I bought this bike and love it. I also have a Honda XR650L and love that bike as well. Both bikes serve different needs. I agree that either the Honda or the Kawi 300's will make people happy. Either the Honda or the Kawi will disappoint if ridden too aggressively off-road. But if you just want a bike to go out and explore on, either the Honda or the KLX will more that satisfy. I love the little KLX but if it was Red, I no doubt would love it too for its intended purpose.

Went from a ktm390 to the klx300, and it was such a great decision, I have learned so much more off road and have become such a better rider. 🤘 -M

I have both, 2023 KTM390 Adventure and 2024 KLX and they are both great fun. They are each designed for different types of riding. To be honest I like my Suzuki DRZ400 the most simply because of the power, torque and fun factor.
@T30-z5w Жыл бұрын
I’ve had many bikes over the years, including several dual sport bikes. The Kawi and Honda are solid bikes but have limited power and need suspension mods for my liking. I’ve settled on a KTM 690 R as my heavy dual sport, a KTM 350 EXC-F as my light dual sport and a Beta 300 XTrainer as my tight trails dirt bike. I also have an middle weight adventure bike for mostly highway and some unpaved roads. I’ve done the one bike thing, I doesn’t work for me.

Awesome bikes. Got the 2018 KLX250. Definitely can't go wrong. Mines more street with a 15T front and shinko 705's at 24 psi and she'll cruise 70mph all day no problem. I'm also 5'11 and 180lbs with usually little to no carrying gear. I imagine the KLX300 would be more capable than the 250 from just the added displacement

I bought a 2020klx 250. Probably one of the last 250s, go t a deal because it was a demonstrator. I did the snorkle change and Delkevic slip on , hand guards, skid plate etc. I ride on the hyway quite a bit , so I put on a 15t front sprocket. Helps a little , doesn't seem to hurt the bottom end much. It's my first bike so it's hard to make any comparisons but I think it's great and am having a ton of fun with it.

Is mpg affected with tuner, slip on, and box/snorkle mods? I pick up a new 2023 next week. I will be putting in some big long days in the wilds, so mpg versus performance gain is a key consideration for me. Cheers!
@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures Жыл бұрын
Definitely. You’re adding more air so you need more fuel to maintain balance. I don’t know what my MPG is but it’s way worse than stock. I’d say I get maybe 60-70 miles from a full tank?

I haven't modded mine out yet, nor ridden it as much as you have but I agree with all of your points. It really is a great little bike and I've only seen one case (on KZbin) of someone having problems where they got rid of the bike. I'm betting that if their dealership knew what they were doing that guy would still be riding his KLX. I've got a KLR, a Pan America and you nailed those points as well. The KLX is like riding a magic mountain bike compared to the larger bikes. I gotta say, the Pan Am is amazingly decent for a big bike, (I'd take it over the KLR for every situation, unless money is an issue) but it's tall and picking it up isn't close to being as easy as the KLX.
@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures2 жыл бұрын
A buddy of mine had a KLR a few years ago and it was nice but I feel those particular bikes are more intended for road use with off road riding and bike camping as added benefits. Just like you, I have a big adventure bike and I have yet to find a better touring bike than it. I’ve done nearly 50k miles on my Triumph but it was miserable off road. Simply picking it up a couple times ruins my day. If there existed a perfect bike, I’d buy one and sell everything else but there isn’t. So I’ll keep the three bikes I own and ride each for the purpose it’s tended to serve. And I’ll smile the whole time I’m doing it!
@pinkiewerewolf2 жыл бұрын
@@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures I agree. An avid motorcyclist should have two bikes minimum and ideally three bikes to handle most situations.

No it doesn't. It has a "low fuel" indicator light.
@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures2 жыл бұрын
He’s correct, no gauge. I bitched at length about it in another video recently, LOL. But if I were you, I suffer with no fuel gauge and enjoy the superior suspension on the KLX over the CRF. They’re both great but I’d pick the Kawasaki every time.

It’s not too hard to have high quality with limited products! 🤣 I’ve got no beef with Yamaha it’s just that I’ve only ever owned 1 of their bikes, a Virago back in the 1990s. So they are the last name to ever cross my mind. But I’d argue Honda is better.

6000 MI between changes? Forreal? Not 600?
@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Yes, for real. The very first one is at 600 miles but every other oil change is schedule for 7,600 miles. I'd never do that myself but that's what the book says. Otherwise, if you don't ride it that far, you need to change the oil yearly. For the record, I change mine about once every 1,000 miles.

Torn between going cheap with this bike or double the cash for a crf450rl. I’m experienced and about 230lbs.
@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures2 жыл бұрын
The 450L is an intriguing bike but I don’t think it’s $13k intriguing. The maintenance schedule alone, which is more like that of a dedicated dirt bike, is not worth it for me. Even though it’s marketed like a dual sport, too little is similar to it. A 300cc bike is fine for a guy your size as long as you appreciate the bike’s limitations going in. The Kawasaki is a dual sport. A little under sprung for serious off road when you get up over 200 or so, imo. But at least the suspension is adjustable which is not true for the CRF300L. The 450 is better than it’s little brother.

Researching the KLX230 300 makes me want to get rid of my DRZ 400. The FI and 6th gear seem like a big improvement. Have you ridden a DRZ 400, if so, how does the KLX compare?

I have and I seem to recall the DRZ probably having more power but the carb turned me off.
@RupDawgs Жыл бұрын
I'm in the same boat...DRZ400s Owner looking to go KLX...mainly because I keep reading how nimble and light it FEELS vs the DRZ. I'm wondering if it will help my confidence in riding on the KLX300
@FloridaTwoWheelAdventures Жыл бұрын
The KLX is lighter for sure. As far as confidence goes, the DRZ is a fairly easy bike to ride although it’s heavier. If just being able to manipulate the bike with less effort is your desire, then the KLX would be good to you.
@tonyrichengod9280 Жыл бұрын
@@RupDawgs I’ve owned both KLX250 and DRZ400. Actually I sold the KLX in favor of the DRZ because it lacked power. DRZ is much more fun to ride , however the KLX is MUCH easier to ride. I will say though, that the KLX250/300 platform is BY FAR my favorite dual sport platform so far. So it depends on what you’re looking for. Don’t be put off by the carb on the DRZ because if you spend a little money on a SmartCarb or Lectron then you no longer have to worry about jet issues. In fact, if I were to buy another KLX, I’d probably eventually replace the FI with a SmartCarb for ultimate reliability.

Great dirt or gravel road bike, but it will get you into big trouble on true offroad or woods riding. Buy the KTM/Huskie or Beta dual sport and your bike will be less likely the cause of the crash, it will be you - not the bike. This Kawasaki trail-yacht is a fire road bike, something cheap you buy to follow your kid around the beginner trails on his new 50 he got for Christmas. This is like buying a Honda CRV/Toyota Rav4 with the intention to go out on Jeep trails. This bike will NOT "go anywhere", it will NOT "do anything." Stay on the fire road, stay out of the creek bed. Put a hitch hauler on your Truck/SUV, and put a bike on it that will get you back to the truck if you go offroad/woods riding.
