I Bought 3 "USED" PS5 controllers From GameStop - Look What I Found! GameStop says these 3 used PS5 controllers are "quality pre-owned" but we'll be the judge of that. I'll be testing the buttons and thumb sticks and then opening them each up to see what the insides look like and if there is anything unexpected... or missing.

I work for Gamestop, the small square stickers on the controllers indicate that they have been torn down and inspected/repaired and by who. There isn't a difference in our system between a "refurbished" and pre-owned controller, unlike our consoles.

I think all large companies need to randomly quality check the employees from time to time, especially if they have a quota, mainly because we are all human. Great video as always, maybe your videos will become training tools for Gamestop.

In my experience the thumb stick controllers with the orange Resistors work better then the original ones - especially when pressing down the Stick. I did replace several of the original ones with the orange type and found that they are also more reliable in the long run.

First controller has sticker outside with 311, the inner board has 311 written by Sharpie... Some repair techs mark their work to ensure its completed. This may been repaired by GS.

10$ to me isn't enough to justify that i don't know what the previous owner has done with the controller. If it had been cleaned i'd be willing to pay 30$ to 40$ for it depending on how used it is.

I actually buy quite a few Dualsense controllers to customize and resell. I've received at least one brand new one with the orange analog sticks, so those are being used at some factory.

The senders address is "returns" because if your package cannot be delivered it is returned to the sender, which then conveniently is "returns". Most major companies have adopted this by now

First 2 controllers went through the warehouse, 3rd did not. The companies gamestop have used in the past to refurb have been "meh" and some stores just dont clean their traded in stuff. As a former employee, the stuff I used to see from other stores was ATROCIOUS.

It blows my mind that people have used their PS5 controllers so much in a year or less that the texture on the thumb sticks is already wearing down. I’ve owned a PS5 since launch and my controllers still look fairly new. Now i haven’t played it every day or anything but I’ve also used it quite a bit. People are just so hard on stuff.

The sticks can wear down pretty fast when they get used a lot. My white one which came with my PS5 the sticks are pretty worn, textures almost gone. My Black one still looks new.

I work at a smaller gamestop where the pre owned stuff sometimes just isn’t cleaned. We can’t open them or anything so that’s probably where the last controller came from.

The stickers on that controller mean it’s been tested or refurbished by the warehouse. Those stickers actually represent who worked on that controller. This also means it was returned or traded in as defective which means it should have gone thru a full test at the warehouse. Their repair department is still disappointing. Although they also don’t pay their repair team very much.

the return address is always the returns department. Shipped items are shipped from a store from they inventory they have. Last week I bought a game from them, shipped from VA, the shipping label had the address in Grapevine, Tx

I feel like they price them this way so people will think that they must be like new. I mean, why else would they be so similar to the price of a new controller? If they were half off people might not want to risk buying something that might have problems. I feel like the price point itself is an attempt to mislead consumers... but I guess that's Gamestop's way.

I have the original dualsense controllers, both of them have the orange potentiometers in them from the factory. I've still not had any issues with stick drift so I'm not sure if they are inferior.

So coming from GameStop employee we are supposed to always test on the tv pad if it doesn't work we can't take it unfortunately we don't have a way to test for the speaker or anything deep inside. either way always a pleasure to watch all of your repair videos

Whenever I have issues with controllers that are out of warranty. I take them to GameStop. They'll buy any controller and everyone I take normally has drift. They've never not taken one.

@@bunniemunch123 they all still worked but they all have drift on the joysticks. Some had sticky buttons. I got into the habit of instantly selling any that started to have drift issues of any kind. So it was never really bad. Other stores similar to gamestop have refused them and GameStop still took them. I was given a couple of old Xbox 360 controllers years ago. They were missing the battery packs and had clearly been chewed up by a dog and they took both of them. They even replaced the battery holder with ones they had in the back. It's why I never buy used controllers. Also as far as I can remember they tested everyone I have sold them.

I traded in some broken controllers to gamestop. They actually give you a decent amount of store credit for something you'd otherwise keep only for parts. I brought a controller in once that had about 1/3 of a CM of stick drift, and the employee said that would be considered "good". It looked like most of yours were pretty good.

i dont know about the US but in the UK most retailers made you buy bundles to get a console that included extra controllers etc, so over here there are hundreds of brand new traded and in and sold so called used pads for sale but there all actually brand new in box,

Alps does sell a newer version of the analog stick that has black or grey pots on the sides instead of green but I'm pretty sure the yellow/orange ones are made-in-china brand... If you find that you can't calibrate the sticks center point properly and there is too much drift you can add a small multi-turn potentiometer in parallel with the pots on the analog stick and adjust them until the signal in game is centered and without drift, but it is difficult to adjust with the controller apart. I added some adjustable pots to Xbox controllers before and hot glued them in an area where I could adjust them through the slots in the case you see with the side plates off and it works well. But note that this method won't fix scratchy or worn out pots, it only adjusts the center drift...

Ugh... the sanding, hand gunk in the joints of everything, liquid damage, this is why I never buy used from GameStop. Odin forbid they actually properly clean them. Great vid as always!

When you test the triggers, does it active the adaptive feature? Could be another factor wrong with them.

Gamepad tester will test adaptive… usually on a regular trigger you get a “1” for on and 0 for off… for the adaptive triggers it’s a gradient from 0-1 depending on how hard u preas

On the first controller the left analogue stick doesn't have a section on the left side also. When you open the second controller you can see a plastic part on each of the sides of the analogue stick. Sorry I'm not sure what this part is called.

30-35 bucks i would pay for a second hand dualsense, and you have to be lucky to get one that is decent on the inside, the outside you can clean pretty easially

I wouldn't read too much into the shipping label address. A lot of ecommerce use their returns department as the return address not because that's where it came from but because if it isn't delivered it has to go to their returns department for processing.

A GameStop a couple of towns over was being liquidated and I got a lot of games on the cheap there, sadly the only time GameStop gives the customer a deal is when they are closing the store down for good.
