This looks amazing! They really improved on it, I just wish they had done something more visually pleasing with the shattering glass. I know it's not how glass actually shatters, but the way it behaves in the Ghostbusters game is just so pleasing to look at... I wish more games would go for those things when it comes to dynamically interacting with the world rather than 1:1 realism, even if that's the goal.

The thing i love about the new maintenance tunnels is that they fixed the compass because in the og the compass leaded you into a wall so you would physically have to go out your way to look up tedious guides, but in this one the pings and the compass in general is chefs kiss

I mean, there are definitely things that have been censored. Cliff Viet cong dialogue, some female survivor's clothing has been changed to be less revealing, Larry the butcher's design was changed to be less offensive and the cultists no longer pray. Censorship is unfortunate, but to act like these things outweigh all the positives that the remaster offers is crazy. The core gameplay is intact, and many things have been improved upon. Any real dead rising fan can find a lot to enjoy here

As someone who enjoyed OG DR a lot, I would like to get this game too. unfortunately though i will give it a year or so until there is more sales or price goes down, nothing wrong with it just it's out of my budget I am too poor for modern games. I look forward for the new challenge runs in future though going to be brilliant.

Very nice! Have to chip in and give my two cents about the remake or remaster thing but in my opinion it's floating somewhere inbetween hence 'deluxe remaster' I suppose. It has a nice visual and graphical overhaul but it keeps a lot of the core game data such as animations being the main example. I think they even clarified a remake would be way more from the ground up with different animations and gameplay overall. Still good stuff though!

Significantly easier, With time skip it’s almost a breeze. The only real worry I’d say is when special forces spawn after a certain amount of time. They can stunlock the hell out of you

I’ve platinumed the game but I didn’t pay attention to notice this myself… are the unlocks at level up still random? Like will you always get disembowl at level 43 or was that just me twice in a row?

So they are random but not. They are seeded into the same level brackets and randomized in order. So levels 2-5 are always Jump Kick, Stock, HP, and Dodge Roll. The order in which acquire these is randomized. About every 4 to 5 levels has the same sets

Pretty much the only advantage I'd say is a chunk of the voice actors, *maybe* difficulty? I remember seeing the prisoner car and feeling they're WAY slower/aggressive, but I haven't played the remaster yet, so take that with a grain of salt.

The game suffered more from the censorship discussion than the actual changes in my opinion. The only actual atrocious change was whitewashing Larry. Rather than removing the caricature features and keeping him Chinese, they made him look extremely middle American and it takes a big chunk out of the metaphor the story originally presented itself as. Whether you think the changes were good or bad, one fact is true: the Dead Rising community really blew it for Capcom. They really wanted to make this game attractive to old fans and newcomers. But when newcomers saw the contradictory behavior of the community, they just ceased their interest. No one wants to pay for a game when content creators and fans are arguing. For reference, Steam player activity on Steam peaked in the 6,000's for DRDR. Versus Frostpunk II coming out the following day, an indie/AA game peaking in the 30,000's. Chances are we aren't getting a DR2DR.

Capcom did it to themselves for opting to change things that were present in the original game in a remaster. You are right that the likelihood of more games from this series is greatly diminished due to the devided fan base. That is very unfortunate to me as Dead Rising's original formula is more interesting than most zombie games.

@@Ecdycis 100%, that's the beauty of it. It uses zombism as a metaphor for consumerism. Vice versa to Carlito who has vilified American consumerism, it's a foreigner who was "zombified" into consumerism that kills him. Carlito brought zombies to Willamette, but in a way, there was already a type of zombie outbreak. For what Capcom likely thought would be a random one off game in 2006, every decision came together beautifully.
