Ryobi used to use slide on packs when everyone else used stick packs. Ryobi switched to stick packs, then everyone else started to switch to slide on packs. To be honest, with battery adapters now widely available, there is nothing stopping Ryobi from switching back to slide on packs and selling adapters to use the new packs on old kit. In fact, I am surprised TTi haven't made a range of official adapters to allow the use of Rigid and Milwaukee batteries on Ryobi products. I have an adapter that allows me to use my Milwaukee packs on my Ryobi tools. I also picked up a Ryobi jigsaw that had a Makita to Ryobi adapter for £18 from my local Cash Converter shop.

@@ybgrsfd The reason I use Ryobi cordless (even professionally) is because my DeWalt set got stolen in 2001 or so, and I needed something cheap to get me by. I figured I would replace the Ryobi tools when they broke. They didn't break, and they performed better than expected. Still not DeWalt performance, but good enough especially for about 1/5 the price. The thing that kept me using Ryobi was their tool selection. When most of those brands were finally releasing recip saws and circular saws, Ryobi had those, and was making cordless rotozips, routers, miter saws, and caulk guns among many other tools. Now don't get me wrong, Ryobi still makes entry level stuff, and a lot (A LOT) of it is junk. But their higher end stuff is generally good, often on par or sometimes better than TTI's Ridgid cordless tools. While some brands make 1 or 2 versions of the same tool, Ryobi will make 3 or 4. There's truth that Ryobi is TTI's R&D department, but sometimes they hit it out of the park. The airstrike brad nailer for instance.

Ryobi got some good stuff and some not so good. We had a fleet of tools from them before I convinced upper management to get us some better tools. We ran a hybrid fleet of ryobi and dewalt. Ryobi tools that suck that we insisted the company buy us literally any other brand for: - Brad nailer, Every one we had couldn't fire a 1.5 inch brad nail fully into 1/2 baseboard through drywall into a stud without the head showing and they jammed. - The low end drills have a TERRIBLE delay in the gorilla-tool interface (the trigger) and the variable speed function shit the bed and became full tilt with a small press after no time. - The oscillating tools just underpowered and dont like drywall dust at all. The good: - Cordless circular saws, has the 6 1/4 saw. Good for everything you'd use a tiny circ on. put a good blade, and you're having fun, don't build cabinets with em. - The better drills. good enough. Ditto for the impacts at least for screw driving. - the jigsaws. Variable speed with a slider instead of with the trigger, easy to adjust the shoe, deep stroke length, used all the blade. - the weird stuff. Ryobi makes cordless tools that aren't normally cordless, and use the same batteries as everything else - the baby cordless sds hammer drill. We only ever used it for tap-cons for mounting closet tracks. 3/16 bit. cheap compared to any other cordless sds drill. use a bigger battery.

A hammer drill literally hammers while drilling. When drilling in concrete, a drill alone does basically nothing when you hit aggregate, but the internal hammering action works the drill bit through.

I bought a Ryobi 18v combo kit 2 years ago that came in a rolling case with 8-9 tools in it. Last year I bought the hedge trimmer to add to it and it's been great.

I have only ryobi only because i bought one of those kits and didn't want to have a bunch of different brands and chargers for different things since then I've bought a ton of other stuff and always have charged batteries and only the drill chuck blew up on me under "extreme " conditions. Never had a problem and works reliably everytime

Got the little blower/inflator thing a couple years back, pretty useful for cleaning up saw dust and to light a lire :D

I love Ryobi! Glad you guys seem to warm up to it a bit. Might not work for the big boys punishing their tools on the daily, but, for the average homeowner, it's unbeatable for price and selection. Only Ryobi I ever killed was my stick vacuum, but those same conditions killed a fancy shark vacuum too for whatever that's worth.

I have a light weight ryobi weedwaker for my wife to use, she loves it and it's super easy for just around my house. I also have an electric mower that runs on one of the 40v batteries that i also just love.

9:31 ahhhh there it is. That empowerment that Ryobi enables.
@iceman125971Ай бұрын
that's because the stick actually still holds the battery INSIDE the drill better during high impact falls. ALSO you can still use a ryobi battery from 2002 with a brand NEW tool. or vise versa, back when ryobi was blue not green. meaning old tools wont become outdated and have to be thrown away cause you cannot get a replacement battery for them like new tools nowadays, or older Milwaukee and Makita and dewalt tools that are losing their batteries but still great tools with plenty of power.

