This video is fun to look back on - it was filmed a month or two ago, and at the time 60 pattern seemed like a lot. Almost half the amount in my personal collection! But since filming I have acquired....oh, about 1000. More than half of which that came from the same estate. So if you would be interested in seeing more pattern hauls, let me know, because I have SO MANY OF THEM!

How do you find this stuff?! Seems like i cant find the cool stuff you do. Im very interested in 1800s thru about 1920. Im not interested in drag, sooo its sort of all for nothing. Haha!

I love this video. So with patterns that are way too small for you but which you love, would you ever go looking for a better size, or is that too much to ask with vintage patterns?

I inherited 3 large boxes of my grandmum & mum's patterns spanning the 1920's - 1970's. 644 not counting the hand drawn copies. My grandmum was a seamstress & never cut out the pattern pieces - she would hand copy them to use to cut out her fabric. I think that was because she would enlarge or reduce to suit the size she needed for her clients. My mum learned from her & although she only sewed for herself & family she always made copies of her patterns also. I also have several hand drafted patterns of my greatgrandmum's - 2 are definitely from the Gibson girl era. I spent 5 years cataloging each pattern & storing them in acid free packing. That was 25 years ago! I've used some of the pattern copies at times in my life to make clothing for myself. My family keeps telling me to sell the collection to a sewing school but.. eh, maybe after I die. It's one of those sentimental joyful heart strings things. My fondest memories were time spent with my grandmum & mum while they sewed. I would hand sew clothes with fabric from the scrap basket for my dolls sitting on the floor beside them. Wonderful memories.

Hi. Possibly reconsider selling them if your family isn't intrested and pass along the stories to someone who is. Or do the extra research and documentation of your family history and memories and specifics of where /how to sell them. I work with the elderly and so many families don't care for grandmas stuff and I , a stranger,, get the stories and they dont. What I meant also was so your family will have the history and maybe decide to keep the collection and take up sewing.

My grandmother and I were watching this together when the comment was made about what happened to the envelope, she said that when a pattern was discontinued, they had to take the insides out and ship the envelopes back. She's been a seamstress since she was a young girl in the '40s, making her own and her siblings clothes, and that continued on to my mom and her siblings, and me and my brother and cousins, and now her great-grandkids. She also worked at various fabric stores over the years. Super interesting to pick her brain about my love for vintage clothing, which she made and wore when it was new! Thanks so much for sharing this haul. Fun bonding moment with my grandma!

I've bought a ton of vintage patterns on ebay over the last couple of months. I'm having a really hard time grading the patterns up to fit my size. There doesn't seem to be enough streamline videos on youtube about this. It would be amazing if you could take a vintage pattern and grade it up and post it for everyone it would be so helpful! Thanks for sharing xoxo

Do a Google search. Just did a quick search and found multiple websites with advice on resizing patterns.

Yes! I've followed guidance from a few articles (ranging from "add half an inch to each vertical seam" to "use a personal sloper to franken-draft the pattern"), and it always takes several tries and a lot of fitting. I feel like there are some missing steps in those articles that are probably really obvious to people who have either formal training or buckets of experience.

A year ago I had my wedding make up trial done and in the same group of buildings there was an antique shop. I felt pretty ridiculous shopping in a full face of make up but I found a huge box of vintage patterns for $90. A lot weren't my size and a bunch were in German so I restrained myself and bought 2 patterns from the '60's for $3 each! I actually made one of the dresses and I feel like I'm in Mad Men when I wear it : )

Awesome. This could be my mother's pattern collection: there are three (maybe four) in your lot that she had. We still have them; my sister and I split them between us and we're not letting go of them. There is quite a bit of envelope damage on some of them, but of the ones I took only one is missing a piece: an undercollar for a dress, and it would be dead easy to draft.

I'm a learning Seamstress from Germany and most of my friends don't sew, so I'm getting most of grandma's sewing patterns. I really treasure those because of the history of them. Most of the time I can't tell from which era they are since most of them are from thick handcraft books and none of them have a year written in it.

This was very fun to watch. Who doesn't like vintage patterns? I have a few myself that I want to make but they are drastically too small but I think I'll do it anyway in the size they come in just to get the practise. I could see you putting a few of these together as is to sell the finished pieces. I just don't know if you would find that worth your time.

Nice start! Vintage pattern selling is such fun, but you do have to be careful because the desire to keep all the pretties is STRONG! I have been selling for over 10 years and have managed to limit myself to keeping one per box. Which is a bit easier on most boxes, until I find an entire box of patterns my size (bust 42-46). Then it is like pulling teeth to only keep one.

This is one of the very few types of haul videos I enjoy, the sort involving items the person knows and cares about, with some insight into why the haul happened, so it's more like a vlog, but with firmer purpose. I'd be interested in how you price and package what you end up selling. I guess that's like an un-haul, really.

The Vogue American Designer patterns, using that font and colours, were late 1970s to the early1980s. Some of them lasted a long time, and (with no font or colour changes) were in the catalogue until the early 1990s - one design from Edith Head comes to mind. Your sewing skills, from what I've seen, are more than sufficient for you to take up grading. By that I mean you know enough about what's going on with cut and fit. I discovered the Sew/Fit Manual back in the 1980s, and one of the authors, Nancy Zieman, produced her own book in the 1990s. Zieman's book is much less technical but no less effective. It is absolutely worth checking out: you could grade up all the vintage patterns you love but are the wrong size on new paper with more time than effort.

This video was so fun !!! I recognized the Simplicity 5834 pattern because the model in pink is Marie Osmond. She designed patterns for Simplicity at one time. This might be worth something for Marie Osmond fans. I'm giving away my age, but I was a huge Donny and Marie fan back in the day. Actually, I still am...lol

Great content. I did not know that there were other people who also are fascinated by vintage patterns. More videos like this, please.
