You might of over paid a little, with the hail damage its put the value at under $1400 you might get burned on this one, but you never know there's a sucker born every second or maybe just give it to mike as a gift.

@@AutoAuctionRebuilds Randy, the Sunbird is a phenomenal find and buy ! Ironically I have 5 OEM Pontiac Wheels in great shape that was an optioned rim style for many Pontiac models including the Sunbird. If you think about changing to rims instead of the hubcaps...I'd sell these to you for a very reasonable price, like a price you couldn't refuse 😊...hit me up bud

@@AutoAuctionRebuildsTo be honest, I think with this one you just might make you a small profit, just because of it being a convertable....It'll be interesting to see though what you'll get in resale. I would love to see a video of it being cleaned up l, and a little work to bring it back to a sellable condition! Good luck & enjoy some time with it👍

There's a machine called a hot box that Walmart sells. It works off of heat, and magnetism to remove hail dents. There are KZbin videos on how it works, and it only costs around $200.00. You could fix hail dents yourself, and make a video about it.

The sound is a cross of vacuum cleaner and tractor. We had the coupe version in my family with a 5 speed. Very solid and nice riding small car, never any problems with it. The 2.0L isn't one to wind up (as you found out). It just makes more noise than thrust.

By the way Randy, from what I could find the 2.0 in 1990 only made 98 hp. the only engine that made 140 was the 3.1 v6. Also a little fun fact I'm not sure many people know is there was a turbo 4 cylinder available only until 1991, which made 165hp with the high output turbo 4.

That started life as a rental car in a resort area. (no cassette player, no speed control, no white vinyl seats). 🚗 The GM rental car agencies (Avis/National) bought most. Competed against Hertz's 2.3 Mustang Converts and Thrifty's LeBaron Converts.

Hey Randy, what a treat! Just about the time I think you can’t possibly add any more unusual variety to your rotating car collection when you raise the bar! IE, the sun bird! Wow Randy those Fees are killers. At 50% of the value of the car, that's going to stop a lot of folks from buying them, which should cause demand to drop, and therefore prices as well. I'm blown away by the sheer volume of vehicles you are pulling across the channel. I like the ones you wrench on, and not so much the others. I also like the variety you are going for these days. I may not like each vehicle (old cop cars especially), but hopefully they make you happy to have them for a while. I always like it when Mike is on the channel as well. Have a great long weekend.

1991 would have been the first year for the optional 3.1L 140HP V6. The optional engine for a 1990 would have been the 165HP 175TQ 2.0l turbo 4 cylinder. This was just the 96Hp NA 4 banger. Hope you didnt bid on it thinking it had the optional engine.

I cant think of any other channel that has so much variety in the cars they feature. This one is an absolute time capsule to a simpler time. This really is a great car for late summer and early fall, as the weather gets cooler and you can just enjoy a peaceful ride with friends or family. The real shame is the lack of radio, otherwise you could blast some period tunes.... Head on down to the arcade or maybe blockbuster on saturday night, after grabbing pizza hut for dinner... The good old days. The cars might not have been great, but the memories sure are!

Family had a 1993 white Pontiac sunbird convertible back in the day. The one we had came not with the plain 4 cylinder or the v-6, but a turbo charged 4 cylinder and would just spin the front tires everywhere you go. If you see one of these with a turbo badge on the front fenders, buy it.

I hear you on the fees. Looking at a Volvo 4wd here in Canada at Copart. It’s worth $1000 but by the time you’re done the fees are $500 - 50% of the car. By the time I’ve repaired, transported it and had it inspected, it’s not really worth it given it will always be a rebuilt title car.

That’s a very clean car!!! Those were all over when I was a kid. Those flew with the 3.1! I remember that those 4 bangers had head gasket issues. I wonder if your bogging is a map sensor. In all honesty, 3 grabs isn’t bad. That car is immaculate. There was an after market stereo in that dash. That’s where the tape deck used to go. It was common for people to mount stereos there. Sweet find!!!

My dad had the same car in yellow. It was his last car he was still driving when he gave up the keys. He was convinced it was going to be a collector's item! Ironically he also owned a 68 Chevelle convertible at the same time but never drove it. Dad had some cool cars over the years but he was definitely not a car guy. Other than checking the oil and what they looked like he knew nothing about them. Those seatbelt towers are hideous. Serious design flaw.

I honestly think they same way you do. Hail damage is so insignificant. Unless it's some high end car, sports car, show car, rare collector car etc., then just cosmetic damage is pointless. It's ridiculous that insurance companies will total a car for a cosmetic blemish. It's so vain. A daily driver will never EVER be flawless. Road debris, wear and tear, it's just cosmetic... I honestly don't think you'll have difficulty selling this one to our generation. My parents had a 94 Cavalier when I was in high school, same gen of gm car, same engine. So it's already nostalgic to me. Where else will you find one this well kept? Just a few minor cosmetic issues. I'd say it's worth the 3k you spent.

The Sunbird was sold in Mexico as the Cavalier in 1992 and 1994. The Sunbird GT is the Cavalier Z24 with the flip up head light covers. They all have the V6 engines and a lot of them are stick shifts. They are cool cars that get no respect. There were no convertibles in Mexico though. Also the car had the Cavalier dash so it didn't have the claustrophobic instruments.

Even with 96hp it shouldn’t be that sluggish.

I bought a two owner (low mileage) in PC Beach ,Fla. in 2019 for $400. it was always garage kept and it had a brand new paint and new top ! The previous owners was a British lady whom I had done work for a few years prior ! Well I acquired another home remodel just two houses over in this retirement community where this 1993 sunbird convertable had spent its entire life goin to tha store and back! and upon my return the lady had passed and her grandchildren were there from Canada to get her belongings and were gonna scrap it for 400 so im like heres $400. I'll take it off your list of things to do! So i ended up putting a fuel pump on it for about $80 . Its a 4banger but runs like new its my every day driver n I love it.
