First off go to Walmart and buy some cleaning rags. They will clean better than paper towels and you can reuse them. The ones I buy are in a package of like 18 in the kitchen area. They are 12x12 and are just like cheap wash rags.

Agree with getting cleaning cloths. They are washable and you can use them for years. Use water and distilled white vinegar it’s a great cleaner. You can even add a couple drops of Dawn dish soap into the spray bottle. 4 parts water and 1 part distilled white vinegar, 2 drops Dawn dish soap into a spray bottle. Spray your shower down daily, use it on your counters, fridge shelves, all over!

You're doing great! Over time you will make that house a home. You'll learn as you go on the cleaning, but I agree with everyone else - go to Walmart and buy some cleaning rags that you can wash, a bucket and some all purpose cleaner to mix with water. Samantha, in your linen drawers, I would buy vacuum bags. I would put blankets, sheets, etc things not used often. Seal them and place them in those drawers. I am older as you probably can tell. I have always lined my shelves making it easier to clean. It is nice to see the purchase of your new house. Exciting times ahead. Dreams do come true.

In your linen closet you could also put linen paper that spells and you can put your sheets and your towels and extra toilet paper any stuff that you have a lot of light for storage you could put up there..💗💗💗 you say you’re afraid at night old house is creek and settle lived in one it was a Victorian house and it constantly made noise.. takeoff the blinds fill your tub up and stick them in there that’s how I used to clean my blinds. And when you fold your sheets fold them all together and then stick them in a pillowcase so they’re all in one spot!

If it is a cabinet it will stay clean if closed. But you can get zipper soft side bins and put those in and still see what you have. The drawers are for sheets, extra pillows and towels!

You could put your blinds in the bathtub to clean them. Contact paper can go in the drawers and shelves. You can get little window limiter locks that screw onto the window edge at Walmart or Home Improvement stores.

I got a set of 3 rechargeable pillar candles about a year ago and LOVE them. No toxins in the air, no awful batteries to throw out, and they add so much warmth to the room. You could line some rechargeable candles in your fireplace to give you the look of fire... sort of.

I’ve hung wallpaper for 30+years.. it’s a great choice for rough walls but unless you’re experienced at it it can be a challenge especially in older homes..my advice is to use a vinyl pre pasted wall covering over actual paper..it’s much easier for a novice to work with..also stay away from any wall coverings that have straight lines(squares,stripes etc)because your window and door casings and openings are most likely not level and square from settling..floral and abstract designs will work much better.

I put shelf liners or contact paper in the drawers/shelves after cleaning. That helps keep them clean. Also Murphy’s soap for cleaning the wood. All purpose soap and water will help clean painted surfaces. I also use fabric bins/baskets to hold sheets, tablecloths and smaller towels. I have taken blinds down and laid flat usually when nice outside use hose and a hand brush with soap and water. Otherwise replace but I’ve had good luck cleaning them.

Recommendation…buy the paint. Putting fresh paint up makes a world of difference in clean. And you can start with rooms that u use the most. Cleaning blinds works best if you take then down and let them sit in soapy bath water to loosen dirt. Then you can wipe then down and rinse.

Shelf liner might help with the sheet and towels feeling cleaner. Sometimes the fabrics pick up an older smell from the wood shelves. Throwing a sachet in there helps with a fresh smell too. Lavender scent or your choice

❤ Lovey, I would not go spending a lot of money for a long while. Big expenses could be right around the corner. You can pick up shelf liner paper from the dollar store. To make it look pretty have the folded side of linen facing the outside ( not the open ends), then stack neatly. Also just clean up the fire 🔥 place & place 10-12 candles in the insert & lite them..very pretty. Finally I'd ask the paint store to recommend a white paint & paint the fireplace to brighten up the focal point. You've got a keeper there, I'm proud of you!😊

I got some great battery candles with remotes. Love the candle vibe! Check your city ordinances. Most won’t let you add a wood stove. Maybe a pellet stove.

You will need to find the source of the unlevel floors. The home inspection should have picked this up. A builder/inspector will be able to determine the cause. In your basement the load bearing beams should be inspected.

