My 08 990 continues to be the best bike I've ever owned. From Pacific NW single track to Utah desert screaming....there is nothing that compares. A suspension refresh is smart...grab CJ Design's peg extenders and spin the chain on a 17/45 setup and you'll never regret it. If you like technical riding, you might opt for a throttle cam to smooth things out a bit when the trail gets tight and the drop-offs get scary. Have fun and welcome to the club.

If you are asking why 990 when Mario has 1290. You need to ride 990. Great bike on and off road, less electronics means easier to deal with off track. Great purchase.

Hi Mario . I have a 2008 adventure KTM . Still own it . A great bike in all respects . Changes .......replace rear spring . Much better with a 125 n.m. Softer , tracks and handles better for my weight 82 kg. Spring was 150 nm. Lowered the front forks 3 mm. 92000 KLM. Still going strong , road on and off. I have seen several with 150 000 and 200 000klm on the clock . Yes still going strong . Interesting to note the double tank was reintroduced on the 890 ADV . Low weight distribution and ease of handling . . PS . The original rear spring is for guys 100 to 110 kg. Every thing works better. Kev Australia.

I would definitely upgrade the fork springs to progressive ones for your weight, the front dives on bigger whoop out and bumps if ridden harder. Great bikes loved and miss mine.

Keep an eye on your oil and Coolant levels. Water pumps on the 950/990 tend to fail and mix up oil and coolant. Not a thing you want to happen, just fixed it up on my own 950. You will love this bike though Greetings from a Germany!

Nice, you've bought the very same model 990 that I owned for years before trading it on the same 1290 as you own. Great big dirt bike that does a surprisingly good job on the tar. Fuel consumption is not too flash and range is about 260 klms with some margin left. Valves never move unless the previous owners have spent all their time at the redline. Never had any issues except for a throttle position sensor failing. KTM won't sell you one though, they want you to buy new throttle bodies with everything attached. Low speed throttle response is a little snatchy. the batteries are not a fan of cold weather, a trickle charger is a must. I still miss mine, they are much sought after here in Australia and good ones still command big dollars. You'll have a lot of fun with it I'm sure. Love your vids. you were the deciding factor in my 1290 purchase, my ninth Kato.

@markj35173 жыл бұрын
@@kriskinsey64 Thanks Kris , I’ve not heard of that exhaust brand. A previous owner put Mivv end cans on my bike, they are loud enough with the baffles out to annoy me, but I no longer want to draw extra police attention anyway. The other possibility is that my bike often has to sit for long periods unused, so the crappy ethanol added petrol which is all you get now in Scotland could be clogging up the fuel system.

Hey sir just needing some advice. I have local to me a 2008 990 adventure identical to yours with 15k miles for $4000 and it is clean and at a dealership near me they have a 2018 1290 SAR with 31k miles $8,793 and it’s loaded with Rottweiler Goods. I’m 6’6” 265lbs 36” inseam. I have a 2004 450 EXC that is street legal that I use for everything but wanted something more road worthy but can also throw down in the woods in the single track. What’s your opinion between the two? Thanks in advance.
@2WR4 ай бұрын
Can you work on them yourself? (Valve adjustments, plugs etc) Also, how many miles a year do you think you’ll put on it realistically?
@ninjazxd4 ай бұрын
@@2WR yes I can work on them. I’m a diesel guy by trade but bikes aren’t too bad. Don’t really know how many miles since I e never had an adventure bike but if I had to guess maybe 1500 but that could change if my brother gets one as well.
@ninjazxd4 ай бұрын
@@2WR also I would switch back and forth between the other bike as well. May get on one and be hooked and end up going off every weekend weather permitting. Here in Georgia there is the Smokey Mountain 500 route that I’d like to try out and find some people to ride with so that 1500 mile guess could be a whole lot more. Would do a lot of backcountry moto camping as well.
@2WR4 ай бұрын
Then I’d probably go 990 given the price and mileage on it. Also, the maintenance intervals at 1500-2000 miles a year would only mean popping valve covers every 4-5 years. That said for someone your size the 1290 would fit you well.
