@7:56 According to the original Mercedes Manual, regular oil consumption is 0.15 - 0.25 l / 100km (60 miles) or 196 - 118 miles / US pints.

We need these cars with these engines back in production. When thinking about the emissions, these cars are better than the ones falling apart and having to be scrapped.

Small world. Been looking for a 300TD wagon, and actually saw this one listed on marketplace. I messaged the seller but he wasn't very responsive and it was pretty far (not as far as you guys traveled though), so I just gave up on it and later on saw it was sold. I just bought a different one (blue 1984 model) , but doesn't look quite as good of shape as yours. I wasn't able to drive it home so I had to tow it back. But I've been wanting a project, and I definitely got one LOL. I'm getting ready to attempt adjusting the valves, but I don't have the bent wrenches so we'll see how difficult it is without them. Yours looks clean though, congrats!

Yeah I’ve learned that the wagons are tough to find. I’ve been researching a lot since I bought this car and there seems to be a decent amount of YT videos and info on the internet with tips and tricks for working on these cars. Let me know if the valve adjustment is possible without the bent wrenches.

Awesome project, those 300TD are bringing in good money. Looked like an awesome spur of the moment road trip. Can't wait to see what ideas you got for the wagon. Make your own bio-deisel maybe? That would be cool to see!

Great wagon with the excellent OM 617 engine. You may need to get the head gasket replaced to stop the oil leakage; and replace the broken taillight. It's good you made the round trip before the strong snow storm that's happening as of the writing of this comment 👍Good luck, and Merry Christmas 🎄

Thanks for the encouraging comment. I do plan to replace the taillight but I’m hoping to drive the car for a bit and see how bad the blow by is before diving into the head gasket. The engine will have to get pretty bad before I take the head off. Yes, I have not driven the car in any salt/snow as of now. Stay tuned for future videos and my plans to preserve this car as long as I can.

So how much oil did it burn on the trip home?
@SquarebodyTruckCamper2 жыл бұрын
At this time I don’t know how much it burned specifically. But it leaked/burned about 2 quarts in the 700 mile trip. Once I fix the major oil leaks I will have a better answer. Thanks for the comment!

@@SquarebodyTruckCamper thanks for the content. I enjoy watching your channel. Just bought an old truck camper myself, starting in January on its renovation. You gave me some good ideas. Can't wait until your next video. Keep on Trucking.
