@@reginarazo I have heard that vintage patterns are notoriously difficult (reprint or not) for beginning sewers. They use things that are considered dated in terms of construction techniques taught now and often rely on the person sewing to have some knowledge imbued. I'm more curious as to someone like Ms. Clayton, myself, or another vintage pattern veteran who has knowledge and experience in this type of sewing (and is willing to purchase the original, since I'm not about to given that I got 8462 for only $1 lol) comparing the original to the reprint, to see if it has been altered to more than just the modern block pattern Simplicty uses.

@@natrajkumari It looks really similar. I've made the blouse so far and, except for making the wrong size (that way my fault) it was pretty easy in terms of construction. I'm thinking of making another blouse in one size larger to see how that goes. I'm also going to try making the skirt as well so we'll see how that goes. I'm a high-medium level sewer, though.

Hi, Angela. My mom used to love sewing for me and my sisters when we were little girls. After we grew up, she would sew little dresses and aprons and such for neighborhood kids just for fun. Perhaps it'd be a personal morale booster for yourself to do the same with some of these adorable kids' patterns. :)

I'm a quarter of the way in and fully planning to watch all of this, I find these videos SO informative! And the text that is stamped on the pattern at 12:00 is actually super exciting to me! I don't know if this has been mentioned before in the comments but that is the stamp they used during WWII to indicate that a pattern did not comply with fabric rationing regulations! It's stamped on the long version of the dress because the skirt would have used up too much fabric for Canadian rationing whereas in the US the same regulations had not come into effect.

2:04 - upper right, the shell pattern. My Aunt Charlotte, who was an excellent seamstress, had that pattern. I had a fashion doll that looked like the drawing in the lower left corner and my aunt made my mother a shell and a matching one for my doll. I thought that was the most amazing thing in the world. There was also a skirt pattern that she had for a pencil skirt with a walking pleat and a boxy short jacket. I'm going to watch to see if those show up in your haul.

Wonderful patterns. When I use my Mom's patterns from the 1940s-1970s, I ignore the size and go by measurements on the envelope. After pressing out the creases, I pin the pattern over my undergarments (allowing for ease). If I have to size up (or down), I'm not good with math, I use a similar style pattern in my size to trace out a new pattern in freezer paper/gift wrap. My daughter and I have been using the various hat patterns in different fabric. Fuzzy hats(?) Lol

Yeah, I watched the whole thing (not all in one go, though). I love pattern hauls, from any era or brand, because they can be so inspirational. You never know when you'll see something and go "Yes! I need that pattern!" or maybe "Hey! I have a pattern just like that, but hadn't given it much thought until now." It's also fun to see how trends come around again every few decades (like that "cold shoulder" on the 1930's gown). --- Chubby Girls ain't gettin' no love! Makes zero sense, considering how voluminous most all of the dresses were. Like, were they worried that someone might confuse a chubby 5-year-old in a big dress to be a very very short pregnant woman?! And what the hell are chubby girls supposed to wear!?

The pattern at 11:45 with the stamp is from the Canadian Wartime Prices and Trade board stating that this patterns fabric usage was contrary to current war rationing efforts. The board existed from 1941-1947, it might be safe to assume this was stamped because it was still on store shelves, which gives you a great way to date it! (and might also explain why its never been used!)

I love watching these videos! You inspired me to collect and possibly sell vintage patterns. I also check your shop a lot and plan to buy patterns for my daughter, but they always sell before payday! One day, haha.

So many of the really nice ones, if framed, would make great sewing room decor!

I would love to have the plus size patterns. It's really hard to find even reprints in my size.

Bonita Granville also played Nancy Drew, just as a point of interest. That was quite the haul! I’m going to be checking your pattern listings and may get some of the size 6- 8 kids’ ones for my triplets and bonus if I can afford them. There were so many cute patterns for kids! They rarely have sizes that would fit me, or even be easily upsized, but the kids’ sizes should fit them in the near future.

the one with the funny dolman/raglan is i think called a saddle shoulder. ohhh my mother had a version of that smock pattern, she called it her hatching jacket, she wore it when she was pregnant.
