@@sheppardpat47 Are you sure that they don't have the cabin air filter by fact?... Check the owner's manual, in there you can even learn on how to replace it. It is extremely rare a car that doesn't come with one, and Toyota or Daihatsu are no exception.

If you turn you 5L bottles sideways the fluid will flow out in a smooth stream, rather than glugging out as it does when you tip it in held upright. Makes a big difference and is much easier to pour also.

You could probably rent an upholstery cleaner from your local hardware store to see if you can get the seats and carpets a bit more presentable. The pattern looks fun so it would be a bit of a shame to cover them.

It's heartwarming seeing that little Toyota come back to life. It's clear that it had been neglected for a while; I'm pleasantly surprised that it's still in that good of shape mechanically, all things considered. Toyotas are really something else.

Apprentice Toyota mechanic here, definitely a well done job there, just letting you know I’d definitely recommend replacing the Cabin Air Filter. Judging by the original state of the interior, the filter would look the same. It’s just behind the glovebox where you remove a plastic cover held in by 1 or 2 clips, super easy to do and better air quality :)

House neighbours of my parents got a red Nissan Micra K12 and seem to care very lowly about it, it's not looking too dirty but the paint is beginning to fade and look dull compared to my A1 (also red and now almost 10 years old), in winter I don't drive through a car wash monthly but at least clean up bird poo soon and pressure wash it from time to time. But it doesn't make me wonder too much, they got a ton of empty cardboard boxes and other almost trash stuff in the attic and the upper two stairs (but they now reduced that because it's an obvious fire hazard). IMHO the car hasn't be to be too clean (washed engine bays are often suspicious) for sale but damn, give it a good clean outside and inside (so that it doesn't keep you from entering) and it can increase the value massively (I guess it usually gains more resale value than cost you had for the car wash and some cleaning stuff). It reminds me of Ratarossa, he got a Nissan Navara for very cheap in March of 2020 with a bunch of issues but especially the interior was literally contaminated... If it was used in a company, why didn't they pull out a trainee every few months and give him a vacuum cleaner or 2 Euros and drives it to a vacuum cleaner (here nearby me is a car wash and you pay just 1€ for the vacuum and can literally use it for unlimited time (the spots have like metal detectors in the tarmac so it shuts off when you're driving away)).

Some hints to people who got inspiration from this video: First of all, never spray any sort of cleaner straight to the area you are going to clean if you are not it's compatible. Spray it onto rag/cloth and test it in somewhere inconspicuous spot near the area. I have seen automotive interior cleaning stuff melt rubber coated buttons, smearing printed text and even causing color from the cloth to transfer into seat upholstery. Second thing. Use gloves when ever you are working with dirty oil, that stuff is really nasty on skin and it can cause rash on some people. Oil from diesel engine is even nastier... Safety goggles are also good thing to have when working with liquids under the car, or anything mechanical when there is risk of stuff flying around you. How about cabin air filter?

Totally. These cars are cheap, have cheap parts, easy to work on and can last quite a long time if kept maintained. Had one for about 22 years now and still going strong. Fuel economy is pretty good aswell.

@@vitonamous In my yaris I have never encountered any engine issues. I have had some issues with rust (expected with these older cars) you may encounter some on the used market with engine problems (very rare unless listed for parts) in the used market however parts are quite cheap.

I've got the same car (well, its one of my two). Honestly, its a reliable little runabout - and no matter how badly I treat it, I can't kill it - it just won't die. I've had it since about 2011 and its starting to show some problems - for example, the window regulators sometimes get stuck, and the boot latch sometimes doesn't work - but mechanically, its A1 - to the point that my local mechanic asked me if I was ever interested in selling. I said no. Its just too reliable to get rid of.

Really great vid! I’ve gone through a similar thing with an echo for my partner, and have recently got one for myself as a daily. The thing about ours is they are both a 1/3 known echo’s in Australia with LPG… takes “cheap to run” to a new level. They certainly do “keep on going”.

