4:30 it bothers me that he brushed this off because it's actually good advice if you're in the front - you're more likely to get coins in first place but the game also tries to avoid giving you dupes, so holding onto a coin basically guarantees you'll find a banana or a shell in your next item block, which you can then use to block red shells and keep your lead. Having a coin on hand also lets you instantly replenish two if you get hit by something, so it's a waste to just use it immediately when you're already at 10 coins because you're likely just gonna find another coin in the next box as well