Your window that won’t stay open is a “sash” window (aka box sash). They have a built-in lead counterweight on a cord inside the frame that makes opening and closing the window easier. The cord to your sash window is probably broken. You can have it fixed, or just prop the window open with a stick.

Venetian blinds can be taken down and literally hosed down outside and brush and soapy water cleaned. Hose again. Hang to dry over clothesline, if you have, or hang somewhere to drip, then re hang. It's the only way to really get them clean

Consider inexpensive wire shelving or IKEA “bookcase” with the storage cubes. Looks streamlined and hides a myriad of random stuff that can become cluttered in closets or cabinets. You can camouflage it in a pretty room by thrifting a nice tablecloth or curtain and hanging over it and use as a lamp/ end table. Dollar Tree flowers are just as ok and less $. In fact, you can get so many things there and stretch your budget. ✌️❤️🏡

What does the basement look like? Posts and beams? Have your fireplace checked before you burn anything it. Many fireplaces are not lined or made of firebricks above the roofline, which becomes a fire danger..along with built up creosote.

Primarily due to uneven moisture absorption by the wood, often caused by improper acclimation before installation, high humidity fluctuations, or moisture coming from below the subfloor. Sanding the floor can often level out minor waves, Addressing the underlying moisture issue by adjusting humidity levels in the home In extreme situations, affected floorboards might need to be replaced. I would get a de-humidifier to see if that works. Do you have a basement?

My niece bought a beautiful tufted pink couch but it was a bigger couch on Wayfair recently and I think she said she only paid like $450 $500 for it. You might see if they still have one. If I can find the link maybe I can put it in here on the comments I found it. It's on Wayfair. It's a 83-in pink Chesterfield couch and it's $469 and they have other ones also and the mob and pink family you might want to look at it at it. It's made out of velvet also and I think it would go good with your tables that your mom got you plus that existing couch that you have. Good luck!

I would wait in your purchases. The reason is that you don't know what hidden cost a house has for you in the future. Be careful "steaming" the walls. I would wash with warm water and an old towel. Then paint with a semi-gloss to keep it easy to clean

So I’m afraid of the dark too and I’m 65 so I finally found these plug-in lights that only come out on when you turn the lights out. Can’t remember where I got them if I got them at Ace Hardware or Home Depot but you just plug them in they charge then when all the lights go out, they come on so every time I go in and out of the kitchen and I turn the lights on and off it turns on and I have one and The bathroom, the kitchen the hallway and and they light up pretty well that you don’t have to have them in every single room I mean in the rooms that I don’t go in all the time I don’t have one in there, but you can put one in every room, but at least in the hallwayyour bathroom, your kitchen and your bedroom. They’re all well maybe not the bedroom because then it keeps me up all night.

I have a friend that bought a new home in Oklahoma she had to have her home lifted it wasn’t an astronomical cost but it was a cost I wanna say $5,000-$10,000 so still quit a bit. But definitely have it checked and get an estimate if that needs to be done. Don’t use the credit card 😉 pay cash when you have it. Cash cash cash!!!

You could buy plastic containers to store things in. Or bags with zippers. That cupboard probably hadn’t been cleaned in a while. That long handled thing is a mop. You can do it all so just prioritize what is most important, and also cheapest to most expensive. You have dining room chairs that guests can sit on when they visit, for example. Maybe try not to charge too much and pay as you go. Also, if someone judges you by your linen closet, well, you don’t need them in your life. 😂😂

If your house is runs on fuel oil, I would stick the tank don't go by the gauge if it has one. Call around and see how much a tank of Fuel oil costs. Turn the heat down when you leave to go to work. Old houses usually require more fuel as they are drafty. Don't forget on how you are going to clean your driveway. Better get a snow blower & snow shovel. Don't forget land and school taxes. Do you have to pay for garage pickup and water and sewer fees. Just keep in mind a real estate agent only wanted to sell you a house they don't care if you keep it. I would rather keep warm then get another couch.

When you mentioned none of your doors closed I was thinking that perhaps your home was not level. One sign of a home not being level is doors not closing and cracks on walls especially near door jambs. I would imagine if the floors sloped this would be another sign of the home being out of level but your description seems like it's more "bumpy" which sound like warped boards.
