fun fact about the letterpress drawers: the top drawer would have the capital letters, and the bottom would have the small letters, which is why we now use the words "uppercase" and "lowercase" for letters ☺

Loved learning that spats are actually "spatterdashes" !! 😄 The reason most antique clothing doesn't fit is because it didn't fit anyone back when it was new, so no one wore it, so it lasted a long time, unloved and unused, and ended up in an antique store for modern day peoples to surmise "how tiny eveyone was in the past!"

Reminder! Serotonin is not the 'happy' chemical, it is the chill out chemical. Dopamine is the 'happy' chemical. Serotonin helps you calm down. If you are sad or upset all the time, it makes that emotion smaller, which is why SSRIs are a thing for depression and anxiety. And also why they don't work for everyone. Sometimes it is the lack of 'happy' that's the problem, not the presence of 'sad'. Super happy doesn’t balance super sad... it just means you spend more time at an extreme of emotion.

I really appreciate this explanation. I have always wondered why SSRIs and SNRIs work for some people and not others, and this is such a solid common sense explanation that now I have a chance at remembering it. Thank you! Now it makes total sense why my SNRI works for me-my depressed feels are due to brain inflammation, which in my case will generate extra feels like depression and anxiety, but it doesn’t impact my regular happy feels.

I'll have to look more into this, as I am a little confused😅 Meds NEVER worked for me. No matter what I tried, I never felt the slightest difference. Lol, sometimes I (jokingly) thought they gave me placebo 😂 I think I might have some strange lack of sensitivity to these drugs, otherwise I can't understand why I felt absolutely nothing, especially when for some people, they didn't just provide an improvement, but were life-changing.

Suddenly I am six years old, sitting on the scratchy yellowish carpet of my parents' living room which smells like dust and pipe tobacco, meticulously folding the little tabs over her delicate shoulders. I’ve been buying and selling antiques for lots of years now and can tell you that haggling is expected. The price is set in such a way that the seller expects you the buyer will offer half of that. Then a common thing for seller to come back and say is - I’ll meet you in the middle. So for example, if the seller prices something at $60 you, the buyer would then offer $30 and the seller would meet you in the middle at $45. The seller is actually getting the price they wanted and feel is fair and the buyer feels like they’re getting a deal. Everyone walks away happy 😊

@elenachristian9860 Think of it this way, you're complimenting the seller by wanting the item so much that you're willing to try to get it even if it's out of your price range. Maybe they want the personal interaction, and you're going to be generous and give them that interaction. 😉 Sometimes reframing an experience can reshape your emotional response. It took me years to get over public speaking until I realized that, in real life, if I spoke to a group of people, it's because they wanted to hear what I was saying. No one was holding them hostage to listen. My anxiety quickly dissipated after that epiphany. Anxiety sucks.

I only mind when people repurpose hard to find first editions of popular books. Especially to make proposal boxes. Is it very sweet and adorable and a keepsake? Yes. Does it hurt my soul a little? Also yes. 😅 I had such trouble finding the first editions of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings because lots of people (especially on Etsy) bought them up to turn into proposal boxes or little book boxes, whereas I really do want those to read and collect/preserve. But the older books with pretty covers that no one is reading? I agree with the librarians when it comes to those! It’s nice to see them getting a new life.

Oh I believe the incredible things you can find thrifting. I work at a very large thrift store and so many cool doodads show up. Just today we had two antique irons come through processing. Last week there was an antique chamberpot. It's a very fascinating job to have. I love those wooden spools.

I had those paper dolls as a kid! There was a whole fairytale and historical range of them, each more beautiful than the last. Thanks for the memories of those dolls!

I used to work at a national historic site (where you dress up in costume and stuff) and the wooden tray is actually for storing silverware/cutlery!

My diningroom table is like that table you bought, but bigger and not carved. My dad made it for my maternal grandmother to fit into her skinny apartment dinigroom. The removable wood pins that secure the top are loose and fall out, but I love it and store craftsy stuff in it. He made it in the 90s.

You can probably add a panel to the spats to make them fit. As for the record player holder? One word - Victrola. I always wanted one. Don't care if it works. it looks amazing. Some of the antique stores in my area had several, and not for a lot of money, esp. if they didn't work. Thank YOU Rachel Houdini!

I don’t know if I’m in the minority here but I love these episodes. OK granted I am an OCD perfectionist so as much as I love your channel I cringe a bit at your devil. May care attitude about detailing when sewing projects are happening, but I absolutely love these kind of episodes. This is what brought me to your channel originally all those years ago and they bring me so much joy so don’t put so much pressure on yourself too, create projects you’re already creating videos❤
