I bought the CHEAPEST 8.1L 2500hd on marketplace!

what's up, in todays video we're working on getting my new 2001 Silverado 2500hd refreshed and ready to be my next drift tow rig setup! It has the 8.1L Vortec paired with the Allison transmission. Me and Edgar get all the basic maintenance like oil pan gasket, transmission service, belt and tensioner, water pump, oil cooler lines, etc done on this truck so it's ready to drive anywhere whenever.

Best decision you can make with the 8.1 is to bore it to a 502 that’s what I did and a tuner for fuel economy definitely hit up O Reillys they will also have parts for the 8.1

You can go to the junkyard and find a dash for like $30 the whole top piece can be taken off it’s super easy but the tabs at the front are fragile so be careful but you can replace it

The radiator is still good. There’s a O-ring that goes inside that fitting for the oil coolers change the O-ring and then push the line in and it won’t leak no more.

That’s the exact same that happened on mine. I bought the fitting so I could use the O-Ring from it. They aren’t regular O-Rings as I found out the hard way.

I’m dying to get those ford wheels for my truck. 8.1 vortec is known for the intake manifold bolts loosening which causes excessive oil consumption. So torque the intake manifold bolts in sequence. The truck looks great with tow mirrors and the new wheels and tires.

I sold the alcoas for like $300 I didn’t know they were ford wheels lol good to know ! I’ll keep an eye on my oil everything’s been good since then, thanks for the input bro !

For the shifter linkage, you could drill and tap and the locknut or locktight

@@Rxstro No problem, I had to do that on the bottom side by the transmission, and it worked well. I have done it to a few vehicles. And, your truck turned out nice! I have and '01 Extended Cab long box dually that I'm fixing up with a 8.1L! Towing with my 8.1L is awesome, but it gets about 6-7 MPG, but that is with towing about 8000lbs.

Nice job on the 2500hd. I've got a 2001 gmc 8.1/Allison with the 4.10 gear. The gas mileage isn't good but it will pull anything you put behind it.

I swear I tried that exact Dorman part number, I will order another one to see since I need gaskets to change the bottom fitting next oil change either way, will post my findings lol I even went to the dealer and got my exact part with the vin and it still didn’t fit the threads only the quick connect side, I tried 3 different part numbers shipped to me and all fit the threads but none fit the connector … I’ll try that part number again I cut my old oil fitting line to keep it in my sock drawer to try and eventually find the fitting one day lol

Late to the party. Those are hydraulic roller rockers. You don’t set lash, you torque them down to spec and oil pressure will keep them in line. Tip: Don’t even look at the gas gauge. You will be mad everytime haha.

​@Rxstro A little bit of side to side play in the rockers should be okay, but if it has vertical play, then that's when you check your pushrods and lifters since these engine are zero lash.

I’m running 305/70/16 ! I barely clear so I don’t think they’ll fit on a 1500 unless you raise it atleast 2-3 inches, the 2500hd came with a 2 inch lift from factory to clear the Allison transmission, hope this info helps!
