I bought one a year ago and my reasoning is that if you can consistently chip with a 72 you can chip with anything. I wouldn't agree with the comment he's reading at the start that this is done "with ease", you need to have proper technique to get good contact with this and be very accurate. What would be a slight mis-hit with a 56 degree (but will likely run on to be decent) would be a blade with this, or even whiffing right under it is very easy to do with even a few centimeters of fluffy lie.

If you’re a few metres from the green and especially on a downhill this wedge is so useful. You can stop it on a dime with the amount of spin. Just need to practise because it needs more of a swing then usual wedges. I love my 60 but I use this when around the green. Do not use in a fluffy lye

I have several silly clubs like this, I play around with them in the back yard, what's weird is that they make it easier to play my "normal" wedges (50, 54, 60) it makes u appreciate the bounce and weight of premium wedges Great video!!!

Although I haven't touched it in years, I have a Feel 73* wedge in my garage. I don't think this wedge is intended for chipping like you started out with. In that situation just about any other club in your bag would do better. Best use of this would be when you have short sided yourself and have a bunker between you and the green. I kept waiting for you to try that. But having said that, I agree with you that most players do not need this in your bag. Its fun to take out to the practice area and monkey around with, but on the course, it would create more problems than it can solve.

I think its quite a good idea weirdly. My issue with chipping isn't thinning it or thicking it, it's keeping the toe down and keeping the club face pointing at target. But that makes opening the cub face up quite scary.

What about that shot out of the rough where the pin is five feet from the fringe and if you hit it past it runs off the green. Or when you really need to stop the ball. Put it in your bag for a half dozen rounds so you can get used to it and give it a real test.

Tbh I don’t think it’s that bad for a 3rd wedge. Really good for downhill chips near the green, especially tight lies. I use my 60 for most everything near the green tho

I love this club. When I hit it full with some de-lofting relative to my normal swing It will go 50 metres with a very steep down angle on landing. It holds a green like nothing else. I like it best from wet bunkers and tough lies around greens. I work the ball with this club from 40 metres in. This is a phenomenal club. Like any club you need to practice. I needed to add 2 inches in club length and 2 deg up in lie to suit my swing.(6'2" tall ,wide shoulders long legs and short arms.) I love the club and I play it in local comps all the time.

Long ago, when I was building myself a bag, I bought a wedge set from Bombtech Golf; it came with a 52, a 56, and a 60, and as bonus, they threw in a 72. I took it to the range just to see what it was like, and it scared me! At the range, it felt like, with every swing, the ball was going to hit me in the face (just as you thought)- the ball seemed like it was coming straight up! Needless to say, it never made the bag. That said, as manufacturers make irons stronger and stronger, it makes sense that people add wedges to the bottom end of the bag.

A friend of mine has a 76º wedge that he uses for almost every shot around the greens. It's an absolute bloodbath. Takes a full swing with it from wherever he is and tries to fly it to the hole. Doesn't matter what kind of lie he has or how much green he has to work with - nope - full Phil every time. Needless to say, it does not work. Most often he thins it 50 yards past the green. The other option is he hits down on it, catches it super fat, and chunks half of the golf course onto the green while the ball moves about three feet. And then he refuses to clean all the grass and dirt off the green. I say friend...he's really more of an acquaintance. It's the same problem that 99% of amateurs have with a 60º wedge, only greatly magnified. The average golfer shouldn't be allowed anything higher than 52º.

1 con i see is if people tend to blade their chips because the club is hitting with leading edge instead of getting under the ball which is my issue with chips off fairway. i would be fine with adding more swing because short small swings throw me off. id go with a chipper club vs this.

I have a 64 degree Cleveland cbx which I use for the same reasons, flop shots and bunker shots without setup changes and, I'm not kidding, I must use it once every 5 rounds if I'm lucky. You need this type of club so infrequently it's almost redundant, BUT when you shortside yourself behind a tree it makes you look like Phil Mickelson 😂 great video Matt 👍

I had a 64-degree wedge at one time, but felt it was totally unnecessary and was just taking up space in my bag. A slightly open-faced 60 degree wedge just seemed to work better out of any situation I would have used the 64 degree for.

I was gifted a 65 degree wedge. I've taken it out a few times, but it isn't as versatile as my 55 degree. The 55 I can hit from 80 yards out as well as from the sand, but the 65 is limited to about 45 yards. Yes it's easier to hit from bunkers, but I'd prefer full shots from within 100 yards, not 3/4 swings with a PW.

I will say that I feel like there is two kinds of amateurs: there are the ones that have trouble controlling how far they bring the club back so a club that intentionally punishes their distance would help and there's the kind that is really trying to improve and get better and is all about the control and stuff you're talking about. I'm in that middle ground where I'm trying to get better and I'm trying to gain confidence with my chipping. I'm thinking of adding a chipper but I also have a lob wedge 64°

Open the face! Last year I frequently fooled with a thick soled Lazrus 65 degree from the sand. It made the ball rise from the dead…on occasion. Pulled it out of a box in the garage last week for use on the chipping green trying to hit the ball out of deep rough. Bladed a shot off the clubhouse roof and acted like nothing happened after an employee picked up the bounding ball in the parking lot. Yep, stick with the 54.

I don't agree that it's pointless for full shots.... Imagine you shank a shot 40 yards right of the green on a par 3 and you have a bunch of trees and a bunker between you and the green... You can't play a chip and run under the trees, so your only options are to bail out back to the fairway or go over the trees. Normally, I would lay a wedge flat and attempt to flop over them in that scenario, probably thinning it and smashing the windows of the house on the other side of the green, but with this thing, you could address the ball normally, hit a full shot and tap in for par. Having said that, there must be a reason Titleist, TaylorMade et al don't make 72-degree wedges...

You say you were using half swings on those 12-15 yard shots but really you were coming back 3/4 of a swing . If a person concentrates more on the length of their swing and how far the ball goes they’d be more consistent…and that goes for any wedge ..actually any club…

See no reason for this club. Agree the issue for most amateurs is commitment on chips and bunker shots. Have to be even more committed if you are using that degree of loft. Heck, most mid handicap or higher golfers have issues with a 60 degree lob wedge. A gimmick club to be sure.

I disagree with you, Matt. You kept saying you have to have the right mindset to use this club, but you, yourself, never got to the right mindset. It sounded like you were thinking of this club as an addition to your 60-degree wedge. In my mind, it's not. It's a 60-degree replacement. In my bag, the 60-degree is a speciality club. Used rarely and only when I need to get the ball up fast (usually over something), and to get it to stop fast. For regular chipping and pitching, I'm using my 56-degree. The 72-degree, for my game anyway, sounds like a great club to replace my 60-degree. It would make the speciality shots even easier. My experience with most amateur golfers is they can't execute anything less than a full shot, so having a club were they can swing full from 35-yards out or in a bunker would, probably, help most of them. At the very least, I think it might help me, so I may give it a try. :)

I found this review a bit of a waste of time, no one is buying this club to chip around the green , most amateurs should be taught a chip and run and not a high tariff lob wedge from the fringe. I see this club for bunkers and chips over trees from 20-30 yards so really this is where it would help. I wish reviews were made for the type of player the club is made for not a KZbin Pro to find the issues with the club. Just my opinion.

The amount of amateurs that can even use a 60 degree appropriately is minuscule. These are sold to take advantage of the weekend golfer hoping to hit those super flops they see tour pros hit. Here’s a hint, you’re NOT a tour pro learn to hit a solid chip and hit a standard bunker shot with a 56 degree and you’ll be fine and drop more strokes than learning a flop shot that you would only use 2-3 times a year!
