As a former F-Type R owner, I'm looking forward to the car being restored. The 3.0 engines are reliable. The issue is Jaguar's insane 15K mile service intervals, which have been chewing up and sludging these 3.0s and 5.0s up (they are internally identical, the V6 is LITERALLY the V8 with the two cylinders not bored out). Do an oil change every 5K miles, and you'll be fine once the replacement motor is in. If you do decide to go V8, it is unlikely you'll need an all new wiring harness. Talk to Velocity AP, they have extensive knowledge on these and should be able to provide the correct answer.

The 5.0 and 3.0 are different in the bore and stroke as well. I work for an independent JLR shop and we save these engines all day long from the horrors of the dealership. Dealer says engine and we save it for over half the cost and it’s not uncommon to see these engines go over 200k if you treat them right

Strange Because in the UK the engines in the F Type are fairly bulletproof. It’s the diesels that give issues with JLR vehicles in the UK. What were the common issues? Owner neglect related?

@@bigjml the engines are fine, most people have never owned one of these and I’m gonna call bs on all these guys claiming to have worked at a place that had one of these in all the time because I’d assume they are familiar with the gross 15k mile service intervals Jag set for the car. The engines (5.0 and 3l) are both great engines if you do proper maintenance. Even the 4cyl ones were fine if properly maintained.

Had a 2010 XKR and the hydraulic tensioner for the timing chain failed destroying the engine. There was a class action suit for this problem but it was for 2011 & up so I junked mine. A decade later and their engines still suck. I wouldn't trust anything from salvage, get it rebuilt with that company in Cali.

I think JR needs to rig up a harbor freight winch on his trailer, with an Anderson connector. Then get 12’-20’ of quality 1/0-2/0 gauge cable and a beefy lithium battery. Make a short lead with an Anderson connector on the battery, a short lead with the alligator clips, and Anderson connectors on both ends of the remaining cable. Then you can power the winch or jumpstart any vehicle with the lithium battery on the tailgate or something

TPU gets sticky, so what you want to do, is coat it in a mess of baby powder. Don't press babies in a press to make the powder, they sell it containers. The baby powder will bring the no stick feel back to normal as if new. It's a messy process as you work the powder into the TPU rubbery gum. I did this for a Ableton Push drum machine type of device that had the entire case sticky like your car's buttons when i bought it used. Now after treating it with the powder and wiping it down even using cuetips, its fine now. I just saved you a fortune.

I’d stick with the V6 SC it’s perfect for the street the V8 is fun but it’s almost to much power plus the V6 is super easy to work on I have not seen a F-type lose a motor yet at my dealership the only time I see any of the motors fail on Land Rover or the jags is from people running over the oil change and run them out of oil. Based off looking under the hood of your f type I see some newer updated parts which is good, little bit of time you’ll have a sweet car again look forward to following the build

Just changed a failed injector on my partners 3.0 S F type , the drivers side rear (in uk) injector was jammed wide open and gave all the impression of a blown engine pouring out smoke missing on 2 cylinders but I changed the 3 injectors on that side and the fuel rail and fuel pressure sensor as they come as an assembly, 10 mins lumpy idling while the injectors trimmed themselves, oil change and it's been as right as rain ever since , the injectors are Bosch but actually 95% plastic and made in Turkey that well known centre of precision engineering 🤣 Regards Richard

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
