I Bought 11 BROKEN PS4 Controllers for $220 - Let's Fix Them! These 11 DualShock PS4 Controllers had a bunch of analog stick issues which I showed fixing more in-depth than usual for those who are interested. I also fixed a couple charge port issues, fixed some controllers people took apart to fix and never put back together correctly, and replaced a bad battery.

For drifting sticks you dont usually need to replace them, it's usually a matter of the small white disks inside the green compartments at the side of the analog stick, you simply just remove it, clean the inside of the compartment with rubbing alcohol and put it back together.

Thanks Steve, had 2 controllers with the USB mini charging ports become lose over time. Managed to remove and repair the ports by carefully closing the socket , only as a workaround, but ordered 2 new ports anyway, but gets you up and running while waiting for the ports to arrive. I would recommend when ordering the ports pay attention to the model number i.e JDS-001 or JDS-011 and not just order without checking. Great video. Thanks Rich

Glad you made this video. A ps3 controller of mine sustained some liquid damage a while back and exhibited similar readings in the the gamepad settings (readings jumping around rather than staying steady). I tried lots of stuff to fix it, but gave up and replaced the whole motherboard. I didn't try replacing the analog sticks, tho. I wonder if that's the problem. It looks like it would be easier to install the new analog stick module if you wick away the solder after removing the the old one. That way, you can just pop the pins through the holes without having to keep all that solder hot. You also don't have to subject as much of the board to prolonged heat that way, since you can just use an iron to apply localized heat to each pin.

Hey, this is just a tip for anyone that has analogue stick drift problems. So if you open up the two green compartments on the top and sides of the joysticks, inside will be white joystick sensors and all you have to do is replace those and your stick drift problem will be fixed. Just make sure your replace the right ones as the top sensors are what picks up the left and right movement of the joystick and the sensors on the sides are the ones that pick up the up and down movements.

Hi Steve, love your video's. Just was wondering why you replace all the analoge sticks instead of opening them and cleaning the inside with alcohol. Most drifting problems can be fixed that why and saves money and time on soldering new analog sticks. Maybe you can do a in depth video ones on the inside of the analoge stick? Keep up the good work!

lol jay's two cents broke a $2500 graphics card but then later fixed it. I think it's the only time I've heard of one being fixed. He originally bypassed the power limiters for overclocking, but then was trying to restore it and broke off the resistor. His soldering technique was TERRIBLE. I was cringing. lol But hey if it works does it matter that it's not flush with the PCB?

Next time on good condition controllers, before replacing sticks, try to clean flux traces from the PCB. Factories use cheap flux that over time creates a lot of issues such as interference/resistance between pins and that the actual issue. Same happening with Power-A Nintendo and Xbox controllers. I "fixed" loads of controllers this way. Main reason why you MUST clean flux after soldering...

Great video Steve! Controller fixing is currently my favorite electronic repair to do. Do you have a good source for the replacement thumbsticks? Some of the ones I get can be subpar quality. The primary issue I run into is where clicking the sticks while they are pushed in a direction doesn't work very well, which makes sprinting harder in shooters for example.

How do you deal with stuck screws? I've tried opening some of my stuff before but even with the correct screwhead sometimes I end up stripping the screws, and because they're so small I can't do much afterwards
@Tronicsfix
@Tronicsfix 3 жыл бұрын
You have to put a lot of pressure downward when unscrewing. If you are using the right size and they still strip then you likely need to buy better quality tools.

Hey. Great video. Thanks for that. Have you ever came across vibration issues with dualshock 4 controllers? Mine has the right side vibration motor/rotor rotating too loudly and I think out of time. Thanks and thanks for the cannel/videos

I’m not a fan of hot air for through board component R&R. An iron and solder sucker is the best solution. Way less heat and collateral damage.
@Tronicsfix
@Tronicsfix 3 жыл бұрын
You just have to be a little more careful. The amount of heat won't hurt anything if you're careful with what you're doing.

I am glad this video showed up on my feed. My sister has a PS4 controller that has a drift issue. Seeing this, I know that once I either get the part or find a busted PS4 controller, I can possibly fix it. :D

I really don't remember. This was filmed weeks ago. I do remember that that part of the solder mask came off much easier than it should have...maybe the effect of liquid damage. I think maybe wit pliers.

I just like these videos. Brings me to the time in 90's when I was in school for light voltage electronics where we fixed TV's and vcr's and amplifiers. And that was the time for 386 and 486 computers and intel 486 sx25 was the first computer that I changed cpu to 486 DX66. And AMD K6 300 was the first computer that I build with my own hands from pieces.

You do absolutely awesome repairs! But I can't help but think there must be ways to buy defective units of anything in bulk cheaper than what you're paying. You should be making much much more money!
@Tronicsfix
@Tronicsfix 3 жыл бұрын
I don't always buy broken stuff to try and make money. Right now everything is more expensive. Most people that brag in the comments section about how cheap they got theirs are buying fake controllers. Look at the prices on eBay. That'll show you what they're going for.

Regarding number 7: there is a really easy fix for a problem when joystick behaves in a way shown (having issues when being pushed at exact opposite directions). You simply need to replace one of the two round metal contact pads beneath green plastic covers at the side of a joystick (one is at the top, the other to the left).

Looking for an answer for this also, I have one of the newer version controls with the light bar on the touch pad. My left does not work. Its was only used for 4 months. No water damage, never drop. Opened it up and everything is basically brand new.