Great video, I love it. I wish they sold returns like this in Australia. The ones that don't work could often be fixed in 15 minutes. Just a wire not connected and simple things like that.
@gigaphonicon3 ай бұрын
One cool thing about ryobi is the oldest battery tools they have made through to the newest all run on the same battery base. So your drill from 2001 will still work with a new battery from today. Longevity is a thing still.

i started off making a craftman powertool collection but then they changed the battery type on me. so i found out that ryobi wont change theirs. and when you cant spend a lot on tools its important that they will all work together over the years. been buying ryobi ever since!

This. Which is also why they're still doing the dumb 18v battery shape, though

16:18 I bought my first house last year and I got the Craftsman 20V battery stuff. Weed eater and leaf blower combo from Lowes with a 2 amp hour battery and charger was $100. Got a pole saw that came with a 4 amp hour battery and charger for $130 to cut down branches and a string of trees growing along my fences. The battery and charger were $100 by themselves so I got the saw for another $30. Try to get a Craftsman pallet from Lowes. Someone else has Craftsman but for sure Lowes took it over and even are honoring the replace your screwdriver for free system that Sears had.

Nice deal! I have owned pretty much every power tool Home Depot sells and I stick with Ryobi now. I use them on a daily basis with out a problem even the stuff that is ancient. What I like about them is they never changed the batteries my old blue 18v Ryobi tools from the 90s are still usable with the newer stuff. I gave my son my Dewalt stuff and I do have some Ridged that was a gift a combo pack with a few tools and batteries. I have a few Makita corded tools that I found when cleaning out an building and a Mikita chop saw someone put on the curb. It cost me $30.00 in parts to repair it. A lot of my Ryobi stuff I got during the holiday season when you buy 2 batteries a charger and a bag you get a free tool.

The Ryobi One+ 18v platform hasn't changed form factor in decades. Current-release battery packs can run the 30-year-old blue brushed tools. They are the most consistent designs of any tool brand, and while they're not commercial grade, they have never let me down for 95% of what I need to do!

I work for MET, but I’ve got the Ryobi versions of the soldering iron, the rotary tool, and the large sized hot glue gun. I’ve only got one outlet per room in my 100 year old apartment, so I need battery powered tools to get things done around here. I’ve got the Ryobi heat gun as well, but I’m going to upgrade to the Milwaukee version. This uses up batteries super quick.
@clarencelau3 ай бұрын
Several of my colleagues had the Milwaukee M18 heat gun, all returned. It's on par with those Amazon generic ones that you can get for any specific battery platform. The Ryobi one probably works the same or better.

A lot of people say its not a good brand. Im disabled person in a wheelchair. I build my coffee table with sander; hand saw and screwdriver. Those tools would be upgrade to me. Not a pro. Im just handy.

I kind of like my Ryobi lawn mower, snow blower, weed whacker, and leaf blower with the 5AH battery. I can cut the lawn (small) 4 times with one charge, and it does a good job cutting. And if I'm feeling saucy with the whacker and blower, I can use one battery to do it all and have 1 bar charge left over. The snow blower has tackled 2ft of snow in the driveway and still have 1 bar of charge left. But I do have a DeWalt drill because that matters lol.

A lot of Ryobi returns are likely to new in box. Ryobi regularly offers a promo where you pay $99 for a 2 battery set and get a free tool with it, from a list of preselected tools. People will then return the tool and keep the batteries at ~half their normal cost. The lawn tools are more common to do this with because they are higher cost, and the higher the cost of the item you are returning relative to the $99 cost of the battery set, the more you get returned.

I really do like Ryobi stuff - mostly because they work great for what i need them for and i am broke...so they do not ruin me. I have had my eyes on a kit for a long time but never had the money to buy it... in sweden where i live everything is rather expensive, and because if that i seldom buy tools anymore.... but still love to buy em whenever i can. I use my ryobi tools at my really old home that i am trying to renovate...

1) Get a Menards return pallet. Tool brands you've never even heard of, and then some random Bosch stuff. Us Midwesterners love Menards. 2) Do a build off with John using the Ryobi tools and the other guys using everything in the shop. Gotta use nice wood for it though - not construction lumber. 3) The video edits and jokes have me laughing so much. They're gold. I needed something light-hearted and fun today, so this is great.
