Hey Bruce! My father was a Milford firefighter, and was part of the crew that put your fire truck in service in 1990, and operated it until they retired it 18 years later. He actually took it for its last ride for Milford. The truck was Engine 4, and the crew was known as the “Bulls”. I actually got my name because of this exact truck. My father asked me to comment, in hopes that you’d see it, and let him tell you more about that truck and it’s wonderful history.

Coz many a times even i wish there was a mobile car wash service that would come to my home and wash the car for me, coz its so hectic and busy to get ready for work and hurrying to get to the office. In addition to that he can also start mobile car and truck repair business, since bruce is an experienced mechanic he can take this truck and also do repairs on cars for people at their home.

The pump is centrifugal. The impeller constantly spins this heating up the water around it. If you don't circulate the water it can reach boiling temperatures. Wrecking everything and scalding you.

Yes getting a hydrant permit keeps you legit..and he would also need to create an Air Gap to fill the truck to protect the potable water system. As filling the truck is not deemed as an emergency situation and cannot be filled Direct
@rwbborn
@rwbborn 4 жыл бұрын
Bubba Marlow most water utilities will supply you with a back flow preventer that hooks up with the meter. For those vehicles that cannot have an air gap. Unlike a water truck that can have an air gap up top where the water fills into the tank. But some will also make you provide the back flow yourself depending on the utility.

I've been a First Responder in Fire and EMS for 20 year and am currently an Engineer/Paramedic. My advice would be to check with your local Police Department and advise them of your intentions of fixing it up and donating it. Otherwise, some communities have ordinances prohibiting emergency lights and sirens on a private vehicle if you aren't and active member of a Fire Department. They might ask you to disconnect them while you have it. Other than that, it looks like a 90 Pierce Custom Cab Pumper, probably 1k gallon tank, pump can be between a 750gpm to a 1260gpm. I wouldn't go too far with the nozzle you had on the 1 1/2" hose. Look for "Pump Ops 1" videos if you want to learn more about the pump panel. Have fun with it buddy!

Hey Bruce. As a couple others on here, I am also a professional firefighter. I work for a department in north Pinellas County and I am a driver engineer for the past 18 years. My main job is to basically pump the truck. So if you have any questions about how to pump the truck or why we do what we do, just ask. I will try to help the best I can. Couple things, make sure when you are in pump gear, you are moving water, either flowing a hose or recirculating. The water can get so hot in the pump that you can melt the pump bearing and do serious damage to the pump. Second, dripping water from the pump packing (pump seal) is normal. It is usually a rope seal and they should drip 4 to 10 times a minute when pumping. If its not to bad of a drip, I would leave it. It is not a easy job. Have fun with the truck, and again, any thing, please ask.

I am fairly new to your channel. As a former career chief engineer with 31 years service my duties included fire engine driver's training, engine and ladder company operations, and vehicle maintenance. A few things to consider so you don't have any mishaps is to secure and empty the interior before raising the cab. The smallest item can roll out of place and strike the windshield and crack or pop it out. Also another key factor is the engine hours verses miles. In the life span of fire apparatus those numbers will be key, you might only have a few thousand road miles but a much higher reading on the engine hours meter. Where as most fire apparatus only travel a few miles to an emergency call, the could spend hours at higher rpm's at a working fire. That put a lot of wear and tear on the internal parts of the engine. When drafting from a fresh water or static source, you need to make sure all your connections are air tight and sealed, any air leaks in the hose you will not get any suction to draw the water. A centrifugal, midship-mounted fire pump on a fire department engine must be primed before it will operate. Primed means fully water flooded and all the air inside the pump casing preferably removed. An operating midship pump filled with water is self-sustaining in that it creates quite a high vacuum at the eye of the impeller. This provides a continuous intake of water when drafting from a static supply source. However, when water is drained and the pump is filled with air, the centrifugal pump impeller is a very poor vacuum pump. I will see if I still have some old training materials and send it your way. Best of luck.

The time to suit up at the time we trained was 1min and 30sec. They allowed us 2 min before we passed. We also owned a truck it was a 1963 Dodge pumper with 600 + original miles. The yellow truck are usually for airport use. Ours was yellow as well. It had a cannon that you operated from inside the cab. We lived on Lake Oconee Ga. so we got water as much as we wanted. I’ll look for a pic to send to you. We had so much fun. I’m 42 now that lets you know how long it was. I miss it now seeing yours.

keep it yellow. good luck with the pump seals. your comment at the walmart parking lot caught my attention. when you said no one would mess with a fire truck. from my experience kids especially have no respect and use them as jungle gyms. when I bring mine anywhere i always have someone with the truck at all times. even adults seem to get childish and enter the cab for selfies. it seems like all boundaries are off when its a fire truck. taking pump lessons is a great idea too. theres also lots of books out there. look up if there is any fire musters in your area. there is usually flea markets to find stuff, they are also a great place to meet other apparatus owners. you should also get real firefighting nozzles because the red ones you were working with are more commercial use not fire department use. looking forward to more vids. if you have any questions just ask. also be careful because ive heard so many stories of equipment being stolen off trucks that sit outside.

