You are so fortunate in the US to have such a large supply of used motorcycles at crazy knock down prices. You would never find these sort of bikes in the UK at those prices. That's why there are companies shipping container loads of them over from the US to UK and selling them here for about 6 times what they paid for them. Your $400 GPz would be on the market here for £1500-1800 ($2000-2500) as a non-running project. Good luck with the GPz, it's a great '80s muscle bike!

"His and Hers" GPz's.... I like it. Fix up the silver one, sell it, and get a red '84 or '85 GPz 550 for Keri. (Same body work as the 1100.) Keep that GPz content coming. 👍

Nice find! Starter button didn't work because there's a safety switch on the clutch lever, and you didn't pull the clutch lever. Also, it might be tough to adjust the valve lash, since that engine uses shims, which are tough to come by these days. Also, the shims are located underneath the buckets, which means you must remove the camshafts to exchange shims in order to adjust valve lash.

There's a movie quote that applies here: "There is no cause that is lost as long as there is but one fool left to fight for it!" I've restored a lot of old CB radios, and the current project is a Drake TR-4C transceiver.
@iainlynch2909 Жыл бұрын
That looks like a great project. The fuel injection should save a lot of hassle that old carbs normally bring which is a bonus. I've worked on so many split diaphrams in GPz/GT/Z carbs over the years it isn't funny. It is a shame so many old GPz tanks rot out like this, but at least you have a good route to repair it. If you have not already done it I would cut out the sidestand sensor switch as they were a very common failure point which prevent the start button from working. I'm looking forward to seeing more on this project - good work!

I'm curious as to where you source parts for these old beauties? I'm always looking for parts to add to the inventory if and when things fail. They are getting more and more difficult to find. These things were absolute death traps when they came out , so imagine what it’s like now .. check out the handle-bar cap that holds the swing-arm secured on the right hand side , loading the clutch on & off like you’re starting to do a burnout flex’s it in & out .. high speed handling was atrocious
@motorcyclerewind Жыл бұрын
Dang I wish someone would have told me before I rode one 3,000 miles.
@queenslander954 Жыл бұрын
Yea mate I wouldn’t worry too much , it was mainly the long fast 180 klm sweepers that you would get the flex , so blokes used to ride the back brakes to keep the swing-arms tensioned , so unless you’re absolutely giving it the berries you will never really see it , and we used to replace those 8mm Kawasaki Allen’s bolts in that cap with air-craft quality high tensile ones so you could torque them right up , and the motors are the typical bulletproof Kawasaki units. there’s always a fix for things,