I just have a big sweet spot with these little Toyota echos . I had mine from junior year of high school all the way through college and my first three years at my I.T workplace and even tho my friends back then gave me shit for buying what they were calling "a beater shitbox" and they all had their parents buy them their cars I pulled my ass to buy mine for also 1500 bucks here in the US and it never let me down and gave me such a huge sense of freedom . I have a 2022 bronco sport and yeah I love it so dearly much so I had no use for my little echo so I gave it to my youngest cousin who got her driver's license not too long ago and with 201k miles in the odometer and such a detailed and meticulous history is service and care I reckon it'll go, just like Vanessa Carlton says "a thousand miles" more

this is such a reliable car! if you go into the engine, you should definitely clean the air flow sensor with cleaning spray and change the air filter. You will see a huge difference after that

There is one of these exact model Echo (Yaris for most the world) here in New Zealand that has done one million kms which is 621371.19 miles and it has never had any major repairs only maintenance done on it.

Hi! I just couldn't resist opening your video since I had the same car here in Europe, with manual gearbox, it had pretty much same bonnet problem a bit less than yours btw 😂 and way less kilometers, that was my first car and it was a very nice one for the means you've pointed out mainly! Very little maintenance was required with it. I kept it for 5 long years and I was a little sad when I swapped it for a brand new car. But I guess it was time. I'm happy they are still around, you're definitely going to enjoy it 😊

One of those relatively cheap Bissel spot clean wet vacs is really great for getting old seats looking near new again. Did this for a few of our old company utes before selling, had to do quite a few passes before the extracted liquid started looking less brown, but overall made an insane difference to both look and smell of the utes (one was a smokers ute), and made them a much easier sell.

Seats; STEAMER! I got a REALLY gross Fiat Panda and got the seats perfectly clean. A cheap steamer also doesn't cost much, and you will probably use it again in the future (great for removing wallpaper)

I had thr canadian version of this car, the echo. It was so quirky and after 13 years i replaced the rear struts and the handling improved vastly. Gets blown around on the freeway and had thin doors. Mine was spotless like new inside for 17 years, i loved it.

I have bought 2 BA Falcon one tonners this year, both of Facebook marketplace, both for roughly the same amount of money, and both of them have been cleaner inside than that car, and both of my utes were used by tradies. My first BA actually has around 650,000km on it and has been a tradesman’s Ute all its life and besides dog smell, and some dog hair, it is like a Rolls Royce compared to that!! My second BA is only a baby, she’s got 230,000km on her but it got it detailed as soon as I bought it because it was a smokers car. Had to put 3 little trees in it to get rid of the smell. Oh and btw, going by the look of that interior, I’d be swapping over cabin filters as well. No doubt it’s holding a large amount of stench.

I work as a pilot and have just gone into business for myself and the Barra was my first choice. They’re a little heavy on fuel, especially with the ute diff ratio, but I can claim what it burns anyway.

Hey, great video! I drove a Yaris for about 5 years. That replacement engine was definitely reconditioned, given NZ engines with high KMs burn oil due to the piston rings failing. Before it gets to winter, a quick little bit of advice I would give is that the foam seals on the rear lights tend to fail and lets rain pool around in the boot floor. Toyota sell a new revised gasket for this issue new, but if you apply a strip of silicone between where the light and the body meet that will also work just fine.

Great video! Plugs did look to bad, good to keep for spares. Also, I usually fill up my filter with oil to help the engine on start up, but only can be done if the filter is vertically upside down. Also, council and recycling depots can take the old oil and coolant too.

Very pleased to see this video as I bought a 2004 1.0 litre Yaris (in the UK) and with just over 200,000km on the clock it seems clapped out - yet my 2004 BMW with 530,000km on the clock still feels like new - but it's dead with an electrical fault ☹ Incidentally, the Yaris is also the preferred transport of many a food delivery driver here in the UK!

I've watched a couple of these videos now. When pouring from oil or coolant bottles, try pouring with the bottle sideways, it helps with the bottle 'glugging' and making a mess, also means you might not need the secondary pouring jugs - otherwise fun to watch and good production quality, keep it up

An Echo! I had a green one as a first car and drove it until the back axles rusted away. Loved that thing and even with 240k miles on it it was still getting fantastic fuel economy.

From 2000-20005 they are called Echo in Canada too. These cars are tanks! Reliable, fuel efficient, roomy, easy and cheap to repair. Probably the favorite car I ever owned, here cars will rust cars to death within 10-15 years on average.
