and I played the shit out of Web of Shadows and Ultimate Alliance 3. Also I know that Edge of Reality was alright licensed wise as I LOVED the Over the Hedge game to death! Imo one of my personal favorite Dreamworks related Licensed games

33:30 Unexpected Ser Aymeric (from the Critically Acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV with a free trial that includes both A Realm Reborn AND the critically acclaimed Heavensward expansion up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime) is appreciated! Oh, and it’s also nice to see this video finally realized. Played the PS3 version of the original Iron Man game at a cousin’s house once (but don’t remember how I felt about it). Never got it myself though bc when I was a kid I was more into racing games (especially Need For Speed, have all of the 6th & 7th gen console NFS games in my collection)

The thing with tje 360 games running "better" than the ps3 is an interesting phenomenon because in many ocassions it was kind of a myth, since the games also ran bad on the 360, just in different ways/techical areas. Also it usually only happened if the game was 1stly developed for the 360 and then ported to the ps3. If it happened the other way, the ps3 version then ran "better" than the 360, like with Street Fighter X Tekken, where the 360 version was the inferior one. There were many games, specially fighting games that had total parity on how they ran, with the only exception being capcom fgs, which always had issues on both consoles, specific to them.

I love this kind of stuff, thanks so much. I've been trying to collect all the variants that are different (though my Cap was on Xbox 360, not ps3), the only ones left for me to find are Thor (wii), and Cap(3ds),though cap is WAY expensive, $60 on ebay right now.
