I Paid $25 for a BROKEN PS4 Controller - Copper Edition - No Power - Seller said the controller didn't power on at all so the first thing I checked was the charge port. The port had been bent out leaving a loose connection but that was only part of the problem. After replacing the charge port it still didn't work correctly so I tried replacing a chip on the motherboard that connects directly to the charge port. Luckily, replacing the chip did the trick and after that I just needed to give everything a good cleaning and put it all back together.

About This Video: I paid about $25 for a copper edition PS4 controller that the seller said wouldn't power on. After testing a few things and taking the controller apart I discovered that not only was the charge port faulty, but a chip on the motherboard needed to be replaced as well. I also found a lot of gunk that needed to be cleaned from around the buttons, etc. so the controller would work correctly again.

Im so glad the usb port is so easy to change, I had to change it on my controller and I paid barely anything for a replacement on ebay and its worked perfect since. For anyone looking for a fix, who doesn't have the soldering skills required in this one: assuming the controller works with a battery that's charged up, you can bypass the charging circuit by using a TP4056 battery charger directly to the battery, using the existing USB port as a power source. I did this method on my own PS4 controller, it works just fine, when you connect the USB cable the controller charges up normally. The only thing is that it doesn't work as a wired controller, and you need to sync it up in the PS4 settings.

That chip probably just needed a reflow, I've done it a few times. The cheap lead-free solder cracks with the heat of the battery charging when people plug their controllers into a wall charger instead of using the console to charge. That other charge port would probably be fixed by just squeezing it with pliers to make it tighter.

I decided to exclude charging port and ribbon cable issues so I took apart my other old DS4 and imagine my surprise when after I reassembled that one it no longer connects or charges either. Both work and connect via Bluetooth but USB is completely dead. The fact that I have no idea what did it and that I lost two perfectly working controllers in one evening is driving me nuts.

Is it me or have the "faulty" product sales prices gone up for loads of stuff since lockdown? Seems people are starting to try and fix things now. Good for the environment, bad for my pocket haha! Another excellent job @tronicsfix

Is there any way to learn how to do these type of repairs that you do? Like any type of formal training. Where did you learn to do it. Love the videos man

I see more disadvantages of that ridge compared to a wallet with the main 1 being no storage for receipts, so where do you store your receipt for that PS5 you've pre ordered? I'll never understand the allure of 1 tbh. Getting back on track awesome video :)

I don't store receipts. In fact I quite dislike receipts! YES! I'll be getting the PS5 as soon as I can.

@@Tronicsfix but what happens if a item you purchased is faulty or breaks and needs returning? without a receipt that becomes rather difficult. I still have receipts for my ps4 and 3ds cuz I like knowing how long I've had them for :) some receipts are stored in a folder too though :)

Somehow, watching your videos, I get this feeling that I might be able to buy broken controllers and repair them myself. 2 out of my 3 ps2 controllers failed though, so i think i won't try to tackle the "half of the buttons don't work" any time soon again. Srly though, quarantine is making me take apart our old and broken electronics and try to fix them... (Well, walkman works again, ps3 is quiet again, one ps2 controller finally doesn't have a turning joystick anymore, and I took my ps2 apart to get a tiny piece of paper out I mistakingly dropped in there when trying to "mod" it at age 11 or 12... So, has been successful, didn't fix everything, but didn't break anything any more than it already was either)

Wish I saw this video before I took my PS4 Controller apart to clean it. Though it all went back together and no issues to this day *knock on wood*. Had a little bit of a spill with some soda. The liquid did not reach the motherboard but that circle button. Man. You need the strength of an Ape to push it down before I cleaned it lol.
