The Honda Civic Type R EP3 is one of the all-time great hot hatches and for good reason; with its K20 VTEC engine revving to 8000rpm, coupled to independent suspension and a strong chassis, it was always going to be a popular car to own and modify... Unfortunately I bought one of the loudest examples in the country, so let's set about 'un-pimping my ride'!

Make it nicer for the next owner? Don’t you mean make it harder for the new owner to make power? A 421 will be thrown straight back on it. People don’t buy these cars to make them ‘easier to live with’. If that’s your mindset, you’ve bought the wrong car

It’s personal preference. I want the car to be as it is and thinking about the sale in the future, it’s always easier to sell a car that’s more standard compared. If it had been up to me then I’d have gone back to OEM throughout, but with catalytic converters being nearly a grand and a factory exhaust not made anymore, I did as in this video. Being fully transparent, the exhaust I had was discounted via HKS, which financially made more sense for me rather than seeking something like a Fujitsubo Legalis R, which looks more similar to the OEM one.

you got an oem manifold and sports cat to replace a 4-2-1 for a track spec ep3? doesn’t make much sense in my eyes, that oem manifold is very restrictive - in terms of noise it doesn’t make a great deal of difference having a 4-2-1 over a cat of any kind, you would have still passed track noise regs with the 4-2-1 and the hks catback since it’s the resonator on the b pipe that makes all the difference, the b pipe you took off had no resonator, that’s what causes the raspiness in the tone of these cars. In terms of longevity you also replaced a stainless steel b pipe for a carbon steel, also

It's not going to be a track spec car, mostly for road use (despite Dad mentioning about it!). I'll do a couple of track days to make some videos, after which I'll sell it. The whole point is to make the car easier to live with for a future owner - it's also much easier for me to sell the 4-2-1 manifold and exhaust as a pair, considering they've been designed to fit together.

Anyone who knows about EP3s will be putting a 4-2-1 back on and a 2.5inch or even 3 inch system back on. The reason people buy standard EP3s are for the CAT. Once that’s gone , regardless of putting it back to ‘OEM’ with a sports cat it loses value.

@@THEgoulGAMER that’s fair enough regarding the power, but that OEM manifold connected directly to the exhaust with no cat. It’s likely it won’t pass its MOT like that due to the emissions, which is another reason for the sports cat. Again if whoever the new owner is wants to put a 4-2-1 manifold on it then that’s their choice.

@@TomBrooksMedia I own one and the first thing I did was get a 4-2-1😂 baring in mine also I have a friendly MOT tester. Also if you’re looking to keep it. Get some polybush engine mounts and polybush the front suspension.
