I have parts on up to a fully built setup for that truck. From the looks of it, now is the time to tear down to underneath the blower and check to see if it has a turkey pan mod or it’s time to perform it yourself. Clean everything and get catch cans afterwards to keep your work. These trucks like to detonate. Pull plugs and run tr6 ngk gapped .32. Check for Healy coil work in the past and get you some 8thread cylinder heads if you can afford it. I have a set if in need…
@cjcox14803 жыл бұрын
Send your blower to joker too for a refurbishment. EGR delete and metco quick change hub with your choice of lower. No bigger than +6, stock boost is 8, don’t mess with the lower and tune accordingly. Shackles for the rear are cheap if you wanna level the truck. Get you a 4wd tranny pan and these trucks like a good valve body. Remember the connecting rods aren’t forged and are the weak point.

The intake manifold on these engines are prone to cracking. I have a 2002 F150 with the 5.4 V8. Late last year I had the intake manifold replaced in my truck. It cracked and was spewing coolant. And that problem is across the board with all Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles with the plastic intake manifolds. It also happens to GM vehicles that have plastic intakes but not as often. That's also an issue with anyone buying a P71 police interceptor Crown Vic. A higher up at my local Ford dealership said it was a very common problem. The 2002 Lightning 5.4 engine had a camshaft in each cylinder head as did the 4.6 V8, which is SOHC, and they were 2V. Up to and including the 2002 model year, the heads had 3 threads for the spark plugs and would occasionally spit them out if they were not installed correctly. There is a Ford TSB on this issue. starting with the 2003 model year, the heads were changed to have more threads and the problem was solved. The 2V 5.4 is a very good engine along with the 2V 4.6 engine. Those engines just need things done to factory specs like installing spark plugs. And NEVER use any aftermarket spark plugs in these engines. Always use Motorcraft plugs. Take my word for it for having a 2002 F150 since it was new. The more recent 3V heads had their fair share of problems, but that's another story. That POS K&N air filter has got to go and replaced with a factory OEM air box and factory OEM air filter. Use a factory MAF sensor too. The factory box draws in cooler air that is not from the engine compartment. Trash that radiator cap made in India and get a factory cap. Use care and common sense when changing pulleys to avoid an overboost condition. Engine damage could result. Just my experiences from having an F150 with the 5.4 V8 for all these years, and I still have it to this day. Just bear in mind that at times factory parts are better than aftermarket parts, and this is one engine that proves that theory.

Have had MANY trucks in my life (required by law in Texas...lol). Current truck fleet: '88 Ford Ranger, '01 Dodge 1500 4x4 (480,000 miles!), '09 GMC 1500 4x4, '20 Ford F-250 4x4 with the 7.3 gas engine (my tow/haul rig). Always wanted a 2nd gen Lighting or/and SRT-10 Ram.....

Crank pulley looks stock. Muffler was replaced with looks like a FM 40 series. As far as the the rear bumper, get a hideaway hitch. Lets you put a reese hitch behind the license plate. It flips up when you want to tow. Love the truck and love the channel. God bless brother.

You need some awesome LSC themed/deisgned sound proofing around that shop to help with the background echo!

This is friggin awesome. So excited to follow your work on this truck. I'd much rather watch videos about cars like this than Ferraris and Lambos that I'll never be able to afford.

It’s not Riptide Blue but it’s still pretty awesome. Wonder if I can get my new Lightning in that color? 😆

My car is also spewing coolant, from overflow. Has been since I got it. It didn’t detect any exhaust leaks with the combustion tester. Did a compression test and leak down test and cyl 3 has low compression and 48 percent leak. Time to retest cyl 3 and see if air sips out of it.

The tool under the hood is for the spare tire. And yes the muffler is replaced. The original is way bigger. I rode in many brand new. I have a obsessive feeling towards the lighting. And also look over the water pump it might look good but they usually cause issues.

Before I get to far it should be noted that an external combustion leak (exhaust pushing into the coolant passages) in a head gasket does not hurt engine performance. You wont see steam in the exhaust because coolant is not in the cylinders. Bubbles in the coolant reservoir and overflow are telltale signs of this condition. How do I know? Subarus..... Got to the end. Glad its just a cap. Nice truck Alex

Alex, love your channel and the content. The V12 Merc redo is one of a kind content. Nobody has the cohones to take it on other than you, so you have an interesting niche. On pickup trucks, Dodge did a series of stepside “Lil Red Express” trucks, complete with a 360/4 barrel/chrome dual stacks and minimal emissions restrictions due to a loop hole in the rules of the 70’s, which is the predecessor of the Ram SRT10 and now the TRX. Car & Driver also determined it was the fastest vehicle sold in America circa 1979. Which shows how anemic cars had become while they were learning emissions at the time. So, keep on doing. And it’s lb. ft, not ft. lb when talking’ torque.
