Sweet ride! To turn off your lights when the doors are open, simply hit your dimmer switch to the off position. Don’t forget to turn it on if driving at night. Also, if you need to build over your airbag curtains, you can look at your fuse diagram and see which one controls your rear airbags. Do be careful with them, if you ever decide to rotate your passenger seat around. Disconnecting the battery before doing so will keep you safe. And as nomads, that’s our first responsibility. Welcome back!!! The owners manual is an excellent place to find the switch that turns your interior lights on/off. There is usually three settings. On all the time, on when a door is open and off.

Alyssa, I'm so glad you went with that type of van. Seems like a lot of KZbinrs are upgrading to sprinter vans and although they are very nice its like following your grandma and grampa around with their motorhome during retirement. No stealth, no trials and tribulations, no bathroom issues...boring! Also, if you plan on doing Quartzsite again this winter check with Homes on Wheels Alliance and they may set you up with free solar and other builds for a smaller van. I’ve seen people put a swivel seat on the passenger side, that’ll spin all the way around, that might be pretty cool! There might be a way to disable the lights in the setting. Did they give you a big instructions book that came with the car? All the cool tips are either in there, or if not, a model specific forum genius will know !

Looks like you found the perfect vehicle for your needs! Don't build over your air bags! You have to remove them otherwise they will become very dangerous if they go off and send debris flying at you. The best minivan builds I've seen have always been self built. I really think in a vehicle that small it doesn't pay to hire a professional van builder. You're better off just using out of the box solar power generators and maybe a simple rechargeable water spout instead of doing any fancy plumbing or electrical work. I hired a local handyman to do carpentrywork for a few days on my skoolie conversion. I have zero regrets and got exactly what I wanted built.

Congratulations on your new ride. With the hitch, one thing you can do is get a swing arm hitch cargo box. This will give you more storage space without the wind lag and it can swing out to allow you to open the doors. For the lights, perhaps you can trick the door in thinking it’s closed by making it click closed on a carabiner. I have to do that to my outback so that the rear hatch can be opened and the batter not drain. Just thoughts and/or suggestions. But again congrats and can’t wait for you to start your new adventures.

3:10 Yeah. Texas has had a really bad drought this summer, and clearly you really don’t know what’s going on (here) anymore. The rain was so very much needed and appreciated (I was about to pray and put on a rain dance in the backyard). We are still at a deficit, though. It’s just not raining very often anymore and when it does it threatens to take the new roof off more than actually rain. 😮😱 Freaking scary a.zz storms here in DFW… Hurry and leave the state. You should have made a community post or two lol. Limo tint is bad only because if someone is taking advantage of you in the back, NOBODY will ever know. I heard one horror story from a lady who was violently taken advantage of in the back of her vehicle in front of a storage place and nobody knew because nobody could see in. It was at gun point. Like… from that story I immediately never desired limo tint again. It’s okay if people see me some. If you build over your airbags, should your airbags ever deploy whatever you have built over it is going to explode shrapnel at you. Remove them there if that’s an option?😅 I like it overall. Less chance of hail damage tbh. Good deal.

Hi! For builder’s in order of preference: Jonnie’s Journey Josh Oakes DualEx (not sure if he takes on projects) but he is cool af. For your light - the manual should have better instructions; The interior rear lights are switchable. You can turn them to an always "off" position. Or you can flip them to an always "on" position.......but they still go off after a period of time to save the battery. Then there's the middle position that has them come on when the doors open. They go off after 5 minutes or so.

I understand your frustration with the slow crank knob on your passenger seat. It can be annoying, especially when you want quick access to the back of your van. Without removing the entire seat, I would drill a hole in the knob and glue in a stubby nose screwdriver or whatever you have clearance for so you could at least turn it easier and faster. Also: Lubrication: Sometimes, slow-moving mechanisms can be improved with proper lubrication. You can try applying a silicone-based lubricant or a dry graphite lubricant to the knob's moving parts. This might help it move more smoothly and quickly. Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions or debris around the knob or in the seat's tracks that could be slowing down its movement. Cleaning out any dirt or debris may help. Adjustment: If there's an adjustment mechanism for the seat, check if you can adjust the tension on the knob or any related components. Some seats have adjustable tension settings to make them easier to move.

