Well...I didn't quite blow the Yoder up, but managed to start a pretty nice grease fire! What counts is that we had fun and still managed to make some pretty awesome smoked pickles! In this video, we walk you through the process for making smoked pickles. We halved some small whole dill pickles, stiffed them with a cream cheese mixture, and wrapped them in good ole peppered bacon. After, we cooked them on the Yoder YS 1500 for about 15 minutes, caught fire and sampled the results. Despite the little issue, the pickles turned out great and the Yoder is back up and running! Whew!

FYI to cut a small void space in the pickle for the CC, some potato peelers have a edged triangle on the end of them it is great for making that cut.

Great recipe. Yes, I agree it’s probably the only time you want thin cheap bacon. Great videos!

The wind chops up the sound a little. So what temperature are you cooking it?

My 2 cents for what it's worth...you have to consider what you like doing on in your spare time and how much you want to be tied to the smoker. I chose to start going down the pellet route while I was in graduate school, because I could get up at 5 am on a Saturday, put the meat on, hit the books, not have to think about the smoker for several hours, and get amazing food at the end of the day. These days, I have a really strict weekend routine. I usually try to get up at 4 am for a good workout, go for a motorcycle ride for an hour or so, practice some coding for 3-4 hours, and cook in the same day. So, for me, the pellet makes sense, because it enables me to do all of the things I want to do in a day without having to worry about adding more wood and monitoring my temperature. However, my next smoker will probably be a Cheyenne. My neighbor just purchased a Cimarron and says he only needs to add wood every hour or so. Therefore, I think you just have to weigh your activities and go from there.

Thanks Steven! The grill is fine! We actually had it running fast and furious yesterday! Got home from vacation and the freezer was out and food has started to defrost! So we cooked it all! Be on the lookout for a video on that in a few weeks!

Any issues with rust on your yoder?

Only 1 little spot. I've found that you need to wipe up any spots of salt/seasonings really quickly. Ours stays on our covered patio.

Just a quick question for you, I spent $3,000.00 on pellet grill/oven that doesn’t even smoke. Does the 1500 actually smoke, smoke on its own without the help of smoke tubes

Hi Bob! Thanks for watching. My assessment is yes, you do get a smoke flavor. Most folks whom I cook for actually enjoy the smoke flavor from this grill better than some of my other grills. That said, the smoke flavor is more mild from this grill than a typical stick burner or charcoal cooker. It's all a matter of personal taste though. Which grill did you purchase?

@@bob45663 Ah I have never cooked on a Rec Tec. I know they are sort of the standard construction setup with a smaller firepot and stamped sheet metal.
