We always have used seven dust or spray. My grandpa used it and lived 94 years. I'm about 62 years old and have always used it. My dad used it and lived 84 years. No health problems or side effects. Food from China has been sprayed with no telling what. DDT is still being used there. That's why I like to grow what I eat, if I can.

The best way to get rid of bugs and contol them is to put up bluebird boxes. They will have three sets of babies and constantly feedon bugs. There are numerous sites that will give you all the details. I have a bluebird trail in Stone Harrison and Hancock County with about 150 boxes. Have fun and stay safe!

18 years ago I was living on a 60 acre plot on Sugarloaf Mtn west of Boulder CO. There were volunteer peas from gold miners back in the day growing on both sides of a small rivulet. As the peas ripened thousands of mice and pack rats moved in annually to feed. Then dozens of coyotes would move in to feed on the mice and rats, they looked like popcorn popping in a pan as they pounced at dawn. Rock on Wallace clan!

For cabbage worms, we use a mixture of 2 parts white flour and 1 part salt. Sprinkle on the plants. Worms will eat it and get a bad tummy ache. Works for both cabbage and broccoli.

Biodegradable dish soap is generally considered safe for use in the garden to control insect damage. Here’s why: Insecticidal Soaps: These soaps are specifically designed to target insects while being safe for plants, humans, and beneficial insects. They break down quickly without leaving harmful residues, making them environmentally friendly. Biodegradable dish soap shares similar properties with insecticidal soaps, making it a viable alternative1.

Those that you called peas that weren't climbing looked very much like Burrer Beans from what I could tell. Another thing, don't plant your tomatoes near Zucenni or Cucumbers because they will take on the taste and not taste like tomatoes. Bruce Howard, MG (Quitman, Mississippi)

You should check out the book carrots love tomatoes which is a guide on companion planting. You should also consider doing raised beds for square foot gardening. You can plan more in a smaller space. Roses love onions is a good one as well. There are several reasons for companion planting, saving space, bug control to name two. We also used hay to put around our plants to keep the weeds down. I assume you could use sawdust as well, but might not be as effective. That way the weeds are not robbing nutrients from the soil... just a few suggestions!

English peas. My parents used to say that they were One mess to eat, one mess to clean up. Just gets too hot in Mississippi too quickly. I hope your contenders don't get burned by the heat that is sure to come in June. Some years we've had them produce into July down here in South Mississippi, but it helps if we get some good rains. Hope the dang squash borers don't kill your squashes. There are some varieties that are more resistant (like the winter squashes), but once you get them, they tend to come back if you plant squash in the same spot each year.

Bt is what you want for the broccoli and cabbage and all related. It's a natural occuring bacteria that affects the gut of caterpillar. When the worms eat it they die, you'll probably need to do about once a week, depending on how much rain you get

Companion Plants To Avoid Growing Near Tomatoes Brassicas. Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, and kohlrabi can stunt the growth of your tomato plant because they out-compete them for the same nutrients.

U guys can teach saw mill operation very well. However any one watching must also be concerned about the lack of safety protocols. I get single operator mills in rural areas have different standards than large sawmill but the basics arent even demonstrated. Besides hearing protection, do u not wish to protect yrself at all? Edgers are one of the most dangerous machines. Sunglasses arent safety glasses. Running shoes arent safety boots. And ball caps arent hard hats. T shirts arent work sheets. Pls set a better example before an accident happens. Your kids will appreciate that.
