The only thing I’ll admit, is that 55k-65k for a Tacoma is ridiculous. Future forward styling and some OEM mods that take away from the individual creativity of a rig is the least that could be offered. Congratulations on the beautiful truck @Talon! I just bought the new TRD pro Tacoma as well here in Hawaii where I will probably never get to use it to its fullest extent, but it is an amazing vehicle. I’ve owned probably 40 different Tacoma’s of all generations and Tundra’s . This truck is by far the most over the top truck I have ever owned and I love it! My 3rd gen V-6 TRD off-road 6-speed manual 4X4... Every fluid is just drain 'n fill, front & rear diff, transfer case, manual transmission easy to change. Already put amsoil within 5K. Badass TRD pro just way to much money for most ppl. Hopefully it will be reliable 4u! Keep us posted.

I love the redesign. Only thing I can't get over is the "afterthought" look of the screen. I personally dislike the the "we stuck a tablet on your dash" look that Toyota is going with in the Tundra, Tacoma and new 4runner. Much prefer the integrated screen design like the Land Cruiser and other vehicles like the Ford SuperDuty (which I ended up with to replace my 2013 Tundra as I needed more payload). I like the new Tacoma front end and exterior styling much better than the upcoming 4runner. And like the new Sequoia front end much better than the new Tundra front end. We are happy to have found a used 2020 4Runner TRD Pro with next to no miles and snapped that up. While the tech and drivability are not as good as the new gen Tundra, Tacoma and upcoming 4runner, the exterior styling we like better than the styling of the new models and the simple and proven drivetrain helped make the decision as we keep our vehicles for 10+ years. In 10 years when it's time to replace the 2020 4runner, a used Land Cruiser might be the one. We like the exterior and interior styling and features of the 1958 trim. By then, the drivetrains will be better sorted and long term dependability will be known.

If the truck market didnt skyrocket in 2020 to where it is now, this would be a $50k truck with all the bells and whistles. I say this because in 2019 my roommate got a 2020 Taco TRD Pro out the door (Price, taxes, fees, registration) for just under $50k and he had almost every option available. That being said, i really hope this platform is more reliable and better off-road in comparison as the previous gen has a lot of features but never outperformed the competition, while also having more issues while off-roading.

I was set on buying the new TRD PRO when it was first announced last year. The price for what you get compared to the new Ranger Raptor is significantly different. Not many people want a hybrid engine or even the underpowered 4cl in other models. I've found several Ford dealers willing to sell me a new Ranger Raptor. It's just a better truck. Never thought Toyota would ever sway me away from a Tacoma.

I'm old school. all those features makes me afraid of them breaking down. Prefer mostly manual controls if possible. I dont know the durability of stuff like the power bed door. Those gauges also scare me when things go wrong. Too many people think of when everything goes right, but ignore when you have those electronics baking in the sun after a few summers of 110+ degrees. Like that bluetooth speaker. Will be a pain when that battery needs replacement. I declined the extra finance guy stuff. They forced me to buy the ceramic coating that they already put on the truck.

I have agree with what has already been said, people aren't hating on the truck as much as the price. 70k is a lot to spend on a truck, let alone a midsize. The Raptor is 10k less and is still a lot of money. The ZR2 is 20k less! I'm really looking forward to a shootout, now that these are finally in peoples hands. You used to be able to count on a higher resale with a Toyota truck, but with the major engine failure and recalls the Tundra has been experiencing, Toyota's rep has taken a beating. The reliability, and thus the resale values are yet unknown on this new generation. If you couple that with the massive price, it's a hard sale for most.

I have run fox on most of my vehicles since I started building things and I am a firm believer in their products and testing. I also didn’t want the extra overlandy things that come with the trail hunter like the snorkel, the ARB rack and I’m also not a huge fan of the color. Pro suits my needs better for a fast nimble truck for camping.

Thank you for the review, one of the better ones. Many of the reviews are sells personals and are very biased and poorly done. I have had 3 Tacoma's, 2018 Pro (I like it a lot) for now and have been looking at maybe getting a 2025 Pro. Have also been looking at the GMC Colorado, not sure which model, but one of the upper end ones. Not happy with any of the high prices on the midsize trucks this year. So I went yesterday to test drive the TRD PRO, and after talking numbers, they wanted $77K out the door price. That’s including tax’s, fees, DMV registration etc… I thought that was ridiculous. I just left. As soon as I left they called me and said they can come down to $76K. I said no. I personally think I shouldn’t be paying more than 70K for this truck. It’s funny so many people complain about the switch from 6 to 4 cylinders and then the whole hybrid thing. But there is a reason these manufacturers move to on to these more modern hybrid options. I think we’re just stuck in this weird transition where insecure people are just scared to drive a half electric vehicle 😂. The truck is sick. I’d drive it any day over the previous models. I’ve never had anything more than 4 cylinders anyway.

Things and stuff jellyfish launcher!! Love it!! so many new trucks regularly in the 60, 70, 80, 90k+ range being immensely saturated with tech, computer systems and sensors, why do so many still come with a generic and non specific check engine/service engine soon light? Most, if not all, have a computer/ touch screen dash mounted tablet. If a code reader scanning/ diagnostic tool can be purchased for $100, why not build the high $ vehicles with that already installed? How hard would it be for your 25 USB port, 12" touch screen, heated seats, deaf spot monitoring, lane sleep assist, banana car play vehicle to just tell you: "4th cylinder not firing, exhaust leak, replace battery, alternator replacement needed, vacuum leak etc?" We demand all this tech as consumers yet the generic non specific check engine light is something we're all still good with? We complain about mechanics and service departments ripping us off and playing the pin the tail on the donkey "let's see if this is the problem" game. How nice would it be to go to a mechanic and say, this is the problem I'm having and what needs to be fixed. How much is it to fix what I already know is the problem? Less downtime with the vehicle in the shop and less money spent on milking us repairs that aren't actually the problem. Ok, deep breath, I feel better now. Thanks for sharing Senor Talon. Always appreciate what you have to share.

I’ve been watching lots of Tacoma videos to learn more about the probable trim levels and power trains on the upcoming 4Runner, which I’ll probably pick up sometime in 2025. The $10K CAD difference from TRD off-road to TRD Pro is too steep for me, so I’m looking at the TRD off road with the IForce Max engine. I believe the TRD off road will be the only trim level available with either engine.

I saw my first new taco out in the wild yesterday. Would have figured I'd see way more of them by now. There are tons of the previous gen ones all around.

It’s a great looking truck with a lot of great features. I agree it’s a lot of money for a small truck but I guess it depends on your use case as to whether there’s value.

Im a Yota guy, but I compared this with the Ranger Raptor and its $10k more expensive, 4cyl, no leg room. Bang for your buck, the Raptor is a lot better unfortunately.