Fire Trucks you are 100% correct about how little kids have no respect when it was over at my house before we sold it to Bruce all the little kids that would walk past the truck from there bus stop they would always try to go up and mess with the truck and I would have to go out and stop them btw if u wondering who tf I am when I said before we sold the truck to Bruce you probably think I’m some kid trying to sound “cool” I’m actually the kid in the blue shirt in the video just sayin😐

I think every kid always wanted a fire truck ,,I don't yet own one but i do have my eye on one , it's an older one than this but quite unique too I do however own a school bus and my favorite of them all is one i have had for 2 years now ,, a 1948 GMC PD-3751 motorcoach which i do drive regularly and absolutely love the looks it gets it was originally a greyhound coach until 1965 and it was converted to an RV/motorhome in 1977 ,,i bought it in feb 2018 and have refurbished it completely , including an in-frame engine OH like you are doing to the cabover ,it has the original engine still a 6-71 detroit diesel 2 stroke ,, it has been upgraded to the 4 valve head and turbocharger ,changed all of the exterior lights to LED and upgraded the electrical systems and plumbing as well in the RV modernized that stuff while leaving the 1970s era feeling to it it's great to drive on the highway , similar in size to a 35ft motorhome i can easily make 12.5 MPG on the freeway when most RVs can barely break 8 mpg

I’m kind of jealous. Makes me miss our old 1832. Was one of our first brand new engines after we merged with the other local dept. my father was capt of the truck. He did all then gold leaf painting on it and the letters on the wheels. Was a great truck. Have fun with it but don’t get into trouble. Make sure your local depts know you have one.

Sweet! Couple of suggestions on water, if needed, up here the water company will rent you a hydrant meter, they don't care how much water you take from a hydrant as long as you meter and pay for it. Also check with your local concrete plant, they have high capacity pumps and the one I worked for never minded filling tanks for people who needed lots of water. And of course free is best if you have a pond or similar to draw from.

My father was a fire fighter for almost 27 years in Rochester, Indiana. That fire department had several yellow fire trucks. One was a tanker, a pumper truck and a fire Rescue truck and another one I think was for grass fires. If you want to check out that fire department it's newest location is on Highway 14 East in Rochester, Indiana by the Fulton County Municipal Airport

The leaking is normal. The purpose of that is to lube and keep the pump shafts cool during operation. Depending on your pump model you should see so many drips per min from all shaft packings. if you don't see any water dripping you will burn up the shafts and you'll have to break out your wallet to get it fixed. As far as your deck gun goes, you need to find the same coupling that is on your ground stand. That is made to be used were you want.....on the ground or on top of the truck. You don't have any idea how much money you have in extras! The ladder alone is expensive! and you have hose, gated Y's, nozzles etc You made out!!!!

Being a firefighter I'll tell you that back in the 80's till about 2010 most fire departments had their own color. By that I mean companies in the same local area. This was done so that the color of the truck as well as the color of firefighting gear could be used visually to know what company was on scene. I used to run in a county back east that the city had like green trucks just as this and the other remaining 14 companies (volunteer) had different color trucks. Yellow, white, baby blue, red, black, Forrest green, etc. Some were two toned. Keep it lime green!

Hey Bruce, love the channel. Another shoutout from Milford, CT! I see the fire fighting apparatus up here mostly red in color. But there may be others. I saw a truck wrapped in pink for breast cancer awareness once, but not sure about yellow. Could be a from it’s time in Tennessee from what the seller said in the video. I used to dream about trucks and stuff too when I was a kid. Can’t wait to see how the cab over turns out when you’re done. That’s my favorite part of the channel. I also think you handled the Ice Man situation with class. Great job overall !!! ✌️😎

You can get used fire equipment online. Just do a search for what you want You could become a community fire department depending on where you live volunteer your neighbors would feel much safer if you kept it operational. Some fire departments will even give you donated equipment if you have a volunteer department. All you really need is insurance and training. I know, I once was the President of a local volunteer department in rural Colorado. I had two fire trucks at my house for two years
