Thanks for a helpful video - there were lots of things I didn't know before. One thing that irritates me about the whole messaging thing is that some friends are on iMessage, some prefer WhatsApp and some prefer Signal and some just use SMS. I wish there was one app that consolidated all these together so all my text messages were in one place.

I’ve watched a lot of your videos since switching to iPhone and they are very thoughtful and well put together. Keep up the good work. As I’m sure you know here in the UK people just stick to WhatsApp even if they have an iPhone. I can see iMessage is a much nicer app and wish I could make use of it but none of my contacts use it, despite a large percentage of them being in the Apple ecosystem. I have no idea why the UK use WhatsApp so much, it’s an ugly app!!

6:59 - There already is a way to do this. And it’s been there for sometime now (it is not an iOS 16 thing). When you want to share a photo with somebody, use the share icon in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Then at the top of the screen select options. In there is a switch that lets you strip the location from the shared photo (or photos). It will then leave the location in your original from your library without altering it.

Yes, that's correct - most of this video has been recorded on iOS15, with a few iOS16 related extras at the end.

I was waiting for this topic! Thanks and great job. When receiving a photo I can select it and it pops open. But when receiving a video it stays in the little screen. What do I have to do to see it in full screen or pops in a normal video window? Hopefully my question is clear, because of my language barrier. You videos are also viewed in the Netherlands👍🏼

I learned that in iOS16 if one swipes and deletes an unread message (without opening it) one is prompted to decide if it is "junk" or not. Liking that!

Another great video. Something I'm interested in, which you didn't mention is - let me call maintenance. Things that we all should be doing to keep the devices working well. Storage is a big one. You show how to save texted photos, but how about if you don't want to save them? Can I let all texted photos alone, or does it impact my phone's storage? How about all the text strings? I tend to keep them all - but now I have tons! Does it matter?

I have friends in different countries and with different makes of smart phones. It’s interesting to note that the preferred messaging app seems to differ between countries. For example friends in New Zealand appear to favour Facebook Messenger while those in the UK default to WhatsApp! Also my main family messaging group is within WhatsApp because not everyone has an iPhone and maybe on a a restricted data plan so sending photos can be at a cost.

WhatsApp is definitely the most used messaging app here in the UK, although I really wish more of my friends and family would be happy using iMessage. I hate the idea of putting so much content through Meta’s servers everyday, but I guess you go where your people are!

I feel the same way about WhatsApp - and on my iPhone (11 running iOS 16.2) the notifications do not work. I cannot figure out how to get them working so I don’t have any indication on the icon when I have messages waiting to be read. I’ve scoured Apple Support and can’t find a fix. Any ideas? When using iMessage, I would love to use the Photos icon at the bottom of the screen, but the problem is that the photos always go at the top of the message when I need them beneath the text I am sending. Is there any way around this? The only thing I have found so far is to switch to the full Photos app, copy my picture, then switch back and paste it at the bottom of the text message. This can be very tedious if I have a lot of messages to send with photos. Thanks for your help-and all your great tutorials!

Hi I am very lucky to have come across your youtube pages. I started with Dyson... en ended up with I phone tools. So happy with advice. But maybe you can help me with the finger thing /typing. First of all : I have to tick very very very hard on the space button Otherwise than tick the normal letters. If I a not watching all the words are stuck to eacht other. second You said something about tick 3 times on a word and than the alternatives would show ???? nog with my I phone 13 So what I am doning wrong and what is your advice. I will soon be switching to iPhone (kicking and screaming, but glad I have the option!) On my android phone, I have used a third party texting app called Textra for years now. I really liked the timed text feature because my sleep schedule is different from most others. I can write the text, long press the "send" and a menu will pop up - I can choose the date and time I want the text actually sent. I also use Signal. A number if people in my family switched to that from FB Messenger. I liked that it shows if the recipient received the message and if they have looked at it. They just added timed texts also and I may be seeing it is my default texting app - otherwise I can only use it with others who have Signal. I'm trying to educate myself on the iPhone, and was happy there were send options but I didn't see a timed text option. :( Did I miss it or is it somewhere else, or just non existent?

Hi, thanks for again a great informative video for the iPhone. I have a question, though. It seems I am really a garbage-woman, throwing away (too) quickly what I think I don’t need. But discovering your channel, and now again seeing this video, I realise it is not a very wise habit. So now I am searching how to reintroduce the speaking emoji of myself, or the gif’s button. But can’t find them in the store. I thought of reinstalling iMessage, but that seems to be no option either. Can you help me out? the most annoying thing about iMessage is that they don't show me which threads I have not viewed yet, if a conversation becomes complicated with different threads its really hard to keep track what I have viewed and what not, they can just highlite something I have not opened yet, cause its easy to miss something,

I always confused, when sending iMessage, that recipient do not receive it untill I turn on Mobile Data (usually I rely only on GSM SMS connection). My Message is green, not blue, like on Mobile Data mode. The recipient also connected to GSM, but do not receive my SMS. How to send an ordinary SMS like in old times, and all recipiens receive it. It is a little bit disapionting, that technologien do not recognize, in what mode (SMS or Data) message is sent.

Messaging is about speed. Lands instantly on someone's phone, and takes seconds to write and send. SMS messaging is pretty much designed that way. Email is designed for longer messages. Also, keep in mind for many people, they're not monitoring email 24/7, hence why emails can sit in inboxes, waiting to be read. If I need to message my wife to tell her to avoid a certain route home, I'm not going to email her, I'm going to text her. I'm sure you can find out more about the difference between SMS and Email by searching on Google, but that's my take on it.

@@ProperHonestTech Huh. I just requested codes from my bank via email and then via SMS. They both took about two seconds. Maybe years ago SMS was faster, but nowadays it's about the same. I file all my emails (at least the ones I want to save). Messaging seems more like a shoebox; email is more like a filing cabinet. Also, messages take up a lot of space on your device. Email is held on someone else's server. Each to their own, I guess.

Essentially, if I'm going to contact one of my clients to ask them if they've had a chance to review a video and provide me with feedback, I'm probably going to use email. If I'm going to send a quick message to my mate to ask if he's up for a beer after work tonight, I'm going to text him. I don't need a record of me asking my friend if he wants to come for a beer (although technically, there is a record, it's right there in the message thread). But as you say, each to their own.

Most carriers here in the UK now offer either vast amounts, often even unlimited texts as part of contracts. And if you're messaging someone who is also on an iPhone, it's included as part of your data, the same as WhatsApp. I'm not sure why WhatsApp has such a hold here, compared to the US if I'm honest. It's a shame, I'd love to ditch WhatsApp (being a Meta product and all), but everyone I know communicates using it.

@@ProperHonestTech Arrrrr I see, I do have unlimited texts and data come to mention it, but I thought if you added photos, stickers etc to a message this added a mms charge. maybe not iphone to iphone ? But if you were texting someone with android etc from an Iphone they either wouldn't get it or you would be charged a premium. I think this is why people (unfortunatly) gravitate towards Whatsapp as a level which all can use free. PS, your channel has been such a help, great advice put across in a engaging way. Thank you
