Swap to 3 cyl diesel, upgrade the suspension enough, use a winch with an arm to make a mini crane, and use it as your tow truck.

I've been watching lots of your videos. It's brought back memories of a mini bike and a go kart that I cobbled together in summer school shop classes. I'm 62 and those shop classes were so long ago. You have me thinking about getting a welder and plasma cutter and a tubing bender and giving it another go round. This time money won't be as much of a problem as it was when I was in high school. Thanks for the inspiration.

I am glad to have seen this video. The undercarriage shots showing just how small the driveline components actually are, and how slow they are. I would think building an S-10 or Ranger or any old Toyota or Nissan pickup from the same year, would result in a much better truck for less money when it's fully roadworthy, which , these are far short of roadworthy and on any highways, you are a slow moving vehicle like a tractor with a line of cars behind. Thanks again. I can cross these things off my list now for sure.

A local car dealership had kei trucks as parts delivery vehicles, they were fitted with bullbars. The drivers would clamp off the rear brake line and brake heavily in order to try to get them to roll forwards and stand momentarily on the bullbar before falling back (hopefully) onto it's wheels.

@CarsandCameras On my neighbor's almost identical kei truck the governor is controlled by the electric pickup on the speedometer drive unit on the transmission. Unplugging the electrical sensor while leaving the cable in place kept the speedometer operational but defeated the governor. GPS read 63mph and still accelerating before vibrations and instability (and a 40mph speed limit) required letting off.

this is the first left hand drive kei truck i've ever seen. i've got a mitsubishi mighty max truck. it's basically a dodge d50. these kei trucks are pretty good at what they were designed for. in japan they are the standard pick up truck. they're more useful and cheaper than a side by side. some of them have dump beds, are 4x4 and have ac. most parts are available online, and they are fairly simple. i'd say you got a hell of a deal with a twofer 2k.

These trucks make great onsite mobile tool trucks. Greensboro, NC uses a small fleet of these style trucks for their work at TZO WWTP. Some have vinyl bed covers, most have multi drawer tool boxes, a couple even have welders, torches, chemical pumps, etc. They are way more efficient driving around site up close to the various equipment that needs work, than a full size street truck. Putting a small diesel driveline out of a Kabota RTV, or tractor, with a winch out front, and a rig up a mini tow rig hook out back, would make this a beast. Adding some old school Toyota SR5 leaf spring suspension, hubs and 31" tires, could make this a 1/2 ton rig for non stop track use fun.

Best thing to do with a mini truck? Collab with Motocheez! He's been my go-to mini truck content creator for years now. Although that might be difficult since he is always behind the camera.... Aside from that, seeing an old mini truck cared for and adopted as a regular rig is really wholesome and enjoyable. I'd like to see the process in how y'all get the Kei Truck through NCDMV's regs for a registered street-legal vehicle. I have a Kei Van called a Tiger Truck. I bought it not knowing it wasn't street legal. I was kind of stuck with what to do next. Now, since you told us NCDMV has a process to get these things street legal, I'd love to see what it takes. Also, can't you go both routes for a street-legal 4x4 work rig? Who says it has to be one or the other. Love the channels. Keep up the good work!

I know NC has to have inspections every year, would you need to have this inspected every year? lift the front a little, widen, need some bigger tires, minimum 750cc engine, roll cage, Replace the bed with one a bit wider like John Deere Gators, and finally a CnC wrap.

Congratz with the "new" recovery vehicle. 😉 Give it a long snout so there will be room for a inline 4. Dual rear axle and make it a 6x6. Exhaustpipes up I the air like a truck. Make it look like a mini Mack truck...

We had those POS light trucks in the Marines in Beaufort S.C., we used em to run airplane parts up and down the flightline to and from supply. You can trick the governor if you reach top speed, then put it in first and do NOT let off the clutch all the way, just a bit to make the computer think you're in first. Then you get another 20 mph. Don't go past that, you'll blow the engine.

Bull bars and rally lights. I love the plan for genny and welder, toolboxes and stuff. I'd go lift/big tyres over slam/widen. If it's possible to get it road legal, the out-there plan would be a micro RV for your next road trip: shell on the back, camp bed, water tanks and butane stove, and perhaps a tent for Ike to sleep on a beach the way he seems to like doing. Also I guess it needs to have a tug o' war with whatever you have that will compete - maybe the Yerf dog?

My friend had the van version of this and on the odd Friday he would ship 8 of us to the pub in it. Getting there was a hoot but getting back after 8 pints could be a bit touch and go!

We got on of these things at the golf course i work at. The only differences is there is no lift and the cab was chopped off. These things are quick for what they are.

Nice! Its a shame you didn't find a 4wd but this thing is still rad. I'd keep it off-road capable but maybe swap out the powerplant for something a little more substantial. Then do as you guys said and kit it out to be a mobile workshop. Build a separate trailer to haul your carts and use the loadbay of the truck for tools, spare parts, coolerbox, etc. Maybe get a little awning on the side so you can set it up as a shelter too haha.

try to put another diff on the front and see if you find a transfer case, then put a roll cage on it and maybe swap the engine out for a larger bore something like a 1.5l 4 cyl.

That is hilarious! And such a throwback! Down here in the Netherlands we had the full on enclosed van version of it, but it was called the Suzuki Carry. I always wanted one, if only because it just so much looks like an oversized toy truck, hee!

This might just be the most awesome thing to enter the it'll be fine workshop. You got to do a big turbo diesel swap on this one, with a high performance CVT setup.

My mate had one of these here in Western Australia years ago, you had not choice but to smile every time you got into it. How about a haybusa swap? Evil 😁 Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺

Shop truck generator, tool box, winch, auxiliary lighting, to light work area, welder, leave enough room for one or two mini bikes in the back and wrap it.
