Being a fan of your channel for a long time, I can't help but relate so many Bengali dishes very similar to how my folks cook at home. My folks are from eastern Nepal (Dad's from Darjeeling) so there's a lot of similarities in our cooking. This is exactly how we cook fish at home. Mustard oil, esp the organic one from the village makes food taste to another level.

This is a common recipe in many Bangal households, I think. We have certainly been used to cooking fish (not just katla) this way. Still, the presentation, the little tips, the small introduction... Bong Eats remains the gold standard. Oh, and one word about using shil-nora. Sadly, convenience has come at the cost of flavour and taste. Nothing beats Posto ground in shil-nora. So it was heartening to see Bong Eats make this exception.

True. Also, as you mentioned, this is a 'kaath Bangal' recipe. In my family, people rarely use only posto (unless they make alu-posto) in a dish. My mom would always mix a bit of mustard seeds to make the flavour a bit more pungent.

This is not an East Bengali receipe. This is a very common receipe from Rarh region. East Bengalis learnt about usage of Posto in cooking from West Bengalis after they escaped to WB after partition. This is a West Bengali dish.

Kintu boro hoye have never been able to recreate it. Ei recipe ta dekhe mone hochhe joddur rannar mashir moton tel-jhaal. Bong eats, as far as I have noticed your videos are perfect for beginners. I am in class 11 and all the dishes that I cook are from your channel. I've learnt each and everything (beginning from the proper way of putting in the vegetables in the kadhai to when flame needs to be kept high or low; maa and thamma tries to help out but I like to make it completely on my own ;) )from your channel, and thank you for such wonderful guidance. I've even learnt the chapati rolling from your videos and to my surprise the Radhaballabhi that I made one day was liked by all, they turned out almost round. My request to you is, please could you make a video on some of the basics? Like chapati rolling, grinding spices on the shil nora, different vegetable chopping styles, etc. Family members always help out, but with your guidance it becomes a lot easier due to the specific tricks and steps that you mention and thus we can make it completely on our own without anybody's help! I would feel very grateful if you would bring a video on this. Thank you for everything ☺️

one of my favourite fish recipe. We usually cook rohu/ catla fish like this. Just add coriander leaves for garnishing.

Being a Ghoti, I have enjoyed this recipe since my childhood, my thakumaa used to make it. Sometimes she even used to add thin slices of potatoes in this and it really tasted great. Adding posto to shorse not only enhances the taste bu it also good for people who can't digest much amount of shorse. Thanks for sharing this recipe on your channel.

Kalo jeera,onion,garlic,tomato,salt,sugar,cover for 5 mins, turmeric,red chilli,water,cover for 5 mins,paste fry for 1 min,hot water,green chilli,boil,fried fish,simmer on medium heat for 5 mins,finish with mustard oil.

Very Delicious dish ... I love these fishes a lot my mom cooks yummy, recent years I stopped eating.. Research says, these fishes grown not with natural ways, but by using bad chemicals...which is very very harmful for humans ... I have to make with sea fishes only.

Kashundi is a fermented condiment that is usually not used for cooking (even though we are seeing a lot of recipes that seem to use it in place of mustard paste nowadays). We think using a mustard powder (like Sunrise mustard powder) is a much better solution when you are in a hurry. And yes, we have an aam pora shorbot recipe coming up this summer 🙌🏾

Please don't add garlic with posto. Taste and smell of garlic are very overwhelming so the taste of posto gets suppressed. Do it without garlic next time it tastes much better. And for sorshe posto even onion is optional. Posto is the hero of the dish don't ruin that with garlic. 😊
