Growing up riding Honda ATC 110 3 wheelers I learned that they are dangerous in a panic stop when you need to turn. In the middle 1980’s one of the ATV magazines built a balloon tire 3 wheel ATV with 2 tires in the front and one in the back because of the Government pushing for 3 wheel ATV ban. So why doesn’t that company build them with 2 wheels in the front and one in back?

The twike was for many years the most efficient "car" on the streets in switzerland. The owners I know love it and there are even fanclubs and events around it. Sadly even the price of used ones is very high compared to e-bikes. For a sensible country like Switzerland where people don’t drive silly oversized pickup trucks it makes totally sense. Safety wise its much safer than you might think. The batteries are between the rear wheels which make rollover almost impossible. A friend of mine got in an accident with a tram. The twike took hardly any damage and the driver was ok. Since its top speed is about 50mph it might not be invoved in a high speed crash

That thing is screaming for modernisation. Would be cool to get drag down, range up and use it for camping. Actually adding a tapered rear cargo space would actually increase the range quite a bit I'd imagine, also stiffening the rear suspension and increasing the tyre width but also pressure. I'd also convert it to one seat and sort the steering. Basically I'd change everything but keep most of the shell.

@bloodypommelstudios71442 ай бұрын
Having a throttle seems like it'll discourage peddling unless you're extremely self-motivated since even between 2 people you're unlikely to be outputting more than 10% of the power. I'd have just the motor automatically output 10x the peddle power. This could free up a lot of complexity from the design too.

"Trikes" are probably the worst layout for wheels you can get. 4 wheels are stable, you can "straddle" the wheels either side of potholes or debris etc. 2 wheels, more maneuverable, can completely avoid nearly all road hazards, even go around "speed humps" or barriers and can be parked in space near anywhere that's wide enough to walk through. But 3 wheels, you've got the worst of both, miss the pothole with the two wheel axle, you'll cop it with the single, and visa versa. As wide as a 4wheeler, so can't fit in spaces the 2 wheeler can, and with the single wheel in the front (as this has, and the Reliant Robin, and most road bike conversions) it is more unstable than both when cornering. I can see valid reasons to own a trike over a bike (esp a paraplegic or some sort of lower body disability that wants a bike, but can't easily balance) but at least have the 2 wheels at the front.
