When I was in high school a guy I know got his grandmother to buy him a new syclone. I saw him race a new Z28. He gave the Z28 a couple of car lengths and beat him by several more. I worked at the gas station and he would stop in. The interior was standard S10 but the ground effects totally changed the outside. It was just cool.

Probably been Hit. Hood out of alignment, as is the cladding there and in the passenger side a pillar where the fender meets the door it has what we call an "a gap" It's a smaller gap at the top then it gets bigger.

I had an Eldorado and Baritz, (misspelling?) pimped to the gills and back again with top options for their time. The burgundy Eldorado trim on the passenger side was off by almost 1/2” on the door from the body and the dark blue with stainless skirts and roof had half a box of sockets and the impact gun under the back seat. We couldn’t figure out why the center hump was so much higher then on the burgundy car until we pulled the seat and found all those tools from the factory. QC was certainly hit or miss back then so it’s entirely likely there was no accident especially when my “high-end” cars had a few. We couldn’t find a fitting for the impact gun so we re-plumbed it and it still worked. Kinda crappy, cheapo Harbour Freight modern gun is better.

In 1994 I was driving a POS Saturn sedan delivering wings. I was at a red light (second in line) and suddenly I heard this thunder, and there was smoke EVERYWHERE! I live real close to the former Buick engineer that still has his prototype truck he built for the typhoon project. Up until a few year back he still used his prototype he made as a shop truck . Its a gnx powered s15. The guy is still real into turbo Buicks and has guys bringing t types and gnx's from all over to have him work on them. I had my th400 for my 401 gremlin built by him. When I went to pick it up I got a look at all the 70's and 80's prototype turbo Buick goodies he had stashed around. The guy goes way back into Buick turbo days from the 70's. Fun stuff and quite a character.

I bought and owned #604 GMC Syclone, I had it for quite a while made many upgrades,such as ZR1 wheels from 90 "King of the Hill" corvette,much bigger turbo with NOS upgraded sterio, cladding painted n clesred black to match upper paint,custom purple Sy decals,neon, serious audio system!!it was the hottest ride back in the day in RI!!Ended up selling it to a gentleman in LasVegas in 2012.The comment u made of the Sy being faster than the Ty "because it was a pickup n it was lighter"is not actually correct! If you do the research,the Sy was only 200lbs lighter than the Ty!!!,so Dyno tests later on showed that it actually did have a lil more hp n torque due to some differences.Congrats on your piece of GMC history,The plate ""USA 1" Does rightfully belong on them. Sy was 0-60 in 4.1 sec.in the rain tested in early 91! 2994, Sy made in 91 1year n Ty very rare also but made for a few years .nice vid,brought back some serious memories of my younger years!my best friend had a white 93Ty we had alot of fun showing them off.

I had the same issue with my air. It turned out to just be the ground wire for the blower fan. The ground was under the hood on the passenger side near the fire wall. Hope that helps.

I would point out the mismatch between the right side of the bumper cover and the body cladding but having seen the exact same issue on a showroom new one... Aslo, having owned three S-10 trucks and a Blazer I can attest that the AC controls always break and so do the transmissions.

I pointed that out too, but this ain't a mismatch. The headlight is off, and the blinker is falling in. The hood isn't aligned on that side either. Definitely previous damage. Also curious that the passenger seat was reupholstered/replaced. Finally at the end of the video 11:19, you can see the rear passenger moulding is off too, but that could be age... looks like a bad accident overall though.

Nice very nice, quite a few collectors of typhoons out there. I've only remember seeing one, one time, ever so I know they're a bit rare. However the one I saw kind of pissed off collectors, just a little bit but really shouldn't have. The thing had caught fire inside and was a total loss. The owner rebuilt it, inside and out, however the motor was a total loss as well, I don't remember what all that had happened to it but it was horrible. Since he didn't have the original turbo engine and was having a hard time finding one, he stuffed in a 454 Big Block in place of it, was so awesome! Made purest pissed off, but he did saved a vehicle from the scrap yard. That 454 - 4 wheel drive, doing burnouts was so cool it just hovers in circles with smoke going in the air, as he showed me a video of it, it was quite amazing to watch even on video. So basically it wasn't a typhoon "real" anymore, it just had to ground effects, and he did replace the interior typhoon as well, as he was planning on returning it to original before he desided stuffed it with the big block. Like I said purest were pissed, but still so cool!

The AC broke in an early nineties GM vehicle? You don't say. My dad had a 91 Sonoma with the 4.3 and a 5 speed. It was a zippy truck without the turbo.

These 4.3 based vehicles are easily built up and made into great sleepers. You can add larger x-drilled brakes, change the intakes, add stiffer sway bars, polyurethane bushings, iridium plugs, K&N. But my favorite sneaky add in is the stage 2 transmission from Bow Tie Transmission in Hesperia California where you put the hammer down at stop lights leaving others in the dust. Or if you prefer give up 120 horsepower* and get a gen-1 4.3 type van where you can put in all the same upgrades, and get a place to put your dirt bikes and go camping in. Throw in custom exhaust and lower front Springs (Eibach) and you'll be railing those Mountain Roads. Thats how I roll, doncha know. AstroSafari.com has V-8 examples and turbo mod stories fyi. Actually the 160 horsepower rating of the 1988 Astro Safari 4.3 is before any add-ins or modifications. So you probably could get that turbo hp gap down to only 80 horsepower without too much trouble. Please build up your Typhoon, while maintaining the stock look. Maybe put a "Happiness is being a grandparent" license plate frame on your car...and Nitro in the back.

Yeah, the Grand National and Typhoon look like plane boring early 90's cars to the average Joe. The rest of us know better. I've never ridden in either vehicle, but I know they are awesome. They remind me of Ford's SHO.

@@commodoresixfour7478 The SHO w/Yamaha 6 DOHC from the 90s was a killer sleeper, even law enforcement picked up on that one, was good for 150mph out the box. Think they made a Fiesta called the shogun mid engine from that motor bein so powerful for the time...
