yep Ascetics missing because From threw the baby out with the bath water due to everyone shitting on ds2 is why I hate the souls community at large. I get it, ds2 did some questionable things... but ffs it did a LOT right that just doesnt exist in later games. (I do find it funny everyone is running around saying "you gotta level vigor to 60!" when the complaint in ds2 was having to level adaptability... I get its kind of apples to oranges, but adp had a much lower soft cap so in hindsight its hilarious to see people defending 60 vigor) I was really hoping the Stakes of Marika would be a way to do something Ascetic like, but nope. Just a "close to boss" respawn point. big sigh

On one hand, it's still kinda bs that she heals even if you perfectly deflect her hits. On the other hand however, the bonus damage you can get especially with quicker weapons like katanas and the new light greatsword after deflects kinda makes up for it, so I suppose it's not too bad.

I already made a mod for that. I first made the flask last indefinitely, but that was annoying cause you had to drink it again after death or fast travel, so I have now made it linked to the Two Handed Sword talisman from the DLC. I can probably also add spark vfx from parry now that you mention it. I haven't published this yet but maybe I will now. I recently made a mod for changing the model of Milady. With that remodel, having Oathseeker knight's armor and deflecting, elden Ring has become my dream souls game.

if this is a default mechanic, this would really elevate elden ring combat for sure. Fromsoft can make the mechanic cost fp whenever you succesfully deflect just to balance it to not make it too OP. But it is what it is, at least now we have an option even if for a relatively short time haha

This is a general design trend I see with fromsoft, they have the coolest ideas but they never go all the way with them You get a sekiro deflect, but no animations for it and you only get it in the physick You get gravity magic, but it's slow af, And good luck pulling enemies that aren't super small and squishy as is You get what might be the coolest status effect,madness, and a cool grab attack spell to go with it, but only get to do it on players The list goes on and on

It's a great concept but it requires you to be embered like in DS3, except in DS3 every time you beat a boss, you're automatically embered, but it's not the case in ER which makes some great runes not useful. Gravity magic really does suck. I watch Radahn being so cool with gravity magic but when players do that, it's so underwhelming. The katana that has gravity ash of war essentially making that weapon worse than all other katana

I think it's a lot better for an RPG when the skills your character has have to be chosen in some form. Even some full on action games put mechanics like this behind items. It not being the default isn't bad, and them not making deflect animations for a limited dlc added mechanic is just them being sane for once about the amount of content they're doing. Consider that Sekiro has one weapon, while for Elder Ring they'd most likely want to do deflect animations for every weapon type, and two sets for each weapon type as you can one hand or two hand whatever you're using to block. Crystal tears are not the best way but it makes sense for it to have a time limit in Elden Ring since the game wasn't built with this mechanic in mind from day 1 and it's a powerful late game addition instead. In Elden Ring 2 or whatever they do next, it would be better as a talisman, a great rune effect, or maybe an inherent quality of specific weapon types (though maybe that one would be too restrictive for most people's preferences). If they introduce a new system to infuse weapons with passive skills (on top of the already existing affinities and ashes or war) then having deflect as one of the options would be a great way to do it imo, as long as the alternatives are similarly game changing.

Fr The main issue with her normally is that you don't really have the tools to deal with her actively, just rolling, which is "fine" but limiting, especially when we run into Waterfowl, which besides being a visual mess, you REALLY don't have the tools to deal with, because of the autotracking and roll catching features it has. All the deflecting hard tear does is give you a defensive option that actually just works against her. And the result is she completely falls flat, because genuinely, without waterfowl as a crutch, she kinda can't cook. Take away Waterfowl and she's basically just the Shadow of Yarhnam from bloodborne. You know. The one with the defective dodge AI that you can force to dodge into the wall endlessly, that has to have two buddies to work.

@@sharkk127I think you're misremembering, there's nothing that indicates that she was meant to be a sekiro boss, what actually happened when they modded her into sekiro was that people found that her moveset was way too simple and slow for that game.

Don't get me wrong, her moveset does look like it could be in sekiro if you made it faster and gave her more moves, but as of now we just don't know if she was ever a repurposed sekiro boss. Zulie the witch (she's very credible) made a video about this though, she made a point that every character in sekiro uses moves similar to their masters (owl/sekiro, isshin/Emma) and if Malenia was supposed to be tomoe, she shares no moves at all with her supposed student genichiro, so we don't know if she was supposed to be in sekiro, but at least it's unlikely that she was tomoe.

Are you perfect blocking each hit or just the first one? Because it looks like if you perfect block the first one, all other blocked attacks are blocked without chip damage.

it does not stance break, sadly. but a perfect guard boosts your counter up to 40% more health and stance damage

@@unleashedbread6146 that's an interesting concept. unfortunately, it does not. but from what ive seen, i think it is good the way it is, it deals a lot of stance damage. i haven't really tested it on a lot of bosses except for malenia and rellana so i can't really tell how strong it really is against others edit: it actually does stack up lmfao i was mistaken, the more you deflect it adds 20% more damage to your guard counters

She's not using your blood to heal, she's not a vampire. healing through your blocks makes sense lore/gameplay wise
