In my childhood we had quite a lot of things that nowadays would be considered weird, like pasta with cinnamon sugar and double cream, or bread butter and sugar and honestly I still do these things because I’ve always found them extremely tasty but at the same time My taste buds are weird since my favourite combination of 2 foods are crisps and milk, you put the crisps into a bowl and pour in milk. YUM!!

I have lived in Germany long enough to experience the “good wibes”. Can someone please explain to me why this phenomenon occurs? When Germans see the letter “v” in other words they pronounce it correctly, like “river”. But with “vibes” and “Darth vader” the “v” is replaced with a “w”? Is this taught in school or is it just a universal honest mistake??

Hey, I spent a few years as an au pair in the US myself and often had this discussion with my host parents, as I always pronounced Van like Wan. I am now studying English linguistics here in Germany and asked my professor (she is from the US), who specializes in language skills, about this. She explained to me that this "V" sound is just very difficult for us to speak if it is not learned over and over again. Since many of the teachers here are not native speakers either, emphasis is rarely placed on pronunciation in class. But there are also sounds that many foreigners cannot speak in German and can usually never learn.

I think it's just a really similar sound and people get confused when they have to use it. Also, maybe since the English V is the same as the German W, people think, it soundd "more English" to use the English W sound. I think, I did when I was younger.
