So happy there are many new subscribers here! Appreciate the support and want to introduce myself. A background about me, I’m an over 1000 hour CFI as well as an Instrument Rated Commercial Pilot ASEL/MEL and Ferry Pilot for Premier Aircraft Sales. I have over 500 hours in high performance aircraft, and absolutely love learning anything in aviation. My next goal is my Seaplane Rating, as well as work on my AMP so I may understand my aircraft to a higher level, as well as work on it! Please keep comments kind, and remember not to judge a book by its cover. After Post Notes Yes this is a McCauley Prop, not Hartzell! The IO520 produces 285HP (not 280) Still getting the hang of making these videos, so appreciate the understanding all 😊

As a long time admirer and pilot of Beechcraft products and a Bonanza owner- Welcome to the family!!! You have so many wonderful resources such as the American Bonanza Society, ABS Air Safety Foundation, and the wonderful folks at the Beechcraft Heritage Museum to support your exciting ownership of "Debbie"! The "Beech Party" fly-in at KTHA is held at the museum every October and is a wonderful get-together for all Beechcraft owners (and a chance to see everything that Beechcraft ever built)...would love to see you there! And, of course there are the great social activities and training/seminars of ABS. Safe travels!

I used to maintain one of these for a flight school. I will tell you that they are extremely well built and over-engineered. A couple of things to watch out for are: 1) leaky fuel bladders, 2) the factory elevators were made of magnesium and are prone to severe corrosion (aluminum replacements are available).

Debi is gorgeous! Beechcraft designed some timeless airframes and this is one of them. She’s definitely ready for a new panel and (I’m freely spending your money here) possibly the IO550 STC. Read everything you can from Mike Busch…he’s the real deal. I built N36LV, which cruised at 200 kts true. From Mike’s teachings, I was safely able to burn either 18 gph ROP using fuel as an expensive coolant or give up 5 kts and burn 13 gph using extra free air as a coolant LOP. Best of luck….she’s special!

Congratulations! Debbie is a beautiful girl, just like her owner! Please train, train, train. Get to know your autopilot like your best friend. Find the owners manual online and read cover to cover, then read it again. Those old autopilots can get you into real trouble if you do not understand them and their squawks. The Debonair is a great plane, but they are complex aircraft. Please be sure you know how to handle her well, and she will take great care of you in return. A beautiful woman flying a beautiful aircraft. It doesn’t get much better than that. I grew up at a Department of Transport aka DOT airport back when there were housing complexes for the people who worked for the DOT so I got to have an up close look at a lot of different aircraft and these Beechcraft were one of my favourites just for how they looked. This one is in gorgeous condition and with a few upgrades to the avionics this woman is going to have herself a wonderful aircraft. Safety first is never so important as it is with aviation as you often don’t get to just walk away from your mistakes. Hopefully she makes it a priority over anything that is just cosmetic in her flying future.. I only wish that I would have pursued my private pilots license when I was younger but I had other priorities back then and now I’m just going to have to be content with a flight simulator. I see so many people who are truly enjoying their foray into aviation and it sure does look like it would be a lot of fun not to mention a wonderful way to see the world.

My father had a Debonair back in 1964. I soloed in it, one of the most stable and great performance aircraft's I've flown. This one had a 225HP but it had enough power. This was in Puerto Rico, sea level. You are right, your 285 HP will got down to 200 HP with altitude but, it's enough to fly in your area, just don't go higher, stay there or lower. You can loose more HP as you go up.

Congratulations. Great plane. Many upgrades over the B35 I flew many years ago it had upgraded radios and was IFR rated but before GPS was out. Fuel management was most important to get down. Pressurized carburetor puts fuel back into the left tank (pumps more than it burns). I used left tank, Right tank, aux tank and then land on fullest main tank usually left. Your POH may be different. 66’ was the year I graduated HS 😂. Blue skies and tail winds coming your way

That's a beautiful airplane, and I'm not even much of a plane guy. She's got a great mid-60's classic look to her, like a mid-60's Corvette or Ferrari. I love that she carries 4 people too. Classic planes are like classic sailboats..... Beautiful lines, real character. With old boats we say "she's got great bones" meaning she might be a little scruffy to look at but the guts of the boat are solid, and she's 100% worthy of a refit. It looks terrific and can't imagine how happy and proud you must be! I'm a new subscriber and your video hit my feed tonight because I am a plane and flight enthusiast. I missed my window for becoming a pilot and that is most definitely a regret but at least I can fly with Microsoft flight sim so I almost know what it must be like to pilot such an aircraft. Anyway, just wanted to drop a quick note to say WOW and Congrats on such an achievement! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the interior. Good luck and best wishes for many happy hours of flight time in your new love! :)😄