I know Alyssa will not see this comment but I encountered a similar issue with my Escape in terms of the interior lights not having an actual 'off' switch, and for some stupid reason the vehicle was designed for them to always come on any time a door opens. Hitting 'lock' on the key fob doesn't shut them off, the 'carabiner trick' doesn't work. I know I can hit the signal stick forward and back and the headlights and interior safety lights go off, but the hatch light was still staying on and draining my battery (bc I'm a full timer as well so I always have my hatch or doors open). Eventually I just looked up how to disconnect the hatch light. I think Dodge is a little better at designing their vehicles but if anyone is encountering this try the signal stick trick first, then if any interior lights stay on and you don't need them pop the bulbs out.

I Like Your New Ride, As For The Interior Lights, Check Your Owners Manual And See If There Is A Button Or Switch Like My Chevy And Hummer Both Have That Allow You To Get In And Out "Without" The Interior Lights Coming On Every Time You Have A Door Open, Especially When You Are Out Camping Or Don't Want The Bugs To Be Attracted To Lights. Fuses fuses fuses. Find the fuse for the overhead cabin lights and pull em. See if your airbags have a fuse or relay you can pull to deactivate them. As far as the "shifting" problem, cargo vans are meant for big gears for smooth trips to avoid jerky motions that will tip boxes, however, I would look into whats called a "throttle response regulator". I 9 is a brand that sells some that are good, top brand being pedal commander but they are expensive (400$). Good luck! Az mechanic watching!

Lighting- go to like a Bass Pro, or online and you can buy a 12 volt light with a switch. It should be relatively easy to swap them. Then you can turn it on and off at your pleasure from the rear. Leaving it in the "on" position, and it will work just like the original. Don't forget to have your dash switch in the off position before messing with the wiring to avoid popping a fuse.

Some tips.. 1) airbags * some of them * can be unplugged by a technician or simply cutting the wires to them. Get a pro to do it, so you don’t accidentally disable the ones for driver and passenger. 2) the lights are controlled by a small pressure switch inside the door- where the door meets the frame. If u push on it it will shut off *replicating the door being shut. This means you can keep it off, by taping it down, or super glue them to stay in the “ door closed “ position.

Congratulations! Love the new Van! It has a great look and like you said, super stealthy. You might want to check the owners manual on the interior lights. Many newer vans and even some older ones have a button that you push that turns interior lights off with the doors or hatch open. My SUV has such a button and it's a 2001.

The ECO light was on in my new 2017 Toyota Sienna and learned having ECO (for fuel economy) "on" is what was causing my Sienna to have a slow pickup. Check your owners manual or research the vehicle's year, make, and model on KZbin. I learned that ECO should be turned "off" when driving on the highway. Also explore when ECO can or should be used or "on". Hopefully, this is helpful. Enjoy your BLACK BEAUTY! My Sienna is the color gray/grey and her name is GRACE, which stands for GOD'S GRACE. Similar to your endearment with Stevie, my 2008 Nissan Quest (PEARL) graciously hung on for 3 years until the transmission couldn't take it any longer. Soon after, GOD used my dear brother to gift me with a significant down payment so that I could purchase GRACE! 🙌 I am so GRATEFUL to God and my brother. The ceiling light, you can just pull the bulb. The airbags, you need to take them off if you plant to build cabinet etc in front of it. You don't want the cabinets turn to projectile when the airbags go off. The passenger seat, try to find seat from another car that fit the bolt pattern. Make sure it is not way higher/lower than original.

