Loving your channel. But always double check your info. A Freehouse is nothing to do with memberships. Pubs don’t have members. Private clubs have members. A free house means they can sell any beer they want as they are free from being tied to a particular brewery. Keep up the great work.
@TravelWithBen1213 ай бұрын
You’re right, Richard 😊 but there’s pubs where I live that have members. Have a good day!

Very much enjoying the obscure and often forgotten treasures you have found just walking around such a historical city. Thanks for showing us these unique delights! These videos are reminding me of a local tour-company here in Seattle/Tacoma Washington called Pretty Gritty Tours. They make similar videos about the history of our region in early America. Your enthusiasm for your city is infectious. I will be visiting the UK in August of next year so I have a full year to continue learning tips and tricks from you to get a "real" London experience off the tourist paths.

Great video. I really liked the mosaic (you were a little hurried with the camera). And also liked the sheep pass. The coin box is a great idea but I'm sure here it would have been broken into. Thanks Ben.

Thank you for the feedback, Carol 😊 I’m really trying to slow down and speak slower in the last 2 videos so I’m working on it! It’s so great the penny chute is still there and used today! I think the money goes so far into the basement, no danger of anyone stealing it!

I love to see unusual sights in London ... we have a "City Secrets" book we bought several years ago with some fun, little-known sights. I know it's not "little-known," but I love the Imperial War Rooms and could spend lots of time in there ... Churchill's daily diaries are fascinating. We loved The Wallace Collection and the Soames House as well.

There is a geocache 😊 the actual cache is placed close to the start of the passageway leading to the shepherdess walk mosaics. A fine piece of artwork representing living london history. And there is a virtual cache at the Fake houses too. It's so fun to check the places you show in this video and do some 'virtual traveling'. Hopefully some day I can come to London irl ❤

Ben my favourite was definitely the fake houses. Though now that they don't have steam trains, I do wonder why the area is still open? I will be in London (Richmond) in three weeks or so for a few weeks. I do hope the weather is OK!
@TravelWithBen1213 ай бұрын
Good question, Steve! I assume it’s because even if the ground is closed, they still won’t build a house directly above the tracks so might as well leave it open. Enjoy your trip!

This is amazing, thank you so much. Fantastic coverage of London. Now, since you say crazy Americans alot lol lol. I must say what did you say about some pubs you have to be a member? What the heck???? Maybe you can explain some of the rules or different situations in London. Also, don't kid yourself alot of people would sit on those steps and take pictures 😮.
@TravelWithBen1213 ай бұрын
Karen, I didn’t even mention Americans in this video 😂 it’s true, some pubs are members only, this is not only a London thing, this is a UK thing. Usually, it’s to keep ‘bad’ people out! One example is, if a pub favours a football team, they will make it members only so fans of other football teams don’t go there and cause trouble.

Hi Ben, I really enjoy these videos but I have to quibble with Big Ben being the name of the clock. I've always heard that Big Ben is the name of the largest bell in the tower. The one that tolls the hour. I also remember visiting London when I was 12 years old and being laughed at by my family when I said that it was set to the wrong time. Apparently back then, at least, it was well known for being accurate. 🙂
@TravelWithBen1213 ай бұрын
You’re right, Dale 😊 I’m sure the clock is not 100% accurate 😂 are any of them? 👀

What was the purpose of building the homes in a crescent shape? Did it serve a particular purpose architecturally, or was it simply for aesthetic purposes? Reminds me of that famous row of homes in Bath. We don’t see that here in the U.S. (I could be wrong) so just wondering.
@TravelWithBen1213 ай бұрын
As far as I know Sheri, it was just for fun! The main road was already there so they decided to build the crescent instead of straight roads. Pretty interesting street!

I do have a question? In the USA we pay our incredible athletes for a gold medal silver and bronze. I had heard the Uk didn't pay the athletes is that true? Just curious since the Olympics are going on. Thank you. No judgements just wanted to know if it's true.
