9:00 the graph is showing two things at the same time - the impact of your circadian rhythm which can be shifted intentionally through habit and light exposure, and your internal Chronotype related cycles which don’t adjust much regardless of what you try to do. Hence you get much stronger peaks and troughs as the two influences begin to clash.

Which would you say my chronotype is?
@AmsNl2BcnEs7 ай бұрын
@@AustinSchrock that you have said you function well in the mornings I’d guess early bird… there is a move to a more diverse chronotype breakdown - see bear, wolf, dolphin, etc. What’s often forgotten is they can change as you age as well though unlikely to extremes.

Years ago when I had much more free time, I would often go to sleep at 4am-5am. I noticed that at around 1am-2am, I would sudden just "do" something that required focus. In my case, art. I would procrastinate on that all day until that time. I still don't know why.

I’m a night owl/early bird. So generally I like to get up around 3pm and go to sleep around 9am. It’s a weird schedule compared to most people, but I have a burst of energy right after waking up for 3-4 hours and once again around 10pm-2am and then lastly from 5am-8am. I find that I get more energy peaks this way. Thanks for making this video since not many people discuss this topic aside from basically saying “being a morning person is the best way”

Was really interesting to watch! I would quite like to try an experiment like this myself, but my current situation doesn't allow me to. 😕 I also liked the cliffhanger at the end, am exited for part 2!

Really appreciate the sacrifices you make and the lessons you share with us! This is a really informative and even eye opening video, that's true. As a night owl, now I see some of the patterns in my day too!

Night owl here, first, great video. I am most productive this way. I usually don't sleep at night for two days in a row before I crash. But I do sleep for 4-6 hours some days when I'm pulling all nighters, like I'll sleep at 5pm and wake up at 10pm. I don't need coffee anymore to do this since my body is so accustomed. But I love how I can just sit down and work for hours on end. But it is kind of weird seeing day turn into night turn into day turn into night again from your window. I do try to get out of the house by 8-9am though, so I have something to work towards. Now that exam time is over though, I might try to fix my sleep schedule.

At our Work we have 2 shifts: normal shift (8:00-16:00) and late shift once every 4 weeks (10;00-20:00). Not only am I very much more awake in the morning (around 9:00) of a normal late shift day, the more days I'm in, the more and more sleepy and unproductive I get (no wonder with a 50 hour work instead of a ~38 hour work). But what might be more interesting for your next video: I usually need one full week to get my body and mind go back to my old schedule (going to bed at around 23:00-24:00 and wake up at around 7:00). During this time, I'm very very sleepy in the morning and have trouble with my productivity and discipline to finish my work. So I hope you dont have any time critial projects planned for this period of time. It could become a nightmare. Oh and be prepared to lose your mind from time to time. My colleagues and my chef usually pay the price for getting on my nerves during the last two days of my late shift and also during the week after. I am curious how you manage it with the way back to your old schedule :-)

Interesting! That’s what I experienced during vacation when my early bird schedule shifts. Anyway I return to being an early riser, because I feel more productive and mentally fresher this way.

hi, Great video! I'm trying to get up early like at 5. but i have a hard time falling a sleep. If I go to bed at a decent time. I struggle to fall asleep. & then I miss my 5 am alarm. But then I end up sleeping in half the day. I think the problem lies in in how I fall asleep at night. That's the part I struggle with the most. So I'm not really sure what to make of this situation.
@AustinSchrock8 ай бұрын
My advice would be to do it gradually. Work yourself back 30 min at a time or so otherwise your body won't be used to it. It's like jet lag
@jadenlightnight76958 ай бұрын
@AustinSchrock I'll try that. I have heard that b4. But I never heard it compared to jet lag. Thanks. :)