There is a switch for the interior lights. It should be on the bottom left dashboard near where your left knee would be. Usually it’s a dial and if you turn it all the way to the left it will turn them off. No need to pop fuses out.

Awesome. You're now officially an Efficient RVer. I'd just been wondering about your vehicle search today. Good timing for my Alyssa Vanilla fix. I could advise you about the technical things, but will give it a couple of days to see if someone else gets it right, then I'll just reply to their comments saying I agree. ;-) Then maybe I'll post again pointing to what I think are the best answers, and putting in my own 2 cents worth. But I'll give short answers to some of it. 1. Front passenger seat. I've had "crank the knob" seat adjustments, and while they're great for adjusting the seat one time for a person, they do suck as far as getting the seat folded forward or back. Turning the seat to face backwards might work great for living space, but makes that seat no longer crash-worthy for a passenger while driving. 2. Building over airbags. They should be removed if placing anything of substance over them which could become a projectile. Removing them is not as hard as it sounds, but you do want it done by someone who knows what they're doing, and isn't a loved one you'd miss. Now that I think about it, that sounds like I'd qualify. But if I screw up, my kids would miss me. ;-) We'll all be staying in San Antonio for 5 days for the April 8th solar eclipse. 3. Van builders. I recommend Jonnie (a woman) whose website is midwestvanbuilders.com. Her vanlife channel is Jonnie's Journey. She is in Missouri, and retired from being a travel nurse to become a van builder. Though most of her builds are for people with big ProMasters, I don't think she's opposed to smaller vans. I've been online friends with her since her days as a nurse, and met her in person when she did a van build in my area. She is a hoot in person, seems to actually pay attention to what someone wants, does good work, and clearly is not out to rip anyone off. 4. Overhead light switched by rear hatch. For starters, just pull out the bulbs and check whether they're LED or incandescent. If not LED, get a cheap LED conversion kit for all lights in the van. While doing that, see if you can get at the wires going to the bulb holder, and just splice a manual switch into the + wire. With the switch on, it will work automatically like now. WIth it off, it's off.

First, Congrats on your new Van. I’ve only watched one of your videos before, but I don’t think you were in TX then. When watching this video now, I immediately recognized where you were driving when you were behind that «Elmers» car. I used to drive there 11 years ago, and it brought back so many memories… And then you were in Gruene, New Braunfels and I think maybe also Cavenders, where I got my one pair of Cowboy boots back then. Seeing the blue bonnets and all of this now made me quite emotional, here up in Norway (Scandinavia). I spent quite some time there in that area, around San Antonio, when I had an American boyfriend. And I loved the truck I was driving when I was there! Just a «hello» to you, from someone far away up in Norway. 😅

Remove your passenger seat and make a dummy storage pouch in the shape of a seat. this way you can move the faux seat around for more living space but also keep it appearance in place when stealth camping. For the light, remove a fuse or that bulb.... could hack in a manual switch also.

Research if the knob can be replaced with a lever. Not sure if this will be cost effective. But since it is your home, maybe consider it an investment and you get it what you want. Surely someone can change the crank system to a lever system for you, hopefully for a good price

You can remove the fuses for the airbags. Mechanics do that when they are working around airbags so they don’t deploy accidentally

To turn off those annoying overhead lights, look for some kind of dial thingie near your headlight switch. On my minivan there's a dial I can turn up or down to dim and turn off those lights. Well done, so happy for you and enjoy your new wheels.

Congratulations on the new Van/Suv. Gas ⛽️ out here in california is now $6.40 cents a gallon which is absolutely ridiculous. So Jealous of Texas ⛽️ prices. I think you could probably just remove the fuses for the lights to disable them and if you ever need them again just put the fuse back it. ❤️

Hey girl there should be a light button in the front it should have three options. To turn the lights in for a moment, to have them turn in whenever opening the car doors, or to turn it off so the lights don’t come at at all when the doors open. My car has a switch like that and I keep it off. Like in your ceiling in the cab of the car
