Hi! How did you become a trichologist? I’m a hairstylist in the US and I have so many clients who struggle with hair loss, I’m interested in learning how to become certified to bring exclusive appointments to my clients!

Hello, one dermatologist I went to recommended me a shampoo/serum products duo containing thymic peptipes (Brand Thymuskin) for chronic telogen effluvium treatment. I wonder if thymic peptides are safe to use, can they affect hormones in any way? Would love to hear from you about this topic.

Hi again :) is piroctone olamide the same as zink pyritone? Many anti dandruff shampoos seem to contain this rather than the zink p. And does tar do anything for SD? Also, many products contain citric acid and salicylate (any resemblance to salicylic acid?) do they help? Sorry, so many questions, I totally have to overthrow my hair habits and clear out my bathroom cupboard 😳 Thank you so much 🙏🏻

No, it's not the same - piroctone olamide is used more often in regular dandruff shampoos. It's helpful but in my experience SD is pretty stubborn therefore it may not be as effective.

Hi! I had seborrheic dermatitis in my youth, now as an adult my scalp constantly feels sore, very often itchy despite not having the same amount of build up (but I do suffer from hair loss too). Should I treat my scalp for SD even though there is not that much build up? Another question: do you recommend tee tree oil as treatment for SD?

Hi! SD might also be the cause of your hair loss. It doesn't really matter how much build up there is, if it's sore, that means there's inflamation that you should definitely try to calm down. Healthy scalp is the first step to stopping any hair loss. You can use essential oils on your scalp (however in my experience sweet flag/calamus oil works much better for SD) but it is more important to exfoliate your scalp and wash it often with a shampoo that contains mild exfoliator (salicylic, lactic or ascorbic acid) and anti-fungal and antibacterial ingredients (zinc pyrithione). It is also great if it contains menthol as it calms down inflamation beautifly and relieves itching.

Thanks for your reply! I’ve got a shampoo with ketoconazol, but I’ll also look for one with zink pyrithone and menthol. Recently, I’ve been trying to add more days between my washes so my hair doesn’t grease up so quickly, and I’ve finally managed to not wash more than every 4-5 days - you mean this isn’t a good approach, that I ought to wash it more frequently with the exfoliating stuff? (All my shampoos all sulphate free).

Ketoconazol is a bit too harsh for regular use. With SD it is much more effective if you use mild exfoliator but very often and regularly than something strong once a week. With all my SD patients (and myself) I stick to the rule of washing scalp every day or at the very maximum every other day. It doesnt really matter if your hair looks greasy or not, it is more important how your scalp feels and what is going on on the surfice. With SD ,as there is usually an excess of sebum and flakes, it is important to remove both from the scalp as soon as possible because bacteria and fungus feed on them and will very quickly going to cause an inflamation causing even more sebum and more flakes. My next video is going to be about different topic but I do mention SD briefly in there so you may look out for that as well :)

Hello, I’m wondering if ointments containing salicylic acid and specifically tar is good to use to combat SD? I mean as a weekly treatment in between frequent washes with salicylic acid. (In this godforsaken country I’m struggling to find appropriate products 😳) This specific ointment can be ordered from Amazon so I thought I’d give it a try. The only shampoo with salicylic acid I can find here contains sls which I have avoided for years as I find it dries out my scalp 😓.

With ointments it is really all up to the vehicle/Carrier the active ingredient is suspended in. Ointments are usually meant for the body therefore the carrier is most likely something thick that helps the ointment stay where you put it. Very often its vaseline (Petroleum). While that is a good choice for the body , its a terrible choice for the scalp because vaseline is a nightmare to wash out from in between the hair and will most likely clog up the folicles. Check the main ingredient of that ointment to see what consistency it is. I do have a trusted brand for professional trichological SD products - See if you can access brand Mediceuticals. If you can, then i can recommend you a specific set. (they do have SLS in them so I dont know whether you'd still be interested in trying, but they are very moisturizing to the scalp anyway).

The one you should use is called Mediceuticals For Scalp Dandruff Heres instructions on how to use it: 1. Before you wash your hair use Therarx (the one with red nossle) and apply on the scalp only. You dont need a lot just enough to cover the Head. Wait 5-10 mins. 2.Wash your hair and scalp with shampoo X-Folate TWICE. The second time you wash it, leave the shampoo for 3-5 minutes, the longer the better. 3.Wash out the shampoo and apply the conditioner Therapeutic. Apply it only on your scalp not the hair. It is meant to be used on hair too but since it is formulated for the scalp (and not the cheapest) its better to save it Just for scalp use and use another conditioner on the hair lenght if you wish (Just a practical advice). Leave in on your scalp for 3-5mins. Then wash out. You may feel a cooling sensation - it is because it contains menthol that gives it the cooling effect so its completely normal. In the beginning when your scalp is iritated this cooling sensation might be quite strong but as your scalp heals it will become more and more gentle. Wash your hair with this routine everyday for the first month. Then you can See if you can push it to every other day if you wish and still get the same results. If the condition gets worse then return to every day use. You really shouldnt push it more than every other day with SD. All 3 products have mild exfoliators so they will clean your scalp but they are gentle enough for every day use. Additionally the conditioner has tons of great anti hair loss ingredients and its very moisturizing to the scalp. And Just for a disclaimer: i dont work with this company, they dont even know about my existance, i Just really recommend their products because its the Best stuff Ive ever used for SD :) Id be EXTREMELY surprised if that didnt improve your scalp.

@@HairSciencePro thank you so much for advice and suggestions !! I will try to find this and have a go ☺️. I must say just two washes with a simple salicylic acid shampoo I found at the chemist (although w sls) has already improved the state of my scalp, not itching as much. Thanks!! ❤️
