Ingredients:
Hilsa fish : 7 pieces
Onion : 1 big size
Ginger: 1"
Green chilli : 7-8 nos
Curd: 3 tbsp
Turmeric powder: 1 tsp
cumin powder: 1 tsp
Coriander powder: 1tsp
Chilli Powder: 1tsp
Salt: as per your taste
Sugar : 1tsp
Mustard oil for cooking
For tempering: 3 cardamom
Red chilli: 1 no
Procedure:
Wash fishes 1or 2 times to prevent its taste. Marinate fishes with curd, turmeric powder, salt, coriander powder, cumin powder, chilli powder, 2 tbsp mustard oil and rest aside for 15-20 minutes. Make paste of onion and ginger. Heat oil in kadhai, add crushed cardamom and 1red chilli, saute for few seconds, add onion and ginger paste, saute for few minutes. Add the marinated fishes and little amount of water. Cover lid. Keep the gas flame in medium low. Cook for 10 minutes. Flip the fishes, add 5-6 green chillis, 1tsp sugar and cook for another 10 minutes covering lid. Off the flame when the gravy thickens. Keep in this stage for five minutes covering lid. The Hilsa Dumpukht is ready to serve with hot rice.
