As a panel beater I have to say I admire your effort, positivity and confidence. I started off just messing with my own car and KZbin in my other hand..... most daunting thing I’ve done and it wasn’t easy as there wasn’t much trader tips available so having been there I would like to help u out a little..... 1) Apply fibreglass/filler in stages and allow to harden before reapplying on deep fill areas e.g the bumper and roof holes otherwise it’s all gunking up together and not hardening properly deep inside not to mention full of a heap of unneeded product 2) when u apply fibreglass/filler allow it to slightly overlap onto surrounding area (past hole) and flatten with 80grit until it’s about even with surrounding area. IT DOES NOT need to be perfect as you will apply body filler over it again after to fill any imperfections/low spots from fibreglass filling. ****first filler is always rough fill and to try and get 80+% possible “shape” your second filler (or more if needed) (thinner skim) is actually the finalising one. **** 3)grade up. Start with 80grit to get your shape, 180grit to finalise that shape and 320 to get rid of any scratches from the more corse paper. Each time you go a grade up scuff a little wider each time to get rid of any sanding scratches (totally ruins all your hard work when you can see them after the cars painted). This area will then become your “primer area”. PRIMER: -allow your primer to flash (dry) about 80%+ then apply another coat. Look at your repair areas to work out whether u need more coats (repaired/primed area should all look nice and uniform) -you went through your primer on the repaired area exposing it (you didn’t hit it with enough primer coats) must not be visible. - try not to leave primer hard edges (spraying right upto the masking) and all edges of primer (primer/old paint meeting point) must not be visible otherwise will show up in paint. Hope it helps and moreso hope I ain’t baffled your head!!! Good luck m8.

this comment is pretty much spot on, I restore classic cars (Check out my channel) and my advise would be as above, A little more filler and primer, also you need to soft edge the primer not primer to the masking, also just take your time and on larger panels dont push too hard because the panel will flex and you will end up with a crown of filler. all in all top job

Great work - we all start some where. Make sure you use automotive grade adhesive- Tiger seal is a good brand. Domestic epoxy adhesive isn’t suitable for such applications. It will probably flex crack and peel off in time Great idea with the parts car

I hate fibreglass too, such a messy way to fix it, but the metal over the hole in the rail was a good idea and metal under the roof also. Don’t worry if you make a mistake.. you’re a good narrator! I’m gonna binge watch your other videos now! 👍👌
@ItsAllJustBollox3 жыл бұрын
Looking good, the area where you sanded through the paint next to the hole in the roof could be a high spot and will show through the top coat if not addressed, the fixing might have been the aerial and the fixing could have been pushed hack by the wind lifting the panel in front causing the high spot. It's always better removing the paint when applying filler so it's direct on the metal it can then be feather edged when sanded better. It's been a few years since I did bodywork so things might have changed but I used to put stopper a fine type of filler in a tube over the repairs to get a better finish. You can spot prime those repairs without the maskings and avoid the hard edges that you later had to sand off. Hope it gives you a few ideas next time but you are doing a great job.

@@Clan501-Scotland - not anymore several forces have ANPR fitted to all vehicles but only trafiic deals with the data provided. example - panda car doing it`s usual beat run passes MR B in his car with no MOT, as the panda car passes it, it captors this and sends data & pics be to Traffic which deals with it as needed, IE: Traffic car near by sent to deal with it or a visit at home at a later date or postal notice etc. The bobby in the panda car which caught the offence knows nothing about it, as he/she was doing their beat run when the data was caught and sent through to traffic.
