Hank, I just tried to look at the website to see if they have pictures of this bucket to see how far it should open. There is no website anymore. Then, I found a Facebook page for JCT attachments brush cutter owners. They talk about a lot of different implements, not only brush cutters. They say there is no warranty because JCT won't return any emails, and the phone number doesn't work. There was one person that I saw that had the 4 in 1 bucket, and he said it only opened a 1/4 of the way. I'd try to return the bucket if you can. God bless you!

I would really be bummed about that. I would not be happy especially the gap when the bucket was closed and the connections you should not have had to deal with that. I would at least let Wayne know so that he has an understanding about that brand or maybe he knows something you may not. Good video as usual Hank!

In Australia almost all our tractors come with a 4in1 bucket even the big brands. I would say there is an air lock somewhere in those cylinders causing it to not function properly should open way more mine goes just past 90°from the bucket face and should have far more clamping force mine will clamp harder on a log than my tym t265 will handle in lift capacity .they can flex a little and catch the side walls closing which can stop closing fully but a bump from the inside usually sorts that out but thats not common im just used to much heavier equipment at work and forget the limits of smaller equipment sometimes lol

Yeah, I actually took the hoses off and tried to compress the cylinder with no hoses connected to them and couldnt get it to work. I traded it in on another implement. That video is out soon. Thanks for watching

Thanks for another video Hank. I don’t have a comment really. I don’t quite follow you on what you wanted the new type bucket to do exactly. I do agree with you that it is too heavy for your current tractor. Would like to see it operate on your skid steer before passing judgement. Two things I noticed. One. The hydraulic cylinder on the new bucket seems to have a very short throw on it. Would a cylinder with a bigger throw on it open the jaws more. Of course new cylinders are not cheap. Second. Could the hydraulic system you have not be strong enough or AIR in the lines. ??? I don’t know the answer that is for sure. Just suggestions. Don’t know what to tell you. Most buckets I have seen do open far wider than that. BUT it appears the hydraulic cylinder only has a short throw to it, thus only allows so much movement. Thanks Hank. Sorry you are not pleased with it. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

To me it looks the rams on both cylinders should allow the bucket to open more. My thoughts are 1) it still had air in the system and needs to be cycled quite a bit more. 2) That bucket was not designed nor built to be used on a tractor (at least not one that size), so it may need either more hydraulic flow and/or more pressure to work correctly. This may be why the gap is so big also.

Looks like there is plenty of cylinder rod left to go in. Something is blocking it from opening all the way. I would look into that by first disconnecting the cylinders and seeing how wide it will open then I would open one of those cylinders to see if there is some kind of block in there.

I agree with your disappointment with the bucket. My 4 in 1 bucket has twice the opening capacity that this bucket has. As soon as I saw your hydraulic hoses I knew that was going to be a problem with your quick connect. I have the same quick connect on my bobcat and there can be some issues with it occasionally.

It looks like there may still be air in the cylinders. Did you lift it all the way up and curl it all the way down to see if gravity would help open further? Second, never heard your tractor above idle. Is the bucket and cylinder combo too heavy at low rpm that it doesn’t have enough flow or pressure to fully open? I know my third function kit can open my big grapple, but it works better at higher rpm and hydraulic flow. If you kick it up, does that help?
@RYAN-nd8bv

Just from watching it open and the gap when closed. Plus the fact you said it didn't look like it had ever been greased. My guess is one of the pins in the hinge or cylinder end is either stuck or sticky. Causing it to not open or close all the way. The side not closing all the way is probably the problem child. I would remove all of the pins one at a time and inspect. Before you twist it. As for the hoses take the cover plate off that they are mounted in if they are hose then maybe flip the plate over and relocate to the bottom. Looks like a good unit just needs TLC.

Quick google search showed the grapple definitely opens wider on better models, and there didnt seem to be a square edge on that thing you bought. My opinion, ya oughta return it and try again.

My Kubota MX5200 came with a 4 in 1 bucket. It’s a Kubota branded bucket. The bucket is tough and strong. I’ve never used a grapple so I can’t compare. I’d imagine the grapple is much better at grabbing stuff. However I like the bucket in that it can do a few different tasks. As the tractor, loader and bucket are all Kubota built, they all work well together. It could be worth a try to get this bucket working on your skid steer loader.

Hello Hank From Kentucky. We had very limited numbers of the “Clamshell” buckets as some people referred to them as when I worked within KYTC Equipment Section. The buckets that we had were on the Case 4wd backhoes, But they were not all that well received by our operators. As you would imagine, The clamshell on the Case backhoes were very heavily constructed and would probably be most suitable for loading loose materials like dga gravel or the rock salt that was used to treat the roads. Unfortunately, I never personally got to play around with any of these types of buckets when I was directly involved with snow & ice operations. For loading the salt, We mostly used John Deere front end loaders which had the electronic scales which got the reading through the weight of the bucket plus the material against the hydraulic system and very rarely ever used the backhoes unless a front end loader broke down. Pretty much, Our operators used the buckets as you would use a conventional bucket. Wish I had some better news for you.

Part of my EDC pocket carry is a Leatherman Super Tool. I love it. It's needlnose, it's wire snippers, a pocket knife, a saw, Philips and flat head screwdrivers ... it does many jobs ... half assed. A 4 in 1 is kinda the same, it won't do any of the 4 jobs right, but it will do them all ... let's just call it barely adequately.

Can you re-locate the hydraulic lines to a different spot to fit the skid steer. With that big of a bucket you might have to put a counter weight on the tractor.

That bucket is pretty poorly made in the first place, wouldn't waste my time modifying it...I'd take the thing back and get my money back honestly. The thing doesn't close like it should, so you couldn't really use it as a bucket without leaving a trail of whatever you are trying to move.

I have a WRLong for my Yanmar YT347. I'm a big fan of it (also had one on my 416B cat rubber tire backhoe- which I sold) and it's probably too heavy for my tractor as well.... but opens much more than that thing. Mine has built -in T-rods that act as stops to keep it from opening too far but I have at least a 30+ inch opening. Yours is wack, and I wouldn't live with it. Impossible to pick up anything, or Doze (as you mentioned). Defeats the whole purpose to be honest.

That bucket should open at least to a 90deg angle or you lose half it's functionality. That gap on close is pretty horrible as well. You'll lose a lot of fine material through that gap if you're transporting it any distance.

I'd say your issue is you bought the cheapest one you could find new. I've never used a 4 in 1 bucket I wasn't happy with and I've used them on tractors, skid steers, and backhoes. Find a decent one with good reviews from a reputable company and I think you'll be a lot happier with it.