You sound very much like me in that I too am an aircraft and aviation enthusiast that unfortunately waited too long to get my private pilots license and am now considering buying a simulator so that I can at least safely emulate what real pilots experience in the cockpit of the aircraft they fly. This Beechcraft is a beautiful aircraft and appears to be in very nice condition considering how old it is. If I were to become a private pilot this is the type of plane that I would love to fly. Retractable landing gear and with a three blade propeller are really nice to have. I didn’t know that a three blade prop would be quieter in the cockpit as I had just assumed that it was for better performance. Good luck with your simulator flying. It’s better than nothing and from watching KZbin videos there are simulators on the market that are very good at being very realistic if one is willing to spend the money. I am going to probably start out with something that is entry level like one Microsoft makes and if I find it to be enjoyable gradually work my way up to more sophisticated systems over time.

I know very little about the Debonair. I am from Truckee just over the hill and fly a Cessna 310R. I used to own a Cessna 182 and moved up to a 310R in 2005. My wife would never fly with me in the 182 so I moved up to the 310 for that reason. I have landed in Minden countless times and even took lessons when I was getting my Multi. I flew a Seminole in Minden with an older female instructor and an older French guy. however I cannot remember their names. The older female instructor was really good. Learned a lot from her. Did a lot of single engine work in that seminole. Loved your video and your airplane looks like it will give you many years of great flying and great memories. I am glad to see you flying and proud of your accomplishments. Keep flying, keep learning. Read Ernie Gann’s book, “Fate is the Hunter”. Much wisdom there. Glad you are a CFI too as I was. Teaching makes us better pilots if we dedicate ourselves to the task. One final thing a former Eastern Airlines pilot and CFI I trained with and flew with said once to me. It’s not a she or he. It’s not a pet or even a friend. It’s a plane and only works well when you respect it and the laws of physics. It’s always ready to kill you if you forget any of that. When I retired I was flying a Cessna Golden Eagle 421B, a very complicated but wonderful performing airplane. My last work was for a coal and trucking company. Keep your plane and you in great shape especially your skills. Do this and and you will have many years of enjoyable flight. I will sub to see your adventures.

Hayley, Real nice Debbie, nice Paint and interior didn't say engine and airframe time other than 30 year old engine which if on a 135 would have to be replaced. I think it has a 17 year life limit as a Part 135 engine but no effect flying part 91. My 1975 V35B has the original King Kx170/175B radios, KMA-20 audio panel with a GS and LOC. They work great. It also has the original six pack, no HSI. I do have a JPI 830 which is fantastic but you have EI EGT and CHT with individual readouts also work OK. I also have a GTX345 xpdr. My prior Baron 58TC had Collins 251/351 and were bullet proof for my 15 years or ownership. Only thing I would change is the yokes for new Ram horn yokes (call Cynget). If it can shoot an ILS well leave it alone for a while. My suggestion would be to get a GNX375 with an in/out ADS-b, unless you have an in/out xpdr already, then a GNS355 would be better with maybe a used KX-155 with a GS, a new/used audio panel like a PS 8000B or similar with intercom. I fly with an iPad mini and iFly. It's fantastic. Now a couple things you said, first, that Debbie might do 180 kts TAS with an io-550, but at a flight weight of 3,000# 172 kts might be more real firewalled at 7,500 feet. An io-520 has 285 hp plus or minus 2.5%. I have a fast V35B with LyCon io-520 (not ported or polished). At 11,500' at 59%, 20 inches (full throttle)X2,400 rpm, 12.5 gph indicates 148 kts, or a true of 176kts with an oat of 34f. My flight weight was about 3,000#. A third tail surface cost usually 3-4 kts. Another rule of thumb is that every extra 100# costs about a knot. So carrying an extra 200# will cost you 2 kts. Again it is a very Pretty Debbie with nice interior. My V-Tail has the original 49 year old interior, but they still look pretty good. I only have 3300 hrs TT.

Nice approach.. my first plane was a twin Aerostar by Ted Smith. I think it was more than 50 years old. I was not a pilot I did learn but got too busy. HJI was call sign, flew all over Australia.

sweet, panel is dated but all components are of the highest quality for the day and still should be very useable. Congrats most excellent aircraft and long-range tanks are fantastic.
