We used one of those Yaris for a parts run car at a photocopier company i worked for, it ran between Newcastle,leeds and stoke... When it was crashed and written off it had 322k Miles on it..... 1.0 litre engine unbelievable!!!

Its amazing how a decent run out can improve a car, particularly one that has just done short runs. In my student days id have jumped at that and done the brakes myself as long as the engine and box were OK. Sod the paintwork..who cares ? Id have got a man in a shed to do the welding ( id do it myself now)

I love stuff like this, just the up most respect for someone that treats something of no real monetary value with all the care it needs, as opposed to the amount of 5 year old, premium cars you come across with no service history, 1 key and an interior that looks like it's been on a farm. My old mondeos the same, I could swap it but I just feel obliged to keep going now 😂

Used the Polytrol on black plastic trim,and,as you say,best thing I have tried.It's recommended for composite house doors,and faced fibreglass.

It would have been fun to see if it could live on, given thst service history, but i suspect it would have needed too much bodywork on its crusty sills. Given those sills passed as MOT you wonder what else a blind eye was turned to. Id love to see you run a high mileage hero on the fleet though

I got given a Micra for free because it had failed MOT and TBF it was visually a shed, I wanted to teach my daughter to drive. Took it to my local garage, £250 to get it road legal. She passed her test and upgraded to a better Micra, I kept it until the clutch packed in 4 years and 60k miles later, cost me a couple of hundred in odd bits every year. Best value car I ever had.

These old bullet proof cars maybe worth quite a lot once the transition to electric starts getting closer. Reliable, lots of used parts available and garages know how to work on them. They'll be the last bastion of fossil fuel vehicles.

I more or less gave away a rusty alto a few years ago, front strut had rusted and broke when it hit a pothole, there was hell to pay over it, price didn't matter, I ended up fitting another strut virtually in the middle of the road to sort it, mid winter and in the rain, as a trader your liable, if a cars unsafe I just scrap it, even then yards have re sold them as runners and I've had people back.

James, why didn't the dealer just call the scrapman? My old Peugeot 406 MOT failure was collected by one of those online places. They gave me £295. They needed to pay a third party guy with a trailer to come and pick it up in rural south Somerset. They need to make a profit so the car must have been worth £450 or so total scrap value?

@@ChopsGarage Prices on ebay are crazy high. Road tax are high too esp for 1.3L auto 157g/km (co2) is £255 a year, the 1.3L manual is £190 & the 1.0L £160 i think. I had a 2002 Yaris for 14yrs no rust at all as i looked after it,paint was still good too. Don't think that cond. & miles will not go for more than £600 but you did look after your garage lads.
